Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
Well played another, again against the Mets and won the game 3-2. I merely tapped the button the entire game, it was King Felix against Thor. He was difficult to time and I struggled but got to him thanks to Jarrod Dyson going 4/4 and stealing a couple bags in the process. Back to the pitching though. King Felix turned in his best performance in awhile throwing 6.0 innings and only giving up 2 runs. Here are my pitching stats since moving to tapping the button only....
24 IP, 22 Hits, 5 ER, 18 K's, 5 BB's (1.88 ERA, 6.75 K/9, 8.25 H/9)
I should mention I forgot that I had raised control & consistency to 6/6 so those 24 IP were all done on a 6/6 setup. The thing is guys still missed their spots and by wide margins at times so not sure 6/6 made them too accurate. On top of that the Mets are ranked 24th in contact and are 23rd in average so their offense isn't the best at hitting for average as it is. I'll probably go back to 5/5 at some point and see what the results are like, should have assumed my results were too good lol but again the Mets aren't capable of hitting for average much so maybe going to 5/5 wouldn't make much of a difference in the end other then walking a few more guys potentially. I was on 6/6 when Smyly had a complete meltdown in the opening game of the series but I was also not tapping the button and was pitching as I always did before so at least I know 6/6 isn't a big issue.
What do you have control & consistency at anyways? Is it like the OP and 5/5 or did you change it?Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
I've got it set at 5/5 but I just ran into another game where I'm convinced there is no particular method that works best. After having good success for a week or so using the visual cues, just had a complete slugfest, beating the Rays 16-11. I allowed 19 hits, 17 of those coming from the starter and the first guy out of the pen, all within the first 5.1 innings.
I'll also add that tapping, holding, or any other method produces more or less wild pitches. It's just a facet of the game that has never been tuned right. I doubt it ever will as it's been a legacy issue for years.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
For all you guys trying to work out pitching release points there is a mode in Pitching Practice called "Pitch Command Practice". Unfortunately you have to go into "Simulated Game Practice" press options then change mode to get to it. Once in it you get 20 different pitches to aim at a target and can play around with which release point yields the most accurate result. For instance you could do one round each with early, mid and late release. It keeps score so should be fairly easy to get an accurate result. I use it before every game with the starting pitcher (I also double check their control ratings for each pitch) and favour a mid release point so far. This is where I look for a cue in their motion to tell me where that good release point is. It might be when they take the ball from their glove or plant their foot. It's also interesting to note that you can then develope where you are aiming their pitches as well. For instance I aim Lesters cutter(with a control rating of 88!) just inside of where I want it to go and with the consistent release point can pretty much spot it every time. Have fun and don't forget to load up your sliders before you start.Comment

Just to add a little to this strategy of yours, if you're way ahead of a hitter (like 0-2 or 1-2) make sure you aim way out of the zone if you want the hitter to chase something for the strikeout, unless you have a pitcher with a fastball in the mid to high 90's. CPU hitters will protect the plate with 2 strikes. I give up a ton of hits when I'm way ahead in the count because in my head I really want that strikeout.

Next series is Texas who has low contact ratings and an even lower team batting average then NY did, but the series is in Texas so it'll be interesting to see how that goes. Like I said if I go through the rest of my rotation and the CPU feels gutless then I'll put it back at 5/5 and just ride it out from there.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
Sounds like a good idea, I unfortunately just don't have that extra time to devote to doing it before every game. As it stands outside of weekends I can squeeze in 1 game a day and when I say squeeze I mean just that as I have no time to spare once the game ends. I'm happy with the results so far but will continue to see if guys pitch too well at 6/6 and if so then I'll just bump it back down to 5/5 and see how things go. I don't want to over react to the Mets not knocking me around as they have low contact ratings and a low batting average on the season so not out of the question that it could easily have happened. Cody Martin doing as well as he did was a little worrisome but at the same time he gave up hits the Mets just couldn't capitalize on them once they got runners on, again, probably due to their inability to hit for average.

Sometimes, even with the pitch feedback i take an inning or two getting the hang of the good release point, and even that isn´t a guarantee of the correct location sometimes.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
To me, it seems impossible to know the release point´s of pitchers without the feedback. I understand the allure of playing with a TV like presentation, but the pitch release feedback is essential to me. Each pitcher has a different release point and some have a very, very specific point with a very short window for that good release.

We will agree to disagree because I think this mythical release point is all placebo. If this release point exists, then how can tapping the button produce the full gamut of early to late releases with the same pitcher and pitch with no consistency? If this release point existed, then one should see early release consistently when tapping the button, yet that isn't the case at all.S.O.S Crew

However, there is also no denying that if you do not get a good release feedback, the pitch won´t be in the location you selected and if it´s a good release it will (around 90% of the time) be on the location you selected.
So, maybe there is a problem with the feedback response while tapping the button...Comment

There is no denying, that is true and it should be how you say. Tapping the button should only produce the "early" feedback.

Yep and that's why I no longer have the feedback on, clean screen player, and just went back to pitching the way I have every year since 06. It's less aggravating that way. Guys miss their spots, which I'm fine with, so I quit worrying about the mechanics behind it and just play the game. 14 games left in year 1, not counting playoffs.S.O.S Crew

It's so funny. People clamor for simulation.....this game simulates it's sport so damn good. But when people struggle (and in baseball you will fail 70-75% of the time) people freak, blame patches blah blah blah blah.
So much noise.
I am too busy loving this game.
Have fun with it.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 06-13-2017, 01:46 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

I have to really agree with this. I think having the osd with hit/pitch info is more of a annoyance then a helper. With it on, I think you try to think to much getting the feedback as opposed to seeing with your eyes, it was a good or bad pitch. Each pitcher is different with different tendencies. 5 different pitchers with 5 different FB's with 5 different "good" release points... not to mention as the game goes on it changes due to stamina and confidence. Well for me at least, this is what I have noticed.
When I was thinking about calling it quits, I decided I would continue and before every game I play, I just say to myself.... K.I.S.S. Keep it simple stupid. I am becoming a better player by not over analyzing.Really wish sports games played to ratings!
Only thing SIM about sports games now, are the team name and players
CFB 25 The absolute GOAT!!!
MLB 23 FOREVER 20 is better, 23 just for Guardians
Madden get rid of the extras (SS/XF, HFA, media, scenarios, game plan) or turn them down considerably.Comment

I simply look for my pitch. Learn to read the pitch out of the hand.

When you play clean screen...you are simply playing (baseball) and not being aggravated by visual cues that are leading people in the general forum to think the game is nerfed with hitting or pitching..blah blah blah blah blah. It causes so much placebo or twitsted perception. It really does. I realize it can be too difficult for some to play the game without visual aides. But don't let them distract you from the great gameplay.

I think some people would be better suited to having a "competitive" style sort of like Madden is doing this year - it sounds as though those folks would rather have a game where superior stick skills will "beat" ratings. Maybe something for SCEA to think about next year to satisfy that group since other games are adopting that philosophy..
Personally, I never want to play the game like that, though.Comment

Maybe it is indeed an issue with the feedback given, similar to how the PCI doesn't show where your opponent actually swung when playing H2H games. Maybe it's by design, but it makes it difficult to try and master the system when the feedback given is all over the map.
Lastly, I've been told for years more effort causes an extra tick on the fastball, more break on the curve/slider etc yet when tapping I get the same mph on the fastball and what appears to be the same break on the curve/slider so I can't see a difference at all.Comment
