Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

Urghh. i had to cancel the rockies franchise. my eyes can't pitch at coors field. the ball and the dirt are too close together in colour and it was giving me a headache - that much focus. better to can it now less than 10 games into the season.

so ... back to the Redsox. i do love this division, it's alotta fun.

I'm going to play every game of the season and i'm going to rebuild them but try and keep them competitive for at least a wildcard. ship devers off for hopefully a good young arm and a prospect and maybe some verteran infield help.

Made a couple of minor moves picking up reliever Carlos Hernandez from royals, and CF Jake McCarthy from the snakes.

      2024 Oakland Athletics 05/21-05/23

Overall Record:22-30 (5th AL West/11.5 behind Texas Rangers)

      Game Results

      Game 1
      Rockies-2
      Athletics-1

      Game 2
      Rockies-2
      Athletics-0

      Game 3
      Athletics-7
      Rockies-5

      A's dramatic walkoff avoids sweep

The A's offense continued to struggle in the first two games against Colorado. Between the first two games, Oakland managed just one run and seven hits as the Rockies took the games, 2-1 and 2-0.

Game three saw Oakland perform a bit better as they got five hits off of the starer, Peter Lambert. The A's also collected a run against Lambert, a 4th inning homerun by Brent Rooker.

Speaking of which, Rooker was the clutch player of the game as his 9th inning homerun tied the game at 3-3.

Things were looking grim after the Rockies scored twice in the 10th inning. However, Matt Chapman's three run HR in the bottom half of the inning walked the A's off as they avoided the sweep.

The A's will now remain in Oakland as they welcome the Astros to town. The AStros are currently 3rd in the division with a record of 28-22. The A's may be able to confident as they recently won a series against the same team, approximately a week ago.

It's not uncommon for my month of April to be starting and restarting a few franchises before I actually settle in on one.

ahh i know. I was so keen for the rockies, and had to play like 7 games before their first home game. ah well. I'm a Bosox fan so the passion is here for this franchise, and the division is tough, which i love.

              Boston Red Sox 2024 Season

After a long (simulated) Spring Training The Bosox are ready to hit the road to open up the season. Major changes came through front office for the Bosox, where the idea was to free up cash, but also remain competitive. And if the opening 5 games are any indicator, we might be on track.

Offseason changes were plenty. With lots to look forward to and lots of cash free'd up.

3B Rafael Devers traded to Colorado Rockies for 3B Ryan McMahon and Kyle Freeland.

Closer Kenley Jansen traded to Kansas City for RHP Carlos Hernandez

2B Prospect Nick York traded to Arizona for speedy CF Jake McCarthy

25 year old C-rated Pitching prospect traded to Dodgers for Kike Hernandez.

Thinking we could get by with a platoon on SS using CF Cedanne Rafaela and Vaughn Grissom, after a long spring training of tinkering with the lineup the Bosox pulled the trigger on one final trade.

On the eve of the season opening in Seattle Boston moved Trevor Story to 3B and shipped him off to the Yankees for 25 year old righthander Oswaldo Cabrera. This was only the 9th ever trade between to the two bitter rivals.

                LHP J Rodriguez

                Closer
                Liam Hendriks

The Bosox took the series against Seattle 3-1, with a 2.45 BA and 1.99 ERA. All games were close grinding affairs with two going into extra innings. In what could be two potential teams fighting for the final wildcard spot, Boston's ability to get to the Seattle Bullpen proved to be the difference in the series.

Ryan McMahon has wasted no time fitting into his new club mashing 3HR and batting .393

Oswaldo Cabrera (batting .273) made several excellent defensive plays and looks to be forming a fantastic infield combo with veteran Kike Hernandez.

On a short turnaround Boston fronted up to Oakland for the twilight game and opening game of a 3-game series, and squeaked out a narrow 3-1 win. Scoreless through the first 7 innings, Boston once again got going and breached the Oakland bullpen when Ryan McMahon clubbed his 4th homerun of the new season after Oswaldo Cabrera was walked.

Tristan Casas added an insurance solo shot in the top of the 9th before Liam Hendriks closed the game out depsite getting into a jam allowing a hit and a walk. Hendriks leads the league with his 4th save on the season.

Game 2 in Oakland is at 6:40pm tomorrow with RHP Kutter Crawford taking on RHP Luis Medina.

Braves Put Together Impressive Sweep of the Twins On the Road

                  August 26-28, 2024

In a series of two of the league's best teams, the Atlanta Braves come out on top in a trip to Minnesota.

Atlanta's offense got off to a slow start in game one, as Pablo Lopez was outdueling Chris Sale as the Twins led 1-0 heading into the seventh inning before Sean Murphy picked up an RBI double to score Jarred Kelenic. In the eighth, the Braves scored three runs thanks to a Ronald Acuna solo homer and two-run shot from Marcell Ozuna. The Braves would build a 7-1 lead in the ninth after scoring three more runs thanks to RBI hits from Matt Olson and Ozzie Albies. Sale completed six innings, striking out eight and allowing one run while Aaron Bummer, Reynaldo Lopez, and Dylan Lee all help the Twins scoreless.

Game two again saw a late come from behind win, as a Jarred Kelenic two-run homer in the second inning was all of the Braves scoring through seven innings. Charlie Morton was good, allowing two runs across 6.1 innings before Tyler Matzek gave up a homer to Max Kepler. Down 3-2, the Braves rallied for three runs in the top of the eighth thanks to RBI singles from Marcell Ozuna, Adam Duvall, and Sean Murphy. Raisel Iglesias would close the door in the ninth in a 5-3 win.

The third game featured three solo homers from Michael Harris, Austin Riley, and Olson while Bryce Elder dazzled with a complete game shutout in a 3-0 win for Atlanta.

Acuna's homer in the opener puts him at 35 homers and 47 stolen bases. Riley's homer in the third game puts him 48, three over Olson as the best in baseball. He has an outside chance at 60 homers if he can catch fire again. Acuna is also pacing all of baseball in WAR, while Riley has maintained his status as the MVP favorite in the NL in a superstar level season.

With six straight wins, Atlanta is now at 95-40 and will now stay on the road to play the struggling Philadelphia Phillies, who are at 58-75.

Re: MLB The Show 24 Franchise Mode Discussion Thread

For the second straight year, the Blue Jays have lost a player to a season ending injury. Last year, it was Biggio who missed the entire second half and postseason with an ankle injury. This year, it was Vlad Jr's turn as he suffered a torn ACL in the third game of Toronto's four game series against the Yankees in New York, a game that the Jays lost 5-4. Due to this, the Jays were forced to make a move via the trade market. Outfielder Daulton Varsho and minor league first baseman Spencer Horwitz were moved to the Cleveland Guardians for Josh Naylor. Naylor immediately slots into the lineup at first, while Mickey Moniak now moves from bench bat to every day outfielder. The final game of Toronto's set with New York saw Naylor go 1 for 4 in his Jays debut, but the Yankees won 4-3 in 10 innings on a walk off sac fly. Toronto's lead in the division now down to one game after going just 3-5 on their eight game trek through Tampa and New York. Fortunately for Toronto, their next series is against the 22-43 Washington nationals, which the Jays will be at home for.

Gameplay note: The Naylor trade was one that I obviously would've preferred to wait until the deadline for, but the injury to Vlad effectively forced that process to be sped up.

Cardinals split 2 game series with Royals

The Cardinals (51-43) split their two game series with the Royals to begin the final week before the all star break. The Cardinals though, now are in sole possession of first place by a game of the NL Central as the Brewers continue to struggle.

The Cardinals and Royals had a roller coaster game on Tuesday as the Royals jumped out 2-0 in the 2nd, but then the Cardinals tied it in the bottom of the 3rd on a Nolan Arenado solo homerun. The Royals would knock Miles Mikolas out in the 6th after putting up 2 more runs on back to back to back doubles, making it 4-2. In the bottom half of the inning, the Cardinals would tie it again when Contreras doubled home Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado. The Cardinals would take a 5-4 lead in the 8th when Harrison Bader singled home Nolan Gorman. But Ryan Helsley would blow the save in the 9th to again tie the game, this time at 5. After a scoreless 10th and 11th inning, the Royals would score 4 runs in the 12th off of Gallegos to take a 9-5 lead, which would be the final score.

On Wednesday, it was less dramatic. Matthew Liberatore thru 7 scoreless innings and then Jordan Hicks worked a perfect 8th and Helsley a perfect 9th as the Cards would roll to a 3-0 finish. All 3 runs were scored in the 5th when Brendan Donovan would deliver a 2 out bases loaded double that pushed across 3 runs.

The Cardinals are off on Thursday as they await the Cubs to arrive in town for a 3 game weekend series to close out the first half of the season.
I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

A disastrous offense and the Blue Jays drop 3 games out of 4 at Kansas City

Dreadful. Ugly. Disastrous. Call it what you want but the Blue Jays played their worst baseball of the season during this 4 games series against Kansas City where they've been shutout in their 3 loses.

They lost both the first and the last game by a score of 1-0 and the second game by a score of 2-0. Their only win came in game 3 of the serie, 3-1.

While the offense has completely vanished, the pitching, however, was good and kept the Blue Jays at striking distance every game.

Still, the Blue Jays (18-8) remain at the top of the AL East with a 3 games lead over the Red Sox and the Orioles.

Up next, Toronto will head back home to play against the Los Angeles Dodgers (18-9) in a 3 games series.

The Reapers finished again in last place with a worst record then last year in the Central with Minnesota winning the division. The Cubs defeated the Orioles to win the World Series. It was another rough season with Luis Robert Jr going down with a torn MCL at the beginning of the season. Definitely had some good growth with young guys and hopefully will be better next year. One positive the Double A team the Barons won their division.

I'm at a bit of a loss here ... i play on hall of fame batting and pitching. And i've been shutting teams down with the red sox staff. And at times i'm absolutely raking, and in general I'm averaging about 10 hits per game.

Trying to challenge myself more, I also started a white sox franchise. The worst team in baseball. ANd so far through the first two series I'm undefeated ... and considering one of those series was against the braves where i dominated them. I'm not sure what to do.

Should I bump up the difficulty to legend? I am finding pitching (using meter) pretty easy to locate and therefore dominate - even with the white sox staff. Every other MLB the show, I've found legend to be ridiculously hard, as in i cannot compete.

how's everyone else going with gameplay difficulty?
