Move the pitch speed & power equally. If you seperate hit quality, power & pitch speed too far apart from one another, weird results will occur sometimes. Such as batters going the other way on every pitch, a ton of hits, very few K's or too many K's, etc...

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
I'm getting decent results with mildly adjusted All-Star sliders.
Just small upticks in contact, power and hit quality.
I've left the timing window at default for the time being. Same with Pitch Count.
I've lowered fielder speed and reaction time drastically to try induce more doubles. Hasn't hurt gameplay too much w/r/t fielders just standing there. There were 2 doubles total in my last game. One gapper to the wall and one down the line. There would have been another but the ball bounced off the stands jutting out down the line.
My last game was a 6-0 shut out. Erik Bedard was flat out ON. He had a four hit shutout with 1 walk and 8 K's. Texas threw Kevin Millwood and he had far less success. Went 3 and 2/3 and gave up 7 hits and 3 walks. Racked up a huge pitch count early.
So it's still early and I need to get a lot more games to be sure, but I think people might be over tuning this game, particularly for manage only mode.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
So would it be reasonable to set Pitch Speed, Hit Quality, and Power ALL at 12 (two clicks up from default)? Any time I set Hit Quality lower per others suggestions, my team becomes a team of little leaguers at the plate. If I hit another tapper back to the mound or pop up behind home plate........I'll need a new controller!Last edited by SoxChamp; 03-09-2008, 06:16 PM.It's only a video game.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Playing the 3rd game of my series with Houston tonight.
Just an update after 6 innings I have 4 runs on 7 hits, including 2 doubles (B.Giles and J.Bard)
The Astros have 2 runs on 5 hits, including 1 double (L.Berkman. )Comment

That might give you better results. But if it doesn't, try hit quality at 12 and both pitch speed & power on 13. You'll really just have to experiment yourself with these 3 sliders to find a good setting.
They've also added that timing window slider which I'm currently trying to figure out. Like you mentioned when the timing window is below 5 the offense drops considerably. So I think that needs to be at default or higher.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Man, from your posted results it would appear no sliders need adjusting. You're playing on HOF difficulty with default sliders?Comment

Keep in mind though, I have a pretty small sample size so it just maybe a coincidence.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Could be a fluke, but so far so good.
Next time I try manage only, I'm going play a few games leaving all the sliders default, which is something I never do. I've gotten so use to having to correct certain issues in past versions, that I just naturally alter stuff.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
No....I'm still testing a bunch of stuff....but Nem and I are kind of trying to sync my set with his sliders this year. Right now I think we've got the cut-off problem licked(so you get throws from the OF straight to the base and home plate)...next is the OF range....which I think is going to be an edit of attributes not a slider adjustment.
I'll put up something once I get settled in a little more.

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Here's some stats from 4 games of a Rivalry series between the Cubs and Brewers - I wanted to ask what you guys thought of the numbers.
Code:Cubs vs Brewers Batting 135 AB 134 12 R 17 35 H 34 6 2B 5 0 3B 2 1 HR 4 12 RBI 17 44 TB 55 7 BB 9 25 K 41 2 SB 1 1 CS 1 .294 OBP .291 .326 SLG .410 .259 AVG .254 Pitching 4.11 ERA 3.08 41 K 25 0 SO 1 17 R 12 16 ER 12 Fielding 105 PO 105 39 A 43 3 E 0 1 PB 0 .980 FLD 1.000
I just want to know what you guys think of the numbers first.

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
HOW HOW HOW are you seeing those results??? I just don't get it. When I moved everything back to default and moved up to HOF, I saw 21 Hits, 20 of the them singles. I'm lost. It's only a video game.Comment

Re: CPU vs. CPU (and MOM) discussion
Ready for a shock? Like bkrich, these are defaults - I didn't change a single thing. All-Star difficulty, if it matters (and I really don't think it does). And those doubles (and triples!!) numbers aren't a typo.
There's only one thing I can think of that makes so much of a difference between quick games (which I normally test on) and the rivalry series - Progressive batting Performance MUST be playing a role. Quick game is like playing in a vacuum, and maybe it doesn't allow the stats to balance themselves out over time (and multiple games) like a rivalry or season mode would. That's the best I can come up with for why the results would be so strikingly different - it really is hard to imagine.
As for individuals, Ryan Braun is absolutely tearing the cover off the ball. 3 HR's and he had that monster jack I was alluding to in the main forum. His PBP arrow is pointing straight up!
I'm watching Game 5 now, and another double, and another HR were hit as I type. This really is amazing. There are things I want to change (and I think I'm going to take nem's advice to limit the cutoff throws), but I can't argue with the stats - not one bit.Comment
