Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

I just started my franchise (I haven't been able to play this game very much until this weekend). I am using your slider set and am having a great time on offense, but I am completely terrible pitching. I have an ERA of around 9.00 through the first ten games. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, I am using the Pirates which are generally terrible (but probably not THAT terrible). Second, I am having a horrible problem controlling my pitches. I am using classic pitching. It is not that I am walking too many batters. It is that if I don't want to walk EVERYONE, I can't exclusively through borderline pitches (which means too many pitches are catching the middle of the plate). Anyone have any help or advise?

Up your command to -5 instead of -10. That should help. Also, you can flatten out your pitches by lowering pitch movement closer to default to help you pinpoint a little better.

Some things I have been noticing post patch:

1- The hit variety seems to be elevated here. I have been seeing some interesting flare type hits.

2- The control with classic pitching has been reduced and seems to be more like 07

3- The human offense seems to be toned down a little in regards to left stick aiming. When the game was first released, it seemed like you got a huge contact bonus for making a perfect left stick match with the ball.

4- The cpu offense seems to be a little more livelier but not to the degree of 07. They are starting to get more extra base hits this go around.

On a separate note, I was playing the Orioles and the catcher did a fake passed ball routine on me. It had Damon hung out to dry between second and third. I have never seen that before in this game. I was like, I just got played!
I agree with #2, I finally am walking 2-4 batters in a game wheras before I was lucky to get 1 walk. #4, I agree with also as I'm seeing the balls hit harder from the CPU IMO.

What's your view on CPU OF speed?? I am certain it plays different in the OF, not sure if it's due to positioning, speed, or some other factor. But I've definetly seen more gappers and more realistic plays in the OF.

Something does feel a little different in the outfield. They definitely do not get to the ball as fast as they usually do. I am not convinced the individual speed sliders are working like some people feel.

So Nemesis, are we going to be seeing some adjustments in the slider department?

I had it just happen to me, using Nemesis sliders, so it should be fine.

No way! Wow, don't know if I would actually like it though. Was it fair if you know it exists?

I agree with you on all of the points you made above, but its all for the better in my opinion.

Even after the patch the game still plays the same. I am still getting ridiculous amounts of hits. This is playing on HOF mode with my hit quality turned to 0. I wish the patch would have looked more into the offensive explosions.

Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

Nemesis, I would like to thank you for your hard work on these sliders and I can't believe I am saying this, but I going to be using them from now on in my franchise. The reason I say that is because I am not one to mess with sliders, but for some reason, this game just felt off a little bit. Didn't have that '07 feel to it. So I tried your sliders since you are the king of them and must say I am pleasanty surprised that I liked them.

The only changes that I made to them were:

                      Pitch Command: -5

                      Pitch Speed: default

I lowered pitch command because of the fact that I use meter pitching and with it at -10, any pitch that wasn't perfect seemed a bit exaggerated. I played a 10 inning game against the Giants and not only did I not strikeout anyone, I didn't walk anyone. Every pitch seems to somehow find the plate. I walked more batters with pitch command at default than a -10.

Also, I moved pitch speed to default because I have finally given up on guess pitch. I have played 2 games without it and I must say, this is the way to play the game. The pitcher/batter matchups were amazing with GP on. They are legendary with GP off. With guess pitch if a pitcher had a dominant fastball, I would guess it in crucial situations and easily react to anything else. Can't do that with GP off. Well you can, but you actually have to see & recognize the pitch before you can take an educated swing at it. So, I lowered pitch speed since I am still in the learning of how to not only recognize pitches, but react quickly to them. As I get the feel, I slowly raise the pitch speed back up until I find it challenging. Trust me, default is a challenge enough, as I struck out 16 times in my last game against the Giants.

Thanks for your hard work with the sliders and I can't speak for anyone else, but for this ol'boy, they are greatly, greatly, appreciated.

Now off to get revenge on the Giants.

Countryboy, I also use meter pitching and find -5 to be a good setting right now. I am also using default speed. Fastballs still are fast from flame throwers for me, but I can pull the ball if I am sitting on one.

I use Guess Pitch NO FEEDBACK. This is nice because you don't have to use Guess Pitch if you don't want to. I normally never use it, but if the game is on the line, and it is a 3-0 or 3-1 count, I like the option of guessing a fastball is coming, and still using the x button and not the power swing (I never use this swing as I get too many weak grounders if I am in the wrong hit zone).

No Feedback is nice because, you can guess pitch and/or location, but you won't know what pitch is coming.

I am very glad that they are working for you! I take it as a big compliment that a non slider guy is going to use them for the long haul! You were basically a default only player, correct?

Yes I was. I would adjust the pitch count slider and maybe one or two sliders if I felt it was really necessary. This year I adjusted the error freq. for IF/OF and this year and last adjusted the in-game injury slider, but that was it. I may have messed with sliders once or twice but always went back to default. But after playing with your sliders for the past few games, I can't go back to default. They make the game 10 times better.

                            Thanks again.
