Random question that I'll post here: does the hit quality slider affect the frequency of contact, or just the probability that the ball will be hit solidly?

It affects the quality of the hit not so much whether you actually make contact. I feel the vision slider affects your actual contact more.

How about for the CPU, since they don't have a vision slider?

From what I have been told apparently there is supposed to be one. I think that is why we are having some issues particularly this year with the cpu not being as effective. I know we have not had it in the past but this year the way the game is tuned we need it. I am wondering if the cpu timing window slider was supposed to be the vision slider.

now that my st games are over and i went 3-3 in my final six games using them in st. and seeing how i had a slugfest with them in game one of my season aginst Boston... it iwll be fun to see how they unfold. for those of you that say the cpu ISNT hitting on HOF or wihile using this or any slider set either your too good at t his game or somethin cause other than my first two games on these slilders the computer has scored at least 2 or more runs aginst me everytime. been a couple times they have scored 5+ runs on me in a game.. so i def cant say that the cpu isnt hitting with or with out the sliders on HOF cause i was getting mixed results on defualt for the time Nem was making fixes to the starter set. no matter im happy.. .for now lol

Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

My 3rd game with these sliders: CLE (Westbrook) at NYY (Hughes)

                Indians 7 13 0
                Yankees 1 8 0

                2B- A.Rodriguez, Peralta, Gutierrez
                HR- V.Martinez, Garko

                Hughes (NYY): 5 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 K
                Westbrook (Cle): 7.1 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5K

This game turned ugly for me. It wasn't the sliders...it was me just getting plain lazy and the game got out of hand. This game proved that if you make the slightest mistake or let up in your concentration in any way, then the opponent can capitalize and it'll blow up in your face. That's what happened to me in this game. It was late and I was tired (I work 12-hour shifts and I just started my "weekend"). This is cool because I want my baseball games to be difficult; I want to feel a sense of accomplishment when I win instead of just going through the motions and coming out with a win.

I lost this game in the 5th inning, when Hughes walked back-to-back hitters to lead off the inning. The next batter then hit a grounder to A-Rod, a possible DP ball. I moved A-Rod over to field the ball but let off the analog stick a bit and pressed triangle for a throw to second because I thought he was in good enough position to field the ball. The ball went right past him and into LF for a hit. Probably my fault for rushing it. Instead of getting two outs they scored on the play. When all was said and done, the Indians put up a 4-spot and I was down 5-0.

The rest of the game my offense suffered because I was swinging at a lot of first pitches trying to speed up the game. My concentration level just wasn't there anymore. I'm usually not like that when I'm down, but I was tired.

Looking at my stats from the 3-game series and I am very happy with these sliders. My team hit .255, 4 HR, 9 R, 3 BB, 34 K, and pitchers had a 4.50 ERA, 14 K, 4 BBA, and allowed 3 HR. Average was low and strikeouts were high, but I did face Sabathia and Carmona in this series. My team average should go up because I next face Baltimore and three crappy pitchers. Three games is a VERY small sample size to judge sliders, but so far so good. Still not happy with walks on both sides, but what more can we do?

I'm interested in seeing these new sliders Nem is working on. I'm going to plug away this week on more games before I start my "real" franchise next week after the next roster update. I won't post every game result, but I'll post my thoughts as I go.

Do you guys play with the pitch indicator on or off when fielding?

I recently started playing with it OFF (classic pitching), when I started trying out Nemesis' sliders. I like it better because pitching is more of a "feel" now because you have to estimate where you're aiming the ball. It makes it harder to consistantly hit the corners, which in reality, when do you ever see a pitcher hitting his spots pitch after pitch? It makes the CPU hitting better, too, if you accidentally leave one over the plate.

It may sound intimidating, but in 3 games my pitchers issued a total of 4 walks, so walks are still relatively low. For my next 3 games I am going to switch from "Classic" to "Meter" pitching, to see if that produces more walks.

Meter pitching unfortunately will not produce more walks. You will have to stick to classic.
I am upping movement in the next set and that will aid in more walks!

In regards to walks, after 33 games my pitching staff issued 73 walks. Now I am using -10 command, +3 pitch movement, and classic style. I have noticed that sometimes my pitchers can not hit the stike zone period! I like this because it simulates to me a pitcher off his game. However most of the time (depending on thier ERA up to that point in the season)) they hit there mark or close to it. I also have the CPU hit quality at +4, power at +1, and plate disipline at +5. I could be wrong, but it seems like plate vision at +5 makes striking out the CPU harder and induces them to take a little more. I really feel like I have accomplished something if I get 10 or more K's in a game.

And by the way I do have the MLB strikeout leader last year as my ace!

You should play with it on, that way you do not have all your pitches at a 100% effectiveness.
The confidence for the pitcher always stays on.

I noticed this after the first few innings of my first game using Meter pitching. I actually switched back to Classic after a few innings. Mussina was my pitcher and he was hitting his spots; even when I missed bad with the meter the ball was in the strike zone.

By the way, in Game 4 (NYY at BAL) of my trial run with these sliders I got hammered by the Orioles (can't remember the score, but Moose and Ohlendorf got pounded).

I am currently in the middle of Game 5 in which my Yankee offense has FINALLY exploded. A-Rod has 2 bombs and I've pounded out 10 hits so far. It's 7-7 in the 8th inning. All this off of the Orioles' #5 starter. Ian Kennedy left with a 7-2 lead but my bullpen has blown the lead. My bullpen sucks on this "pretend" season! Don't think it's the sliders, but does anyone feel there's a comeback bug implanted in the game somewhere? In 3 games (out of 5) in which my bullpen was called on to hold a lead, they have blown it each time.

Anyway, still love the sliders...as I go I see no real problems with them. I had a 4.50 team ERA after 4 games and just gave up 7 runs so far in Game 5...the CPU hitters are a force to be reckoned with!
