I believe this article answers that question quite nicely.

I wouldn't exactly say a substantial amount of grand jury testimony and evidence qualifies as here say. If this evidence was solid enough to convict all those who were on trial, I don't see why it wouldn't be enough to legitimately say that Bonds was not on steroids.

From the start Of Bonds carrer up until 98 hit hit a HR every 16 at bats, from the year of 98 until he was hitting a HR every 8 at bats, "nuff said". Not to mention he grew bigger so grosely in 98 and on. He's a cheater and should be banned, what a loser.

You forget that the commisoner has the "best interests of baseball" clause that he could slam down on Bonds. He could suspend him tomorrow... of course Bonds would sue, so that would mean that the commish's office better have everything in order when he does that. Of course they could use the delay to let this blow over, but the problem is if Bonds plays and break's Ruth's mark and then Aaron's mark that's just going to make things worse.

So, in short he can be suspended if the "best interests of baseball" clause is invoked.

Steroids help build muscle and make a player stronger. They also help in shortening recovery time by boosting testosterone. They enhance athletic ability to a point. Steroids don't turn you into an automatic 60-HR hitter overnight, but studies have shown that they are going to help a player recover from injury or fatigue more more quickly than someone who is clean. And that fact alone is going to cause the players stats to improve.

Andro, the steroid Mac was using, could be bought over the counter at a local GM at the time it was a legal steroid. McGwire has admitted to using Andro. Bonds has admitted using the Cream and the Clear, however, Bonds' steroid usage was based on substances that would make the steroids undetectable through drug testing. The rules were in place, the thing is, Bonds found loopholes around it, and the substances he used were designed by BALCO to be undetectable when the drug tests were in place.

I'll say that Bonds is one heck of an athlete but there is no reason to risk your major league career and even your own health as a person by taking something to illegally boost your performance. If his natural baseball skills were extraordinary without using steroids, as seen by his stats prior to 1999, and as stated over and over by Pro-Bondsmen, why would he take them?

It should be interesting to see what the MLBPA does if Selig tries to suspend Bonds. I'm not sure what his official status is, if he isnt a member or just isn't involved with their merchandising deals, etc. Either way, they've had their differences over the years.

unions historically will defend anybody as long as its in their interest, union or not... mostly because it can be used as feature leverage against themselves. My guess is he's a union member but not involved in the merch stuff.

The sad thing about all this is had he not used sterroids, he still would have been one of the best players in the game, and he definitely would have made the HOF. He might not have had as many home runs as he does, but he probably would have played longer and most likely would have easily broken 500, if not 600.

I don't know who is to blame for making this stuff as available and used in the MLB as it is. In fact, I'm fairly sure there's no one person to blame. All I know is it's just sad. It's ruined more than a couple careers already, as well as the reputation of the sport.

People say the home run race brought people back to the parks...meh...I think in the long run it drove people away. Fans started to look at the MLB like some kind of circus, who's only real "act" was hitting the home run. The game of Baseball isn't about the long ball. Perhaps if we had instilled that notion instead of hyping up and feeding the hype of home runs, the sport would be much more popular right now.

Actually w/out the juice his career probably would've been over already. That's another big issue about this. Roids have made him productive longer.
