Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Fantastic sliders. I'm still getting used to hitting and pitching as I didn't get this game until last month and just started a dynasty. The hit variety is awesome. Also, loving how you can work the count and make the pitcher pay. Last night I had a 3-0 with Soto (Cubs) and waited on a down the pipe fastball, and crushed it out of the park. So realistic.
Just need to get my timing down on a consistent basis and get better at pitching. My team ERA with the Cubs through 12 games is 5.10.
Do achievements get turned off when you adjust sliders in the middle of a dynasty? I know they did last year and was just wondering if that's the case again this year. I'm giving up too many HR's but it's probably me needing to learn how to place pitches better.GT: Herkyalert

Regarding achievement - yeah, you'll get them with adjusted sliders this year. They changed that from last year. So you're good to go there.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
I can honestly say this game is more fun than MVP 2005. Up until now I've never really liked a baseball game like MVP.
These sliders and the patch have changed that.
Love the mix of K's and walks I'm getting from my pitchers. If you don't pay attention to their stamina, or your bullpens, you really get into trouble.
Fantastic ending to a game late last night. Up 12-7 in the 9th and trying to let Sean Marshall work a second inning in a row. He walks the first batter....who then steals 2nd. Then on a full count Marshall gives up a base hit. 12-8 with no outs and a guy on 1st. I then call Carlos Marmol in to nail in down. In usual Marmol fashion he gets one out, and walks the next guy. Runners of 1st and 2nd. Have another full count and get a pop out. Then struck out the final batter on 4 pitches...the last being a low slider that caught the hitter looking.
Pretty much captured a 9th inning with Marmol. I was getting nervous at all the balls late in the game.
Had great hit variety also. Ripped a double down the line with Soriano, and then later had a deep double off the left center wall from Colvin. Pena has already hit a opposite field HR and one to right center.
Never got this feel from MVP.Last edited by Herky; 06-15-2011, 02:20 PM.GT: Herkyalert

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Well I just finished games through June with my Braves, 50 wins!! Just had a great series at Safeco against Seattle. With my ace Hanson (11 wins through june), Hudson, and Jurrgens pitching was hoping for a sweep. First game the bats game out, and Hanson, as he dominated their lineup, had shutout going into 8th. I was unusually patient at the plate and rocked 5 HR's through 7 innings to have a 8-0 lead. That's 5 homers with 4 different players. I wanted CG for hanson, so kept him too long, and they got 3 runs in last 2 innings. My bullpen needed the rest. 2nd game put Jurrgens against their best, and was a pitching duel, I could not hit anything, and their pitcher got a complete game 1 hit(homer by gonzo) 1 run classic, they win 2-1. Than the last game with Hudson on the mound was a back and forth affair, with them getting a walk off homer to win in bottom of ninth, 5-4. So definitely no sweep, but all great games, and different.Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Got beat in the series opener by Colorado in Coors field 13-4.
Won the second game 3-1.
The ball was just jumping that 1st game but the 2nd was another story. Randy Wells had 10 strikeouts in 7 innings. Just felt in the zone with him after a rough outing his last time out. Marmol walked a guy in the 9th but got the save.
2 totally different feels game-wise.
I'm loving even the losses.GT: Herkyalert

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
This is going to sound crazy, but I swear these sliders play differently in a franchise than in pickup MLB Today games. I've played dozens of MLB Today games with these and gotten normal results. Then I hop into Franchise, and CPU batters are drilling shin high sliders on the black for opposite field homers three times a game and my pitchers can't find the zone for squat. Arrgghh!Comment

For ex. If you have a pitcher on the mound with a .300+ BAA it is hard to get through innings without giving up some hits. My franchise started out rotten pitching wise and I am slowly turning it back around. Right now I am 30-36 with the Rockies with a 4.41 era and .287 BAA. It was like 5.50 and .308 BAA 12 gms ago.
If you give of a bunch of hits, I would bet if you check that pitchers BAA it is high. Same thing applies when hitting against the CPU pitchers. I usually take 2 minutes to scout the opposing pitchers BAA and if its low, I usually end up hitting alot of groundballs and flyouts or strikeout alot that game.
It actually is real fun trying to manage your pitchers when they have high ERA's and BAA, lately I have been bringing guys in for 3-4 batters and then getting them out of there clean. Lol, its been working pretty good over the last 10. My best pitcher has a .221 BAA (M.Lindstrom), if I can get him in there around the 7th inning it is usually lights out, at worst a scattered hit or 2.Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
I know I said I wouldn't do this, but I made some subtle changes today (Monday - June 20th).
6 sliders were updated and noted in BOLD / RED
The biggest difference is lowering both user and cpu outfield speed by 5. In baseball you WILL see the occasional ball hit over the head of the outfielder, but I've only seen maybe 2 in the 150 games I've now played. I don't want to raise user batting power, so maybe this will help. I'm hesitant to lower user outfield speed, but want to keep these paralleled to each other. Feedback appreciated!STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
If you look at the MLB(rl) stats today, only 9 teams have a Team batting ave. over .260 and only 2 teams over .270. In my franchise there are like 16 teams over .260 and like 5 or 6 over .270. This same thing happened when I played the show for the last to few years. To many hits and high batting averages for CPU controlled teams.
Other then using 80 Pitch success 70 power and 30 contact everything is else is pretty much the same. I would suggest this sort of adjustment for franchise only if you start raking the CPU pitchers.
It also got to the point to were making errors were few and far between. I suggest 0 throw accuracy, 100, 100 for gather and throw error frequency. I would only use the 100, 100 setting if you have really good defensive guys.Last edited by The Bimmer; 06-20-2011, 07:05 PM.Comment

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Dr mkharsh, first of all phenomenal work. I've played this series on next gen every year and this is as close to sim baseball as I've ever seen. Two problems however that I was hoping you could offer suggestions for. I play as the Pirates, so it's not as if I have much power. But I've tried two separate franchises with them and have hit 2 HR's in 21 games. I might, and I mean MIGHT get 1 double a game. Usually less then 7 hits, which is fantastic if sprinkled in with an occasional solid offensive game, but I haven't had one of those. If I'm down 3-0 it's pretty much game over. Most runs I ever scored was 4. Still my games are usually fairly close, as I control the CPU team, who also shows offensive issues at times. My human record is 1-20. That's how bad my offense is. My SO is normal, I walk frequently. It's just a ton of soft contact that is always either an out or a limp fly ball.
The only adjustments I've tried is to bump human power up one notch, but even that only gave me a marginal benefit. I've tried using the left stick to aim, and also just swinging without aim. Same results.
I'm extremely sim, so by no means do I wan't a hit fest, in fact the opposite, but the occasional 6-7 run game would be nice. Feeling like I'm not out of it down 2-0 would be nice. Also I'm playing with your exact settings. No SZ on, no batters eye, nothing turned on to benefit me. Again sim like.
So Dr, what is your prescription for my illness? I wan't to keep in line as much as I possibly can with what I'm seeing, just a little more offense.Last edited by greekgod09; 06-21-2011, 03:25 PM.Comment

I'll also add that I've got into stretches where I just suck at this game. Last week I played about 6 games where I just forgot how to pitch and was ready to just trade it in. but then a switch flipped and I got back on track.
But see what that does for you... Also, have you plugged in the latest updates on page 1? Small stuff, but I'm trying to nail the "sim" aspect as best as possible.STEELERS INDIANS CELTICS

Re: mkharsh33 MLB 2K11 Sliders: Classic Hitting / Total Control Pitching
Thanks! One suggestion (based upon your personal style of play - and using the Pirates): lower cpu pitch success down one click. I know you don't want to turn it into a hit fest, so this might be the least problematic thing to do.

I will import the new changes today. Further, I think I could just be suffering from the Pirate effect, as I can hit with some power with Garret Jones.Comment

MK, get ready in about a week for some feedback from meYes, I am jumping back on the 2K11 train; I love The Show but need an MLB Today fix for the 2nd half of the baseball season.
You did awesome work with your NBA 2K11 sliders, so I am sure these are solid as well.Currently Playing:
