Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I posted earlier in the thread about thinking it was actually the sliders that were broken.
I have since turned this ON and the entire game is all back to normal now and I am having the greatest baseball game experience that I have come to expect from SCEA.
I really really want to thank the creator of this thread owe you a debt of gratitude. I was ready to ditch the PS3 seriously because this is the only reason I have it , but you saved it and me.
Thank you thank you thank you.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
Where or where is this "comeback" slider on/off. I have searched every gameplay setting/slider everywhere and i just don't know where I can find this option.
Someone help the dumb and blind with explicit directions to find this "Holy Grail" setting.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
<!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message -->Tell me about it. This is every game for me, and I have the feature set to OFF and have never turned it ON at any point.Yup.. I just played a game and I was winning 3-1 in the 8th.. Nationals had guys on 2nd and 3rd with 2 out. Milledge was up and I had him 0-2. I threw a splitter about 6 or so inches off the plate.. he pulled it for a 380 ft HR to take a 4-3 lead. I ended up losing. Ridiculous
I get up in counts, but if there's two out and the AI is down, no matter where I put the pitch or how perfect I throw it, they still murder it. It's a horse **** glitch and nothing more. No matter who it is, they aren't going to drive a curveball two feet off the plate for a 400 foot HR to their pull side. I'm so tired of this crap, the more I play the game, the more frustrating it gets.Comment

you can only access the option after you start the game, it's not available before you start.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
i have been reading this thread the last two days and decided to test this myself. and the game does play different (obviously) with the comeback on. i don't give up as many Hr's, the 3rd baseman seems to throw into the crowd alot more though. there are times with it on i got hammered. and i have only won 1 game decisively.
it seems like when i am winning... i can aim to pitch a ball to go low and outside and yet it crosses the middle of the plate or the ball hits the opposite side of the plate and they get perfect seeing eye singles. and at least 4-5 games of mine i have gone into the ninth with a 2-5 run lead only to see it blown. and as much as that sucks... i don't complain what bothers me is the games after they tie it go another 9-10 innings. i almost want to just give them the lead lol.
it does have a feel that "if you score the cpu will score" i pitch well with my starters and get slammed when i use my bullpen. i have not earned a save with my closer. i have seen the cpu batters pull low outside pitches and hit them 400 plus feet. i really don't know what to think of this game and yet... i can't stop playing lol.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
Played six games now with Comeback ON, and I'm 99.9999% sure it's reversed.
I've won 5, lost 1. Some blowouts, some nailbiters. No evidence at all that the CPU is getting an edge to comeback. They're not coming back at all. The games just play normally. You bring in a shutdown closer, he shuts down the game. You pitch guys in the corners or dirt, they're not pulling them into 400-foot home runs just because they're losing and the AI decides it needs to keep the game close.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
K, I'm gonna test this and I may be the ultimate test tube here.
I've played on Veteran difficulty since getting the game and I am terrible at pitching, giving up dozens and dozens of runs, probably like 10+ ER a game, maybe more. I've won 1 game out of maybe 10 - 15, and it was a nailbiter, losing all others, mostly by a large margin because I get so fed up giving up 8 runs in an inning that I sim/manage the rest. I'm going to try turning this on now and see the results.
Well.. so far
Baltimore @ Red Sox (me), pitching with Daisuke. In the bottom of the 4th, it's 0 - 0, the CPU has not had any HRs, or 5 run innings against me, which, surprisingly, might be the first time in this game that that's happened, where I've made it into the 5th inning without giving up a run (or 4 runs). I have 3 hit, 1 error (V-Tek made an errant throw on a wild pitch). Orioles have 2 hits, 0 errors. Score is 0 - 0, but this DOES feel easier... There were several times where I thought "OH DAMNIT" on a bad pitch that in past games had punished me, but this far, nothing like that.
Daisuke is probably my best pitcher for me, though, but he's also the guy who I get punished the most with when guys are on base. So far, only two "on base" situations for the Orioles, so we'll see how this holds up. So far, it's been a major difference in results, but I can't say if that's just a coicidence or something. Comparatively, earlier tonight I gave up like .. 15 runs with Beckett, and had already given up 8 or 9 runs by rhe 3rd inning, against this same Orioles team, so we'll see...
6th inning update
Botton of the 6th... 4 hits for the Orioles, no runs. Had one hairy situation with a guy on 3rd, and last inning, gave up a good hit too, but that's it. Much different from any other game I've played so far... I'm not hitting too well either though but that's proably my own fault.
7th Inning
Struck out the side... I've never done that before. I also missed a couple pitches too.
9th inning
In the bottom now, sure, still 0 - 0... Daisuke pitched 9 innings asnd he's out of gas now, but I've never gone this many innings without getting shelled. I coasted through the 8th and 9th too without any trouble. Rich Hill has some sick stuff on the mount right now for the Orioles. Even if this CPU assistance/comeback being on is still bogus, the game plays entirely different... no more am I giving up 8 run innings in the 3rd every game. Now, whether that' a good thing or not, I dunno... but so far, this game is 100% more enjoyable than the last few...
End game
Hahahaha, Varitek drove in the winning run on a well hit ball to RF, with Jason Bay on 3rd base... Daisuke gets a 9 inning shut out, 7Ks, 4 hits. Walk off win which is, well, my first, and my first win in Franchise mode too.. haha.
Anyway, this game plays ENTIRELY different with this CPU AI turned ON. And just to follow up, it WAS turned on for this game. Now, this was one f those 'nailbiting' games, but it was also a lot more enjoyable than giving up 15 runs in the 4th inning like I usually do. Whether that's actually good or not, I dunno, because maybe I won't really need to learn "how to pitch," but ... who knows. Need more time to see... it actually plays like how I think a game on the 2nd difficulty SHOULD play, rather than killing you on every missed pitch.
Orioles: 0 | 4 | 0
RedSox: 1 | 9 | 1
R H E
No BB for me, I also had 7 Ks compared to Hil's 3 K's against me. Hill still pitched a gem although he gets saddled with another late inning loss... He's 0 - 2 with a 1.77 ERA, haha.Last edited by Rebel10; 03-23-2009, 12:49 AM.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I don't really want to get involved in this crazy discussion...but I'm a bit confused.
Guys are saying that the "CPU Comeback Switch" is reversed....that OFF really means it's ON, and we should be switching it to ON for it to be OFF.
However, if I read the description correctly even if it's truly "ON", there shouldn't be any effect on a 0-0 game. The bonuses only come into effect when one team has a lead of 4 runs or more...Guys are reporting that the game plays differently immediately upon changing the switch to "ON". In fact in the example above, Rebel10 seems to have been able to see the effects in a 0-0 game into the 9th inning....?
So, is the assumption that it's not only reversed as far as ON/OFF goes, but it's also stuck 'ON' regardless of the lead/deficit so that the CPU gets these 'bonuses' at all times?
That seems to be a pretty serious blunder on SCEA's behalf if that's indeed the case. I'm a skeptic, but I'm curious to try it even though I play on Veteran mode. I'd think I should be able to be a pretty good test subject because I suck even on Veteran Mode....If I start winning at a .600 clip, then there's definitely something fishy going on.

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
Well three games in a row with blown leads going into the 9th for the save. This time I left computer comeback off. I dont usually play on legend and I see why. This is atrocious. I have never seen the comebacks like this on allstar or hof. Its becoming comical to say the least. 1 run lead= blown, 4 run lead= blown, 7 run lead =blown. the 2 big leads i had were with computer comeback on. There is deffinately a bs comeback factor in these legend exhibition games.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON
I actually enjoy it leaving it default (or "on" so to speak). With the O's, I'm 6-22 in ST but have a horrible staff. I absolutely love the challenge. I don't enjoy losing this much, but it's ST. Anywho, I love bringing in my closer with a 1 run lead. It's such a high pressure situation. Hell, even with a 3 run lead I am not sure whether or not Ray will bring his A game. I think SCEA did a fantastic job on this IMHO. I know for a fact I will have to utilize my bullpen much better this year. Last year, I could throw in a scrub to close the door and would be successful about 85% of the time. Not this year.Angels= 2025 World Series Champions!!Comment
