Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

Started a franchise up last night. For the first time ever I'm going to try to use two teams. Couldn't decide which team I wanted to use between the Rockies and Tigers so I just said screw it and used both of them.

Going to rotate games between the two teams. For instance, going to play the Rockies 1st game and sim the Tigers then I'm going to play the Tigers second game and sim the Rockies, ect.

Played two games with Tigers so far and I have a grand total of 5 hits. C.C threw a 4 hit complete game shutout which I could live with. Then the next game against Baltimore I was one hit by Jake Arrietta. He had a no-no through 7 and two thirds until Carlos Guillen hit a bomb off of the right field foul pole, that proved to be the only hit my Tigers could muster. Its gonna be a long year in Detroit if we can't get the bats going any better than that.

Doing a little better with the Rockies thanks to the one man show that is Ian Stewart. He has 3 homeruns in played games plus another in simulation. Struggling to hit with Tulo. Hopefully its not a David Wright situation where I just can't hit with the dude.

    Records so far.
    Tigers 1-3
    Rockies 2-2

I'm thinking of doing something similar to this. I really want to use an NL team as well so it doesn't get stale playing as just the Red Sox. Thinking either Rockies or Reds would be fun.

I kind of do want to wait until Full Minors are out though. I don't have issues with the moves the computer makes, or if guys like Longoria hit second in a lineup, but if players are going to be brought up from the minors, I want them to at least be real. I don't want some fake pitcher throwing a 95 MPH fastball along with a knuckleball.

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

As is the case with many people here, I'm waiting for the OSFM rosters to release until I start my "real" franchise.

In the meantime I downloaded a roster set with the top 50 prospects (and created a few others for the Yankees, just to try out), and decided to use ST with the Yankees to get a feel for how I expect the position battles to unfold, and to see if I can really stick with analog hitting (I love the pitching... and fielding has been a bit dicey once balls are in the outfield, but I think I'll be sticking with it).

I beat the Phillies in back to back games - Andrew Brackman really impressed throwing two perfect innings against the Phillies 1-6 batters, striking out 5! Ivan Nova and Freddy Garcia pitched decently -

          Nova: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER (2R), 1 BB, 4K
          Garcia: 4.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2K

I killed the Tigers 7-1, my pitchers combining for a perfect game through 6 2/3 - and then I dropped my last game to the Pirates.

So far, I'm loving the game... I'm actually going to start looking into some trades to bolster the back end of the rotation. I think a package of Chamberlain, Austin Romine, and one of David Phelps/Eduardo Nunez should be able to net me a decent mid-rotation starter. Not sure if I'll pull the trigger on anything, but it's worth considering! (of course, I'm also going to consider moving Joba back to the rotation and "stretching him out" over the course of ST once I get the OSFM rosters)

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

            Here's my two cents:

            - I simmed a season and the trade logic looked pretty solid, haven't jumped into the offseason yet, but you definitely had sellers and buyers.

-Love the ticker and new scoreboards, of course if we have to use 30 team control it nulls these two additions, or at least I've found it does.

So here's the dilemma, I'm not worried about the 2014 bug as I usually don't go through more than two seasons at most anyways, but I really like the new ticker and would like to go without 30 man control.

What's the simplest way to keep the lineup logic correct and not use 30 team control? Last year I used 30 team control to ix the lineups/40 man, and to kill any bad trades. This year I think I only need it for lineup/roster management.

I'm guessing I could set the 25 man rosters prior to spring training and do it that way, or just before each game, grab control of the CPU's team and fix their lineup.

            Any ideas?

Re: MLB 11 The Show "Franchise/Season" Progress Thread

My first series of the season is with the Atlanta Braves at home.

The Opening Day pitching matchup is going to be as great one of young guns

              Washington- Clayton Kershaw
              Atlanta- Tim Lincecum

*Remember I did a fantasy draft (7th selection)*

              Here's my Opening Day lineup:

              1. CF Adam Jones
              2. LF Brett Gardner
              3. 1B Albert Pujols
              4. 3B Ryan Zimmerman
              5. 2B Aaron Hill
              6. RF Colby Rasmus
              7. C Carlos Santana
              8. SS J.J. Hardy

I think I have a very solid team. If Hardy doesn't get the job done at short (defensively) I have a guy I can put out there who is average but a much better fielder. The rest of my infield is very, very good defensively and the outfield is looking solid too. I believe my team is rated #2 overall with a #2 offense and #22 pitching. I think that's low for my pitching, but oh well. Team ratings don't mean too much IMO.

I could see me switching up Rasmus & Hill in the batting order if Hill doesn't bring that average up.

              Pitching rotation:
              1. Clayton Kershaw
              2. Phil Hughes
              3. C.J. Wilson
              4. Carl Pavano
              5. Jeff Manship

Bullpen is decent with Aroldis Chapman & Ryan Franklin as my late inning guys.

I really want to stay home and play The Show all day

Too bad I probably can't even get a dang game in today either

Nevermind I will lose sleep to play this first game tonight!!!

I'm a big Yankees fan, but I wanted to do a national league franchise this year. So, I took the Braves because I like their young players.

Won my first game 3-0 on a 3-run homerun by Alex Gonzales. Only had 4 hits the whole game, though.

                  Exactly.

Who on planet earth would have predicted Giants v Rangers in the world series last year.

This is why I love baseball

Well there's parity in the playoffs. Throughout the season you know who's going to probably make the playoffs.

Agree 100%. Its kind of funny to read this forum every year and see some guys basically spend the whole summer tweaking sliders, equipment, rosters, etc to try to achieve the mirroring of real life and it makes me ask myself when are they actually playing the game and having fun lol To each his own i guess

Cardinals franchise (Spring Training vs Marlins)...

Well... Pujols is gone and traded to the Mariners for King Felix and Brandon League. Then I shipped Berkman and some prospects to the Mets for Ike Davis to replace Pujols.

I will have Jon Jay and Allen Craig battle it out for RF since Berkman is gone. So far my spring training line-up is:

                        SS - Ryan Theriot
                        CF - Colby Rasmus
                        LF - Matt Holliday
                        1B - Ike Davis
                        3B - David Freese
                        RF - Jon Jay
                        2B - Skip Schmaker
                        C - Yadi Molina
                        P - Pitcher Spot

                        Starting Rotation is:

                        Adam Wainwright
                        Felix Hernandez
                        Chris Carpenter
                        Jaime Garcia
                        Jake Westbrook

I had my first spring training game with Wainwright on the mound just for 3 innings and he did work. Gave up a first inning homer to Gaby Sanchez but then retired the next 7 with 4 K's.

After Wainwright left the game and I put in my rookie pitchers to try and make the squad the Marlins took total advantage and raped my two rookies scoring 9 runs. Rasmus hit a homer but the Cards lost 10-1.

Next King Felix makes his spring/Cardinal debut...

Well you got the Cy Young winner but you're gonna need those bats to pick up for that.

I could not get rid of a guy like Pujols. A guaranteed 300-30-100 with solid defense?

My bullpen is fantastic! Balfour, Fuentes, Bailey, Wuertz... couldnt ask for more... the rotation is also really good.. so any 3-4 runs i score makes for a very good chance of a W
