Yup. I wasn't 100% sold either way, so I'm okay with staying pat and the returns from the DL being our moves. Specifically Ludwick, though I don't feel comfortable placing our fortunes on him completely.
We are a good team even when we're not playing our best ball; we're a WS contender when we're on. I don't think we've reached the point where we need to blow up our roster to get over the hump. I do want to see us in the NLCS at least, though. Gotta win a playoff series this year!
Homer Bailey has been our stopper this year, hasn't he? I'm so impressed by his turnaround, showing last year was no fluke. Seems to be getting better, more comfortable. I name 2-3 of our starters before him, but he may be the class of the bunch. That's a testament to our staff. I pray that our lineup doesn't squander away this rotation's strength!
Big series against St. Louis. I've seen "cage the Cards" as the rallying call. Pittsburgh may not fade this year, so I'll be content with it being the Cardinals this year.
I'll leave this here, too:

Loved how Joey Votto showed up for this series. Got on base all four times he came to bat and provided all the offense.
Shame no one else showed up for this all important series, including the manager.
I thought the Reds could fight back despite getting down, then I turned the game off when Dusty brought Partch in to be the sacrificial lamb in a game he had given up on.
It's not like it was an important game or anything. Just one of 162. No big deal. That's how Dusty manages every game (even playoff games). Seems like Dusty gives up on more games than any other manager in baseball. This team is on the brink of falling out of playoff contention and here he is conceding a game.Last edited by jasontoddwhitt; 08-03-2013, 12:15 AM.Comment

Broxton threw a simulated game today. He's going to pitch tomorrow for Louisville. If he has no pain, he could be back with the Reds Monday.
Ludwick is hitting .068 at Louisville. Ouch.
Hanigan had a cortisone shot in his hand. In a couple days, he'll try to take batting practice.
No word on Marshall and Cueto.Comment

ESPN is still giving the Reds an 83.6% chance of making the playoffs, but I'm more or less resigned to a Wild Card at this point. The hitting is not deep enough for the Reds to take the division.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

Dusty Baker was unavailable for post game comments.
Hopefully, it was because Walt was giving him a pink slip. Most likely, he hadn't woken up from his nap. He slept for most of the game I believe, especially the sixth inning.
I'm glad one of the players finally came out and said it.

Thank you Sam.
Hopefully, this Cardinals series will spur the Reds much like the beatdown the Cardinals gave the Reds in August of 2010. But I don't know about this bunch. They have acted like they've been going through the motions for two solid months now, much like the 2011 Reds. I have to keep reminding myself that they still have a sizable advantage for the second wildcard spot.Comment

I read earlier the Reds have lost the last 6 series against STL, pathetic. It's weird that how bad this team has been playing they are still 10 over .500 but they need to turn things around fast.Ohio State - Reds - Bengals - Blackhawks - BullsComment

I'm starting to worry that maybe it's our year to collapse. :/
It seems we've been struggling for the last 2 months. Keep saying they'll turn it around, but then we get shelled by the Cards 2 of 3. Still manage to get a big win though... Case in point.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

re: 2014 Cincinnati Reds Thread
The Reds just aren't that great of a baseball team. Rest of season projections have the team going about .500 until the end of the season. The lineup only really has three good offensive players (guys with a wOBA above .320). By comparison the Cardinals have seven such players. The Pirates have five.NFL: Indianapolis Colts (12-6)

It seems to me this year that Jay Bruce is finally coming into his own. I know he has struck out a ton, but I can live with that when he is hitting .275 and is driving in a lot of runs. That's not mentioning his defense either where he is one of the best right fielders in baseball.Cincinnati Reds University of Kentucky Cincinnati Bengals

Believe it or not...Bruce has a higher batting average against lefties this year than righties. And Joey is well....Joey.
And interesting stat about Votto. Votto is on pace to lead the league for a fourth straight year in on base percentage. The only other players to do that....
Barry Bonds
Wade Boggs
Ted Williams
Rogers Hornsby
And yet he catches flack from people because he doesn't drive in runs?Comment

Clogging those bases like a friggin' clown, that Votto fella.LOL
I hate the "must mix up lefty/righty" stance. If a guy can hit either, it doesn't matter! Clearly, for these guys, it doesn't matter. But lets not maximize our offenses potential to appease the Baseball Gods.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers
