yeah, at least after the most recent roster update...my pitch counts have gone down a bit. It might just be a the small sample size (I'm talking about 3 games) were I threw about 75 pitches. I'm usually around 85-90.

ive played 2 games with these settings and so far im liking it. my first game, i won 5-3. i had 8 total hits. 2 homeruns, beltran and wright. wrights homer came in the 8th with 1 on to break a 3-3 tie. the cpu hit 3 solo HRs. i was pleased the way the game played out.
the second game i lost 2-0. i had 5 hits but i couldnt string anything together as ednison volquez pitched a really good complete game. pretty good results so far.
my only gripe would be that the CPU pitcher seems to throw too many strikes. they just constantly lay em in there. im also not too sure about the baserunners speeds. it might need to be amped up a bit.METS JETS KNICKS Rangers

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders
Just had a great experience for my season opener. Boston (me) vs Tampa Bay and Beckett goes 9 innings pitched. Total count for Beckett was 97, with 11 hits and 7 strike outs. I caught two batters looking.
What was really fun about this one was Beckett's composure and stamina were both red-lined. The ball cursor in the 9th inning was going bananas, and Throne and Phillips keep talking about how close Beckett is to getting the shutout. Tampa Bay had Upton on first and two out. Next batter doubles, Upton rounds third and I see the H in the runner emblem. then, Upton decides to turn back to third base. He was the tie run. Again, Beckett is exhausted, but manages to ground out the final batter to short.
Final: Red Sox 1, TB 0
Great game.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

I think maybe the curve is real effective. But I use the Braves and Lowe does not have a curve, his sinker is killer. But I have struck out many on fastballs, sinkers, changes. I think using the IE is pretty important.Comment

It was a mix of 2 seamer and curve. I agree though, if your pitcher has a 12/6, you will snag them.Being kind, one to another, never disappoints.Comment

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders
Started my Franchise with the sliders on the 1st page.
I'm the sox. Hits were even about 8 for me and 7 for Rays.. They won 1-0.. Seems I could not get any rallys going.
Second game I won 2-1. Once I started using the left stick I seemed to get more hits off the wall. Screwy thing now is the baserunning mechanics. I just can't get use to them. I use the left stick to tell the guy to go home and he tends to go stop and then head to the base and I'm out.. VERY werid.. Pitching I'm getting use to. You have to move the ball all over the zone. I'm using the catcher suggestions on. I like the mix and locations.
So it seems to be getting better.
1. Hope more offense from Human
2. Better base running mechanics
3. Fielding mechanics need work.
CPU will swing and miss on alot of moving outside pitches... Mixing it up is key..Comment

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders
silverandblack, you don't have to do this every time. Pick & choose your spots. I started a thread in the General Discussion Section about the IE Pitching Feature talking about using it & wasting some pitches to keep the AI off-balance.
If you use this approach you will see a somewhat different experience when Pitching against the AI, then if you don't use IE
I'll second this again. This is VITAL to having good pitch counts and generating strikeouts.
My games take a little longer to play because I usually check the IE of each hitter 3 times per AB. Also, do not throw at the blue zones, but to the edge of the blue zones with pitches the hitter struggles with.
When I get ahead in the count then I look at the hitter's chase zones. Many of my strikeouts have come on fastballs to the chase zone. FBs high and tight and low and in work very well.
I guess the main reason I'm so frustrated with the game is that this part of it is so well done and they are so close to having a great game except for a few absolutely mind boggling things.
On to the sliders. These have been a good base for me. My contact and skill are consistent with Joe's set, but I dropped the power to 50. I'm using the Classic hitting and the LS to influence and I'm seeing many different hit types and the power is there and the results have been pretty realistic.
From a pitching standpoint, since day 1 with the game, I have had AI Pitching Success, Strike Zone, Pitch Zone all set to 0. I've tried different settings with Success anywhere from 75 to 0. The CPU throws strikes and realistic amount of pitches outside of the zone.
I also have pitch speed set at 50. This allows me to get a good read on pitches. Of course I still do strikeout and my battles with CPU pitchers have been pretty good. I tried Pitch Speed at 75 and with the power settings where I have them (lower) the game scores resemble softball games. Pitch speed has a significant effect on how hard balls put into play come off the bat.
Something that has me a bit concerned is that I'm not seeing a noticeable difference between the top pitchers and the average to below average pitchers. Most CPU pitchers throw low and away and it doesn't matter if I'm facing Sabathia or the 5th starter for the Pirates I notice nothing different. It seems that if Ratings Influence is at 100 you would. Any ideas? Are you guys noticing a difference?Comment

Hey Chappy, unless this was a typo, you use the R-stick to tell the guys what base to go to. L-stick is for sliding.

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders
I know sliders are a personal thing and a lot depends on the style of play. I thank you Joe for giving us a good jumping off point to make the game playable. On the hitting side, I'm struggling to score runs and striking out enough on my own. I think I'm only averaging 3-4 strike outs a game for my controlled team. I lowered the contact to 25, but I think I'll try 15/20. Now I upped power to 60 and left hitting success at 40 because the number of hits a game seems reasonable.
After doing this I played my first game and lost 4-2, with seven hits, one a HR and also had my first double too. Now I gave up 15 hits, but I think that's because I need to work on pitching, though the AI doesn't generate much in extra base hits. Lots and lots of singles.
I may have to play with the AI hitting a little because I don't see much power or extra base hits from them. I played a 16 inning 0-0 game before losing 1-0. Lots of singles in that game too.
What are you guys seeing with these sliders for AI hitting?
Thanks again Joe.Comment

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders
played my first game with these sliders and really liked it. I lost to the redsox 4-0. only managed two hits and didn't get those until the 7th inning. A bunt single by bj upton and a line shot from hanley ramirez. (yeah I traded away carl crawford, josh bartlett and troy percival for hanley) sorry he is my favorite baseball player. The 4 runs I gave up were in the first 3 innings and 8 total hits. Gave up a solo shot to mike lowell. But after that kazmir set down the next 15 guys. had like 3 strikeouts and I did notice also the curveball does work really good. Their timing seemed to always be way off. Couldn't put guys away with the fast ball up in the strike zone though.
REally liking the game so far though. The running takes some time to get use to but once you do its not too bad. For me if I have two guys on base I will always have the cursor on the guy behind. Just so if you need to retreat back to first it makes a little easier than getting confused and returning the guy who could be heading home back to third and get into a run down.
Speaking of rundowns those are kinda crazy. I was in one and I just got out of it cause I just kept running back and forth with bj upton and the computer couldn't get me out and I wasn't screwing up with the running. I finally gave up cause it was going like 30 seconds and the computer didn't make a mistakeComment
