Well, maybe as the GM of the Pads you can spend some money and get a bat in the middle of the order. Don't get me started on Philly Billy. Guy is a tool. But I agree, the Pads don't spend the money. Getting an OF that can hit in the middle of the order and some more speed is priority #1 for me.
No one says Boo about the Chargers because they are more succesful than the Padres are. The Chargers are considered an elite team, while the Pads are a middle of the pack team at best.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
I had a couple of rally killing double plays. Remember also I am the Pads, and they are basically a station to station ball club. And it was in 10 innings.
Actually if you've watched SD at all, it pretty much is exactly how they have performed the last few years. Clutch hits are a rarity, while rally killing DP's are not. LOL.
Oh, well if it went 10 innings then that explains the extra hits. You have a point about the Padres offense as well.
Maybe HOF is the way to go for MOM. If in fact difficulty does have an effect.... which I'm pretty sure it does.
After 3 and a half innings. Astros 5 runs on 4 hits. Padres 3 runs on 4 hits.Last edited by ericjwm; 03-09-2008, 04:29 AM.Comment

You live in this area?

Ya...I live just east of the 15 near Friar's road (I'm so close to Qualcom). I can't stand Billy either(come to think of it...I'm not a fan of any of these guys except for Scott on the morning show). Coach made the exact point about the Chargers...they have been producing while the Pads haven't."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
It's still a small sample size. 2 games with the Pads. 2 games with the Angels and 2 games with the White Sox. But I have to say I am pretty happy with what I am seeing. I'll start keeping better track for this thread.Comment

I like Coach as well. But at this point I listen to a lot more ESPN radio on XM than the local stuff.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
On another note. In MOM much like real life. Brian Giles serves no purpose for the Padres.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Ah..I know where that is. I actually fly over it quite often. I do like the fact that the local station is sports 24/7 (I don't have XM), so it keeps me plugged in when I'm on the road."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
One more update. Last one till the end of the game.
Bottom of 6th. Wandy Rodriguez still pitching for Houston. Adrian Gonzalez singles to right. Kevin Kouzmanoff ties the game with a homer to Left Center.
After 6, Astros 5 runs on 4 hits, Padres 5 runs on 7 hits.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
I'm going to give HOF default a try today. I actually tried Veteran last night with some slider adjustments, and I had a decent game. And the player of the game was none other than SD's own Brian Giles (3-5, Double, HR, 2 RBI) - so see BK, he is worth something
SoxChamp - I have lowered the reaction time to 0, and have bumped up the Hit Quality slider. It has seemed to have some positive effect on things.
One other thing I realized yesterday was that I've only been playing exhibition games, and have only been going #1 starter vs. #1 starter, so perhaps that has had something to do with it. I should try getting deeper into the rotation.MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates, Colorado Rockies
NFL: Pittsburgh Steelers
NHL: Pittsburgh Penguins
NBA: Denver Nuggets, Orlando Magic
NCAA: Penn State Nittany Lions, Boston College EaglesComment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Thanks. Please do, as I would love to know if it makes a difference. I just find it odd that the difficulty setting would be the only '1P' setting that does anything. Every other setting/slider for MOM is labeled 'CPU'. In the meantime, I'll still give it a try and see what happens.Last edited by SoxChamp; 03-09-2008, 10:54 AM.It's only a video game.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
OK, I'm playing a game right now on HOF. Power up 2 clicks from default, the rest of the sliders relating to offense on default.
Reds v Yankees
I'm only through 4 innings. There have been 16 hits between the two teams. All SINGLES. A majority of them up the middle.
I'm sorry, I'm just not seeing it. I don't know what else to say. It's really strange how we are seeing different things. I'm glad you guys are getting the results you want, but I'm seeing nothing but a busted game.Last edited by SoxChamp; 03-09-2008, 12:14 PM.It's only a video game.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
For the guys who have lowered reaction time to '0', are you seeing an issue with fielders basically not reacting at ALL to sharply hit ground balls or liners to the gap, or do you feel that they are reacting more "realistically"?
I have only bumped up hit Quality +2 and Power +2 , and left everything else at default. I am seeing walks and K's while playing the Dodgers and Angels spring training schedules, so I am using the rotations at this time.
After the "bump up" I have noticed more line drives and more sharply hit balls, but I am seeing balls hit to the corners and the gaps, as well as the usual singles up the middle.
I LOVE MOM mode. I wish you could play MOM online as it would make for some truly great league play, but, someday...Comment

As far as reaction time, I was not seeing good things with it set at 0. Like you said, infielders will sometimes just stand there and a screamer goes sailing on by just a few feet from them. I had to move my slider back up to 8 and it seems to be working fine with infielders, but I'm still not seeing ANY doubles. I finished the Reds v. Yankees game I referenced above. 21 Total Hits. 1 HR. 20 Singles. Booooooo.Last edited by SoxChamp; 03-09-2008, 03:00 PM.It's only a video game.Comment
