I find that many sports gamers (and I've done this in the past myself) immediately look for "video game solutions" first (like adjusting sliders) vs asking "As a manager/GM, how could I resolve this?".
I'm really at the point with the setup where I feel comfortable in saying, "trust the sliders/setup". If I see things pop-up, my number 1 question will be "what decisions did I make or can I make as a GM/manager that could alter this outcome?".
We obviously have a bit more influence on things since we're playing the role of the players as well. In that game last night, I stretched a 78-ish stamina pitcher to 109 pitches (in 8.1 innings). He was just pitching SO well and our bullpen had been gassed after a 13 inning game earlier in the series. I kept riding him, but my decision will now have consequences (both positive from giving my bullpen a day off and negative because I stretched my pitcher). Having an environment where every decision matters is what I think many of us want in franchise. Sliders are awesome in one sense, but they can be a proverbial 'crutch' as well.
Just to be clear, I'm not "coming after you" or anything; it just spurred my feelings about franchise modes in general that I am incredibly passionate about.
