    Yankees Lose Opener 5-2
Rainy Cold Day + Hot Verlander Equals Opening Day Loss for NY

    Verlander (2.34 ERA) K's 13 and Walks 3

Cabrera Slams 2 HR's for 4 RBI's to Lead Detroit

Rodriguez the only spark for NY as he goes 1-4 with a 2 Run HR

Sabathia (7.50 ERA) Fans 7 and Walks 2 but Gives up 2 HR's in the Loss

I'm half way through April with the Padres. I picked them because i knew it would be a challenge with a poor team and a terrible stadium for hitters.

I am 5-10 and struggled to start out the year offensively but now my hitting has picked up a little but my pitching is the downfall now.

      Should be a fun season.

Orlando Cabrera and Chase Headley are my main threats with the bat.

I'm currently ranked in the last 5 in Batting Average, Home runs, RBIs and nearly every meaningful offensive category.

I'm having the same problem. I'm currently 7-9 in Spring Training of my Cubs franchise. My team ERA is 3.96, but my team Batting Average is .217!

I had to drop back down to Veteran hitting, I just couldn't take seeing Castro and Colvin hitting .143 and .107 collectively. LOL

After starting the season 0-4 I pushed Mat Latos up in the rotation to try and get things going in the season. It was a 0-0 pitchers duel between Latos and Lincecum going into the bottom of the seventh when Orlando Hudson led the inning off with a big triple over Cody Ross leading into Jason Bartlett driving him in two pitches later giving the Padres their first lead of the season. Mat Latos was masterful. 7 inn 2 H 7 SO. And Eric Patterson double drove in an insurance run with two outs in the eighth inning leading way to a Heath Bell save. Final score Padres 2 Giants 0.

Who here does a fantasy draft franchise? I'm thinking I'll do a SCEA roster season, a OSFM season, and a fantasy draf season for both.

Anyone have strategies for drafting? I know that I'm better at pitching so I was thinking of drafting good pitching and then building around them with good defensive players. Also was thinking of getting a "Franchise" player and building around them (likely the Doc if I can snag him).
            What would Doc do?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Decided to do a fantasy draft going for defense. Started with good pitching and defense although many of my players are OLD but I then filled in with young A potential players to be the future of the Phils.

                Here is my rotation:
                Cliff Lee
                Tim Hudson
Andy Pettitte (he was still on the default rosters)
                Clayton Richard
                James McDonald

                SU: Rafael Soriano
                CP: Mariano Rivera

I didn't even look at offensive abilities for my lineup just went with the highest fielding rating. Some REALLY bad offensive players that have A fielding ratings but I built this team to win a World Series in year one then rebuild from the young guys.

                Lineup:
                2B - Luis Castillo
                1B - Todd Helton
                CF - Mike Cameron
                3B - Eric Chavez
                LF - Bobby Abreu
                DH - Travis Ishikawa
                RF - Jeff Francoeur
                C - Ivan Rodriguez
                SS - Omar Vizquel

They actually have very good contact ratings but HORRIBLE power. Looks like this will be a small ball team although some guys have a good mix of contact/power to give me some homers.
                What would Doc do?

I'm terrible against the Yankees. I'll be doing fine, and then boom, they homer 3 in 1 inning. Just random.

Then I played the Orioles, and it went to 13 innings. I hadn't scored since a 2 man homer in the 1st. They gave me a high fastball, and I completely slammed it into left field. Funny thing, Victor Martinez was 0 for 5 before I did that.

So these are my fantasy's team's rankings:
                    Pitching - 1st
                    Defense - 1st
                    Offense - 30th
                    Overall - 30th

Seems like they put way too much emphasis on offense when ranking a team's overall, my team's not even THAT bad offensively.
                    What would Doc do?

My offense, pitching staff, and defense is just rolling right now. Up to 10-12 and about to sweep Chicago.

Brennan Boesch is the man. He is hitting .305 with 17 RBI which leads my team. It's just like last year (real life) with him, he hits everything on a line into the gaps.

I got Austin Jackson's average up from .160 to .200 now. He's 5 for his last 12 with a HR and a few stolen bases. Swiped 3rd a few times.

I decided to sim using default rosters to see this 2013 glitch for myself.

So you know the Phillies feared rotation? Guess who they signed in 2012 to add to that in this sim....

                        Adam Wainwright

That's right, the rotation is Halladay, Lee, Wainwright, Oswalt, Hamels

                        My god...

Started a franchise with the Rays. Used fantasy draft. Never used an American League team before because I'm not a fan of the DH but so far so good. I'm 6-1 so far and already scored 51 runs. Here's my lineup and how I aquired these players:

                            1. LF Carl Crawford- Aquired in trade. I gave up Raul Ibanez, A rated closer prospect, and an A rated CF prospect. In return I got Crawford and an A rated RF.

                            2. 2B Freddy Sanchez- Aquired in trade. I got Sanchez, A rated Wade Davis, and Closer Johnathan Papelbon. I gave up second baseman B rated Jason Donald and RP Raphael Soriano.

                            3. 3B Evan Longoria (drafted)

                            4. 1B Adam Dunn (drafted)

                            5. RF Nelson Cruz- Aquired in trade. Straight up for Colby Rasmus. Rasmus is a little younger, Cruz being 30. But my lineup was lefty heavy and the Pirates were willing to take him straight up. My only mistake was not trying to get some prospects for him. I had a trade for Ryan Braun and the teams interest level was as high as it can get but they still wouldn't pull the trigger.

                            6. DH Russel Branyan (drafted)

                            7. C Matt Wieters (drafted)

                            8. CF Andrew McCutchen- drafted and total stud! Speed to steal on any catcher, has a great arm and great fielder. Also has some pop. I alternate McCutchen and Sanchez in the 2 hole. Sanchez is a doubles machine and I like the speed that McCutchen gives me at the bottom of the order but Sanchez slumps so that's why I alternate.

                            9. SS STARlin Castro (drafted)

                            Pitching rotation

                            1. Jake Peavy (drafted)
                            2. Stephen Strasberg (drafted)
                            3. Ted Lilly (drafted)
                            4. Wade Davis (aquired in aforementioned trade)
                            5. James McDonald (drafted)

                            Bullpen

LRP- A rated rookie lefty Mike Minor (Drafted)
                            LRP- Tim Wakefield (drafted)
MRP- RHP A rated prospect Mario Villa. He is a closer but I have him as a reliever. He's 18 lol.
                            MRP- LHP J.C. Romero (drafted)
SU- LHP Aroldis Chapman (drafted and I've thrown a 102 MPH fastball with him and a 99 MPH 2 seamer!)
CP- RHP Johnathan Papelbon (aquired in aforementioned trade)

My bench has two vets in Pedro Feliz and Reed Johnson. I also have Brett Gardner on my bench who is A rated.

I have 10 A rated prospects in the minors and several B rated prospects as well. I take drafting very seriously and always try and draft many A rated prospects. Not only do they greatly improve your chances of getting that must have player you covet but they will help your franchise for years to come. Now only if I can get the financial aspect of running a franchise down to a science! lol

Actually, they only had him for one year and lost to the YANKEES AGAIN. Then the next year they won.

BTW, in 2014 and the big 4 are STILL together on the Phils with everything set to auto (We've won the NL east every single season, three WS appearances with one win).

Doing a spring as the Brewers waiting on OS's rosters. Default All-Star. I suck. 1-6 with a team BA of .169. Im using this as a good sample for my sliders. Finally won a game....Weeks struck out on a curve in the dirt. The catcher threw the ball into RF Weeks to 3rd on the error. Scored the winning run on the next pitch.
