re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
We've come back because of Dusty Baker?
He's a factor, but I think players like Votto, Cueto, Bailey, and Bruce developing have the biggest impact on why we've come back. Just an overall emphasis on developing the farm system in general.
You say you could manage the Dodgers to success. I think the same could be said of our team. For a team that has been as successful as the Reds the past 4 seasons now, I've never seen so many people dislike the manager. PhantomPain was spot on; Dusty can get us there, but I don't think he can take this club all the way. When the microscope is on him in the playoffs (if we're to make a run), he is going to be exposed nationally.
It's hard to fire a successful manager, but just as players need a change of scenery, this team may need a new voice. Maybe light a fire under their butt.
It appears this team wins a lot of games off raw talent. If we had the little extra grit or attention to detail that some clubs do, I think we could be a few wins better. That could be the difference in a 5 or 7 game playoff series.
I hope they can put it all together. The pieces are there. This team should have expectations of a World Series. They just have to make it happen. That's all there is to it.#WeAreUKComment

Different strokes for different folks.....
But don't get me started on how bad of a game manager Dusty Baker is. Dusty is the guy who can get you there....but he's not the one to get you over the hump. That's why he was ridiculed in San Fran and in Chicago. It's why he is ridiculed in CincyWe've come back because of Dusty Baker?

SpoilerBaker rejected (and still rejects) the on-base percentage statistic, arguing that extra baserunners simply "clog up the bases" unless they can run well.[9] This runs contrary to statistically oriented baseball strategy and has made Baker a frequent target among the sabermetric community.
Additionally, many fans, commentators, and writers blamed his tendency to overuse pitchers and for damaging the careers of Robb Nen, Kerry Wood, Mark Prior and Edinson Volquez, earning him the nickname "Widowmaker." Less dramatic cases include Shawn Estes, Bill Swift, John Burkett, Mark Leiter, and Kirk Rueter. Wood and Prior suffered serious arm injuries following their first full seasons under Baker. Wood and Prior averaged 122 and 126 pitches per start, respectively, in their final six regular-season starts of 2003

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
Lol at Dusty's managing in the 9th.
Heisey walks, doesn't pinch run Hamilton. Bunts Choo to get to Izturis hitting under .200. He gets out and then they intentionally walk Votto and Bruce gets out to end the inning.
They won so the point is moot, but that is asinine. I know Izturis was having a great game before that AB, but he is a sub .200 hitter. You shouldn't bunt one of your best hitters to get to him.Last edited by redsrule; 09-07-2013, 05:10 PM.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
yeah another head scratcher, but Dusty's known for playing vets over rookies (and being a dumb manager!)
150 EFFING STEALS, and the guy batting has close to 100 walks, let Choo work the count and have Hamilton steal smh.
Dusty would make a great AL manager (no he wouldn't, just trying to find a buyer lol)Comment

Nothing wrong with that, just an observation.Last edited by PhantomPain; 09-08-2013, 08:07 AM. Reason: Correction to pinch run instead of pinch hit for Heisey#WeAreUKComment

I understand what you're saying but I have my doubts whether Dusty can win a World Series with the Reds. Maybe he's taken them as far as they can go under his leadership? I don't know. Yeah, the success they've had since he was hired has been great but I want them to get a ring! I know you do too. You have more faith than I do that it will happen with Dusty in charge. I hope you're proven right.MLB: Cincinnati Reds
