Re: Official MLB 20 the Show Trade Discussion Thread

Thinking of trying to grab Wellington Castillo from Washington. I know he’s a nob-roster invite so would a lottery pick be enough to snag him. I could also give them a player back of a position of need.

I could use a right handed bat / 3rd catcher on my roster. What do the Nats require?

Why would the Astros ever give up a real prospect for Jacob Stallings? If you want an A prospect back from the Astros you need to give them something that actually has value. If they wanted to trade away one of their better prospects they could get a catcher like James McCann, maybe Willson Contreras if the Cubs sell, etc. Stallings has very minimal value. If you're adamant about getting one of their better prospects all the Astros really have to trade that could command that would be Bell, Musgrove or Reynolds and I imagine you aren't interested in moving those guys.

I hate to do this again, but why would the Angels do this trade? I think you could send them Archer, but Polanco is coming off an injury and had a negative WAR last year. One of his biggest selling points was his team control, but all that team control doesn't help the Angels who have Trout, Upton and Adell and Marsh on the way.

You should leave out Polanco but you could do something like Archer for Renfigo and Jones.

30-team control franchise, so no horse in the race here just looking for a fair deal.

Spring Training 2020, the ever-thrifty Rays are shopping Mike Zunino and looking to shed his $4.5 M contract while remaining competitive.
LA Dodgers are interested, as Zunino fits as a 1-year rental until Keibert Ruiz makes it to the show.

Dodgers are rolling with Will Smith behind the dish but Zunino’s near-elite defensive skill set makes him a prime backup. He strikes out a ton but has some pop and can step in to start if Smith starts to struggle in his first full season. Dodgers are WS or bust this year which goes without saying.

LA has Austin Barnes and Jose Lobaton both on the 40-man, both out of options. One of them goes back to Tampa to split time with Michael Perez who had a promising Spring.

How much more do the Dodgers need to give up to make this work?

Hey guys. Just looking for some feedback on some trades I stirred up in my 30 team control franchise as I am looking to make some deadline deals. Trying to keep it realistic but also using some logic as well.

            Trade #1
            Blue Jays recieve:

SP Hector Yan 20 years old B potential
SP Stiward Aquino 20 years old B potential

            Angels recieve:
            Ken Giles
            Tanner Roark

            Trade #2
            Cubs receive:
            Marcus Stroman

            Mets receive:
2B Chase Strumpf 21 years old B potential
LF Cole Roederer 20 years old B potential

            Trade #3
            White Sox receive:

I like the trades. All seem realistic with assuming all three are in playoffs contentions

So I popped this into the trade simulator and it tells me Austin Barnes alone is worth more than Zunino. Like, 10x more. I know Zunino is coming off a bad year but that gap is surprising. Zunino has multiple 20+ homer seasons, he has double the career WAR and is a year younger. Doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense.

Anyway, am I way off base with this trade? Would Zunino to LA just be a salary dump for the Rays?

It has to do with years of control. Zunino is a rental that isn't particularly special. Barnes also isn't special but he's cheap and has multiple years of team control.

Makes sense, though I would have to think as a catcher with plus power and above-average defensive tools, Zunino would be worth at least something? His $4.5 million contract is high for a backup catcher but certainly not outlandish for a big spender who is in an all-or-nothing playoff push. The trade simulator would make his return that of an average middle reliever. Plus, the Dodgers have 2 future stars behind the plate and 2 that are out of options and soon to be DFA’ed.

I’m probably overthinking what amounts to a minor trade but realism is important to me.

Re: Official MLB 20 the Show Trade Discussion Thread

Im looking to do a Heyward for Grichuk swap and possibly pick up a decent reliever for my troubles in taking on the rest of Heywards contract. Heyward is having a great season so far batting .300 with 15 HR's and Grichuk is struggling batting somewhere along .260 with only 10HR's. I dont have any further stats off the top of my head.

I like Wick as he is Canadian and may have the potential to fill in for Giles as future closer once I trade him or he walks. I do like Heywards arm and defence and the fact he hits left, fits nicely in my lineup.

                      Cubs Get:
                      Randal Grichuk

                      Blue Jays Get:
                      Jason Heyward
                      Rowan Wick

I conflicted as it feels light from the Jays side but I would be taking on the rest of Heywards terrible contract, which the Jays can afford. Help me out here.

I saw a proposed deal for each AL east team on a website I follow. It was the Blue Jays getting Lindor from Cleveland for Biggio, Groshans, Zeuch and Kirk. Does this do it value wise?

                        Thanks

Base it off of the Zack Cozart trade to get ideas.
I think the difference though is that Darvish is actually still good, just not as good as his contract suggests. I was thinking something along the lines of Darvish plus cash for Luis Cessa (could step into the rotation at a cheap cost) and a close to MLB prospect like Estevan Florial or Albert Abreu, someone that could end up in the majors next year.

Unless of course you think I can get Darvish AND Bryant, and then I'd be happy to unload some prospects in a heartbeat.
