Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

15 games into my season and i finally figured out that to be able to win consistantly with my A's is that i have to start with small ball get the pitcher off his game and then just chop him down. i just finished my first series with Seattle and beat them 8-1 and 8-2. if it i wasnt for me playing small ball (Very unreal real A's like) i doubt i score the runs i did in either game.

I dont know if it is your sliders or just me but im a very patient hitter for the most part and can and often have this season taken starters for the cpu up and over the 90-100 pitch mark consistantly. just depends on how well they are pitching and if htey are throwing a great deal of pitches in "my zone".

right now after my mini 2 game win streak to start my current home stand im just 3 games under .500 at 7-10. just 3.0 gmes back of the angels in the west. i have yet to play either Texas or Anaheim yet, but will before the month is over. should be a fun ending to my month. see if i can take on the two big dogs of the division and survive.

i will continue to do my small ball approach to get the offense started.

nem once again you have out done yourself on the slider set... keep up teh great work my friend

Hey guys, I was destroying default getting 8-10 runs and 15-18 hits, so i been playing with these. My offense is "right on" 4-6 Runs, 8-10 Hits (using Rays). I need help with my D, I have been getting pounded by the O's. They hit EVERYTHING hard, so my question is this, if I leave everything the same except change CPU HQ to default instead of +8 will that mess any other sliders up? Anyone tried this? Much appreciated, I am so close to starting my season, just was curious about this first.

You can turn the hit quality down. With the latest patch and roster update, the cpu seems a little more livelier. At some point I will be posting a few adjustments and the HQ will be coming down.

Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

Thanks Nem! First game of season with HQ at 0 instead of +8 for CPU and everything else the same.

            TB (ME) 3 10 0
            BAL 4 9 1

3 BB each team, they didnt hit the ball nearly as hard but were effective! Great game (I know its only one) but its a BIG difference from +8 to 0. Only complaint is i lost Kazmir for 1-2 months, GREAT! ha

              Nemesis,

Can you weight in on the so called walks issue many on this board are concerned about?

First off, I don't think there is a walk issue. Most people can draw 2-3 walks per game with little or no tweaking to cpu pitch sliders.

My frustration is a "walks opportunity" issue not the # of walks. For example, when the cpu's confidence is low or stamina is very low, it doesn't seem to result in more walks.
2007 was easier but the offset were too many hittable strikes that led to 15-18 hit attacks.

2008 seems to have tightened this up somewhat as the cpu does battle much better when its in trouble and can work out of jams better. The offset is less walks compared to 2007.

I'm sure your sliders reflect whatever knowledge you have regarding more walks but as an example, you have pitch strike % -2. This indicates to me that you have little confidence that this slider can alter the game towards more walks.

I do get some 6 walk games and alot of 2 walk games with these sliders but I simply do not see enough walks vs. pitchers that have less command of the strike zone. AI is much improved as the AI will go for the strikeout before it throws ball 4.

Are we overstating the walks issue in your opinion? Is it simply the way the game is programmed and we should move on and simply play the game?

I've always maintained, you can't have good boxscores without walks. So my entire tweaking process is to get there.

Thanks for your thoughts on this...

Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

Yes, I can tell the CPU bats have awaken with this latest patch. I just played my first "post-patch" game with Nem's sliders with only the following changes: CPU HQ at 0 (instead of +8) and HUMAN PITCH COMMAND at -5 (instead of -10). I made these changes after reading the boards about the patch's adjustments.

First game, I got pounded by the Blue Jays. They hammered Wang all game long; I gave up 7 runs (6 earned) in 5 IP. Pre-patch, Wang was a real dominant pitcher for me. After throwing 40 pitches, only about 7 were for balls. I'm probably going to go back to -10 for HUMAN PITCH COMMAND, as the reason I was pounded so bad (even at default CPU HQ) was I was around the plate too much, even when I tried to nibble.

I thought errors might be too high, now (granted it's just one game). There was three total errors in the first four innings. A-Rod had a grounder go through his legs. First time I saw an error commited in that fashion. They've all either been bobbles or overthrows until now. Maybe that was a patch fix, who knows??

I really think that this is as good as we are going to get it. Some of the things were are seeing have to do with under the hood adjustments that we do not have access to. The cpu still will throw two perfect strikes after just throwing three straight balls. To me that is programming.

If each team is getting 3 walks a game, then things are in line with the MLB and that is fine with me.

Hit quality can definitely come down after this patch and roster update. As far as errors go, I would see if it was a trend before changing anything.

No, I'm not changing anything re: errors. HQ will come down, though. Your sliders are great, then this patch comes out and AAAUUUGHHH!!! I'm hopefully going to start my official franchise tonight. I'll be using your sliders (with some tweaks to CPU HQ). If I have to, I'll make adjustments in-season (something I don't like to do).

If you come up with some new sliders with this patch, by all means post 'em. My heightened enjoyment of this game depends on it. (No pressure, though)

After I first DL'd the patch today, just for the heck of it I started an exhibition game an All-Star with default sliders, just to get a feel for it (Yanks at M's). First batter of the game (Damon) walked on four straight pitches from Bedard! I think I had seen that ONCE pre-patch. It was a competitive game, I was up 2-0 in the 6th before turning it off (family outing).

Damon also hit a triple in the game. But it was actually just a run-of-the-mill single to left that Ibanez (the CPU) slowed down for (or took an odd angle or something) and it rolled past him and to the wall. I thought they'd score it an error, but they scored it a triple. I know I read somewhere you felt OF play was different, and I think I may agree.

Toad, Nems sliders are still working great postpatch. Keep everything the same except move CPU HQ to 0 instead of +8. I'm getting all kinds of games (Lost 9-4 gave up 12 hits, next game pitched a 2 hit shutout, these games and sliders are perfect for me)

Are the sliders in the first post the most updated sliders in this thread? I ask because I see the last time the post was updated was back in March. If not, where are the most up-to-date sliders located at?

                            Thanks alot in advance!
