Re: Blzer's All-Star Sliders and Settings

    Hey Blzr, good work man...

First off, I was really excited when I read all your preference settings because you play exactly how I like to play (whereas in other slider sets, I didn't agree with the basic settings). So right off the bat I love you! haha, jk about the love part

As for the actual sliders, I'm still playing on default All-Star, simply because I want to play a full month of games before tweaking...but I've been taking mental notes each game from seeing what is occuring, and so far I basically agree with all your recommendations and slider tweaks. There is so much variety with each game that it's hard to tweak the sliders exact without trying each change for multiple games, but it seems like we're on the same page.

I have a quick question, don't think it's a slider one...but has anybody figured out how to tone down "flashy" plays on defense? Is there even a slider for this? The CPU has been making a little too many flashy plays on D....lots of nice diving stops in the infield, even weak guys have cannon arms when it comes to bang bang plays, and I personally HATE that SS animation where they slide on their bottom and in one smooth motion scarf up the grounder, get back on their feet and gun me down!

Re: Blzer's All-Star Sliders and Settings

Boy I have to give it to you Blzer, your sliders play extremely well.

I do have a couple questions regarding 2 issues I have..

      1. When I was fooling around with sliders a week or so ago, I put the power slider for USER and CPU all the way down to zero and I was still seeing bombs hit for both myself and the CPU. What is your reasoning for increasing the power slider? To help with balls in the gap and down the lines?

      2. Passed balls... I read that the pitch consistency slider helps with wild pitches, passed balls, etc. I dont know about you, but I think passed balls are a bit out of hand.. especially with breaking pitches.. seems like if you put any "umph" on a breaking pitch, its in the dirt. Anyhow, do you feel the same way? And if so, do you think its worth a shot raising the pitch consistency slider to the max and see how it affects things? Maybe it will make pitchers to accurate, I dont know.

Just wondering what your opinions are... great sliders though, having fun games. Thanks

Well, truth is I'm not seeing the same number of bombs when it's all the way down.

Were you still seeing shots in the gap like that, though?

I wish there were actually a slider for the catcher to be a better blocker in the dirt. The amount of pitches that run off are pretty decent in my book, I don't know what you think. I don't like the number of wild pitches no, but the catcher should be better than he is IMO. I don't want to raise it too high because then I'd be corner-biting all day, but I see where you're going.

Thanks for your input nonetheless. I'll be gone all day starting in... maybe 5 minutes... so I really can't do anything with my sliders today.

Yeah man, there's no real slider for that nor do I think there's an attribute that will adjust something like that. You're right though... way too flashy at times. Sorry, don't know how to tweak it.

I tried adjusting only the "global" sliders, and left the user/cpu ones at default, and I still got a sweet game just now. Actually, I also changed the CPU strike frequency to 0 (-5). I think that is key to getting better games because at default almost everything they throw is a strike and doesn't give you the opportunity to wait for your pitch.

I also like strike frequency at zero.

The problem is that when I do that, I find it very hard to strike out. The CPU doesn't pound the strike zone enough, so there are very few 0-2 or 1-2 counts. As such, most strikeouts are 6-7 pitch AB's which is quite unrealistic. However, with strike frequency at 1, they just destroy the zone and its tough to draw walks.

I turned timing down to 0 and fouls down to 3 and it seems to have helped a bit.

Gave these a go just a couple of hours ago and i like them.... had to stick with the catcher cam for both pitching and hitting. I lost to the Marlins as the Rockies 8-3. I have to get down pitching without the cursor, and not strike out as much but so far i like the challenge. Here are some of the stats...

Hey Blzer I tried your sliders using (swing only) and loved them

The only things I changed were the error sliders back to default.... I have never had a problem with lack of errors and I think they occur at a realistic rate IMO

I also changed CPU strike frequency back to (5)... I just like the satisfaction of knowing that there facing me at there natural abillity..... plus now with pitch speed lowered and fouls raised I can now battle pitchers at times before eventually striking out

....I battled to three 3-2 counts and also had an amazing 9 pitch AB against peavy... he still K'ed me 11 times but I made him throw 98 pitches in 6.2 innings ...I could never do that before with default sliders

Also with strike frequency at -5 and even -4 they were throwing too many pitches an inning and it seemed very unrealistic

Lowe threw 88 pitches in 5.1 innings and 39 of them were balls

I think with these adjustments I made that I'm ready for a real season

                    Thanks Blzer

Yeah man, I'm going to look at the Strike Frequency some more. Like I showed, there were CPU vs CPU games with way too many balls thrown. I guess it all depends on how many pitches you end up swinging at yourself so that's what matters most, but if you guys can find the best number for CPU vs CPU, maybe we can find the best one for ourselves in the same way if we're patient enough hitters.

                      And sure thing!

Just for the record.....The only reason I raised CPU strike frequency back up to (5) was simply a personal choice....

I just couldn't take any pride facing pitchers that were handicapped from there natural ability......but that's just me

Honestly a lot of people will probably benefit from the CPU strike frequency being lowered a little

I would suggest that people at least try CPU strike frequency back at default with your other slider adjustments and see what they think

I'm loving being able to battle a pitcher occasionally into deep counts and still striking out at a realistic rate......It's the perfect blend

I could certainly see what you mean since Strike Frequency only pertains to early in the counts, the lower this number and the earlier in the count the CPU throws balls, but it doesnt necessarily effect their overall ability to throw balls, just effects that first pitch of each at bat. Ive got this at 1 right now and am tempted to raise it as well since it seems like any pitcher who isnt a complete stud, ie. Peavy, Webb, Haren, Santana etc, is always falling behind on 90% of the hitters they face and in turn their pitch counts are about 50/50 balls to strike ratio which seems wrong to me. Anyone know what the normal ball to strike ratio is in a MLB game? I would imagine its closer to 60/40 but I could be wrong.

Gotcha. I haven't really tried other pitchers than studs, so I should look into the Strike Frequency a little more, especially since I've changed the foul ball slider since then.

I'll try it around 3 and see what my numbers look like. Thanks again.

I would be curious to hear what you see when bumping it to 3. Peavy killed me, partly because it was my first time playing this game but he was also pounding the strike zone with regularity but when I faced Jon Garland/Doug Davis they both seemed to start 90% of the batters faced with a ball so I was always hitting ahead in the count.
