Not to speak for josh but my problem with the reds roster is everybody is like 28-30 years old and not worth keeping, aside from a couple.

Well josh. Judging from what you’ve said (no DH, not a rebuild) I think you have 4-5 teams to pick from
Cardinals, Phillies, brewers, nationals, Cubs

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
A very weak defensive team; very poor contact team overall; mediocre team speed. The team's biggest weakness is up the middle, which is precisely where I start in building my squad. Don't get me wrong, they ARE strong enough to contend; but they really irk me how they go about doing it.
And I totally 'get' that the whole point of franchise mode is to build a team to your liking. But the way the current roster is built; I'm not sure a single player in the nominal starting 8 would survive my re-tooling process if I were to proceed.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
Tried that with KC...I HATE playing AL baseball. I'm not one of those "the DH rule should be abolished in real life" guys but I lose interest when playing with the rule on in-game. I know I can turn it off globally; but that bugs me too.
The Mariners are SO boring to me though. It's just a rebuild. Like, there aren't any decisions to be made other than waiting for prospects to mature. So it is slogging through two seasons of baseball before the storylines really begin to take off.
I'd much prefer a middle-of-the-pack team where I have to make meaningful decisions in year 1.
I think The Cubs would be exactly what you are looking for.
Big decisions to be made on Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo. Pitching staff will need to be worked on. But there are pieces that can keep you in contention or....you can trade away a fee pieces to a contender and go into full rebuild mode.
A team that is at a crossroads, great park to play in, great parks to go on road trips and play in.
Cubs are your team Josh.

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
The Giants are kind of a fading team age-wise; so the key decision point is going to be dictated by how they perform. IRL, they are currently in first place. That keeps up; then do you accent the current roster (potentially giving up a future piece) OR do you just roll with what you have (knowing a future demise is still in the cards)? If you start slow out of the gates, you begin making tough choices on potentially unloading some guys. (I also adore the fact you have to leapfrog the Pads/Dodgers in that division as well)
The Marlins are in the middle of a rebuild (obviously), but they're entering an interesting stage. They have some good veteran pieces to go with the youngsters. They can 100% make a run for a WC berth in year 1 and they can 100% collapse. Those outcomes will drive the decision-making.
Compare that to the Mariners. They're just bad; have virtually nothing of value in the major leagues (sorry...not a Lewis fan) and the minor leaguers (Kelenic, J-Rod) are at least two years away. It's basically just a "grind 324 with a bad team" and then the "fun" begins.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I know they’re doing good now, really good actually..but I wanted to do a Red Sox rebuild after their struggle last year. Gotta get past the surging blue jays, the yanks and the rays who have a top farm system. That would of been fun

Fair points made here. Plus, love those home uni's and of course Wrigley.
But being a Reds fan, I can see why this would not be ideal LOL.
I like the idea of the Rockies. Great ballpark and uniforms. Tough division to play in, but I've always had a soft spot for them. I also think they have quite a bit of money to spend..Arsenal | New York YankeesComment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I've basically narrowed things down to 4 teams (in no particular order) with the following top plus and minus to their candidacy:
Cubs
+ intriguing roster situation with several key players up for free agency
+ a slew of "fun" role players (I love Marisnick and Heyward)
- Boring uniforms with minimal combos (I know...I know...but it's how I feel)
- relatively weak division
Brewers
+ Terrific uniform combos and lots of varying retros
+ Shallow, older roster that can accommodate building on the fly
- Weak division
Giants
+ Effective, but not flashy roster.
+ Plays in a VERY tough division
- too much of a 'blank slate'? Team lacks some personality
Rockies
+ Fairly interesting team build with a key decision point upcoming (Story's deal)
+ Very tough division as they're probably the bottom-feeder long-term
- Do I really want to play 81 games in that ballpark?
- Do I really want to play 81 games in that ballpark? (yes, I purposely typed that twice, lol)Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

My vote would be the Giants/Rockies. Reason being, I like the challenge of a tough division. Essentially you can't take any days off mentally. I'd go Giants just for the stadium and I do like their jerseys.Comment

Whether you're sold on KLew or not, he's good in the game and fun to play with, and we do have some decent pieces. There's a decision to make on Haniger...do you extend him and keep him as a veteran presence, or trade for prospects at the deadline? Ty France is a very good young hitter, who can be 2B or DH moving forward. And in game, Evan White is pretty good even though he can't hit for **** IRL. That's just offense, pitching-wise there are a few decent arms and Marco is fun to pitch with (Jamie Moyer 2.0).
Now....are you going to win this year? Not if you're going for realism, but there are some decisions to make and some fun to be had.Comment

Brewers stadium and uniforms = ew for me.
Giants and Rockies both have lots of money I believe. Giants have some good older players that could be dealt at the DL if you’re (likely not) contending.
