Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

I just set it up as "experienced" whenever they asked what I wanted to use. I just got a PS3 in January, and bought MLB 10, got some experience with that, then bought MLB 11, so I'm still trying to figure the game out. One game I'll score 8 runs, the next I'll have 3 hits.

I am using Allstar pitching and Allstar hitting for both the CPU and myself. I may have to drop to Veteran but I want the CPU to be semi-difficult on hitting. Through 10 games I am 5-5 but really trying to get a feel.

The trick I use for hitting that seems to work well is this:

Always guess fastball inside. Not low and inside, not high and inside, just the inside part of the plate. The reason being that an inside fastball is the pitch that gives you the very least amount of time to react and hit it successfully, so if you know it's coming, you can crush it. If you see it's a fastball, it's probably going to be outside, so you have a split second longer to react and drive it the opposite way. If it's not a fastball, you know it's going to be an offspeed pitch away (or inside if you guessed right on that). It's seemed to work well for me.

Starting mine over as I'm switching to classic pitching. Have the hitting stats where I want them and hopefully after a few final tweaks with classic pitching I'll be good to go.

Great touch in franchise mode - in game trade announcements.

In game 5 of my pre-OSMinors franchise (just to have the feeling that these games mean something) I decided trying to trade for a back end of rotation pitcher like the real Yankees would. I avoided trading Ivan Nova, and instead went with 2 younger pitching prospects, offering them to the White Sox for Mark Buehrle. I played this game thinking that it would take at least another day for the Sox to respond, but in like the 4th inning of the game, Vasgersian says, "We have breaking trade news for you right here, as you see the Yankees have been busy." They showed the details of the trade on the screen, and not expecting this, I was stunned. I could almost hear Suzyn Waldman on WCBS going "Oh my gooodness graaaacious, MARK BUEHRLE is on the Jumbotron, and he is going to be a NEW YURK YANKEE! Oh, my....!!!"

There were only two issues with this. 1. It was still a little too easy to trade for Buehrle, even though it was harder to find A prospects. 2. Immediately after this, Mark Buehrle miraculously apparated into the right field pen with his perfectly made virtual jersey ready to pitch as needed... ya right.

Ok, never doing this again it toke to long lol. Well its was a close game Jason Bay owned me the whole game getting 2 HR's and his team all their runs but I couldn't hit that well but I toughed up in the 8th and scored the go ahead run. Still think Hamels shoulda got the win. And any tips on timing hitting? Im on All-Star.

What difficulty do you play in Herosandvillians and how are you doing in the game? I tried playing a series in rookie for fun vs the red sox and they killed me with a .356 average for the series.
I'm currently on HOF...Timing Hitting, Analog Pitching...Veteran (Auto) Fielding (Manual Throwing).

What was your team batting average and team ERA before the switch to Rookie? What were you on for the other 30 games?

                Things seemed fine to me.

Why are you using auto fielding? I haven't picked up the game yet, but I was under the impression that fielding was way better than last year with the analog and fielding changes. Is this not the case?

                    Remember...

I was the one with the elite suckiness!

Mainly, while I track my stats before my 'real' franchise, I don't want to "learn" how to field along the way; muddying up my numbers.

I may give assisted fielding a whirl during ST, though...

But yes, I've been told that diving and such is much easier/improved this year. It does sound fun.

Finally started clicking on the offensive side. I was playing as my Phils of course and we were playing at home against the mets. The score was scoreless untill the top of the third when Daniel Murphy hit a solo HR. I was like, " Great, Here we go againnnnn!" But then At the bottom of the 3rd I managed to get Jimmy Rollins on base, and of course I stole. Then with two outs and Jimmy on third after a passed ball I managed to hit a bloup single for an RBI that just got passed David Wright. The very next at-bat Niese but a fastball over the plate and I nailed it with Chase. (Pic can be seen in my arena.) Victorino Later hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth. But at the top of the 6th the mets scored to more runs, to make the score 4-3, but I wasnt going to give up the lead so easily so the very next inning I got two more RbI's with Polanco and two more with Fransico I believe to make it 8-3. But I still wasn't done in the top of the 9th I hit a 2-run Pinch-Hit Homerun with Ross Gload to seal the deal. Brad Lidge ended up getting his 3rd save of the year, and to give me a 10-3 win. The gload HR can also be seen in my arena. I am now 4-1, with The Doc up next against Johan Santana to redeem his Opening Day lose to the Astros.

I'm getting the hang of it. I'm 4-7. I'm starting to pitch well, and I don't make a throwing error every inning. Still have too many though.

                            Better trading AI.....

I traded 2 minor league guys(no better than C potential) and got Corey Hart! Also traded some other random players and got Webb.

With me getting Hart, JD Drew is available. Who should I trade him for? My 1B are great power guys, but are both 35+(one is 1B, one is DH) and my C is average.

How well are you doing in HOF. I seem to be struggling in All-star always allowing runs off throwing errors and pitchers having no control over their pitch.

                                Hey guys,

Can you remind me what settings are needed that when controlling all 30 teams, you can use one team extensively while letting the others trade, sign, etc? I know last year I could veto any trade in the league... but I don't think I'm doing it right this year. So, what are the correct settings again?
