Word has it that Xavier's "Baby-faced Assassin" Brad Redford (or Pee Wee, as my dad calls him) tore his ACL in practice on Saturday morning and is done for the season. That's a huge weapon to lose. I've never seen a kid stroke it from 3-point range so easily like him, at least not since a guy like JJ Redick.

Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread
Stud Xavier frosh, Justin Martin, ruled ineligible by the NCAA for the season. Mark Lyons had the exact same problem a couple of years ago. Not sure who to blame for this happening again (XU compliance office, NCAA, HS guidance counselors) but it's rather annoying.
After losing Martin and Redford, Xavier is down to 10 scholarship players, as the article says. Might be a rough season. I wish Crawford had stayed another year.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Good for Alan Major. He seems like he'll be a great coach. I hope Charlotte returns to the level they were at in the late 90's and first half of the 00's. It would be good for the conference.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread
The point guards (Staten and Parker) looked good for the Flyers last night in their preseason game. The defense is shaky, but the offense is going to be much improved over last year's because they actually have playmakers at the point.Comment

Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread
This could potentially be a rough year for Xavier. Lost Saturday night to D-II Bellarmine 63-61. Their front-court was apparently terrible (I didn't see the game) and their top two returning guards were the only ones that did anything. Grant it, only an exhibition game and it's early November. They got off to a slow start last season and made it to the Sweet 16. Never know what could happen. Still, they have a brutal OOC schedule: Butler, @ Miami (OH) - Millett Hall is a tough place to get a win over a rival (trust me), Wake, Florida, Wofford, @ Georgia (in Feb.), @ Cincy. I predicted a 7-12 loss season last year and they finished better than that. I'm going to go with at least 10 losses this season. I hope I'm wrong. Doesn't mean they can't make the tournament. We'll see what kind of a coach Chris Mack is this season.MLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread
Opening weekend for the A-10 teams. Couple of head-scratchers in the list...
Temple 62, Seton Hall 56
Gardner-Webb 78, Charlotte 70 <--CM and Marino, what the heck happened here?
Richmond 79, The Citadel 37
La Salle 82, Columbia 71
Xavier 68, W. Michigan 65 <--Might be a long season for X after what I saw. At least they won.
UMass 77, Rider 67
W. Kentucky 98, St. Joe's 70 <--This was a beatdown. WKU shot lights-out
Brown 69, Fordham 65
Austin Peay 64, SLU 62 <--Not how Majerus wanted to start things off, I imagine
Canisius 80, St. Bona 70 <--Bonnies can't lose these games but Canisius made 3 more FT's than St. Bona even attempted. Always a stat I've seen with teams that won a game.
Dayton 67, Mt. St. Mary's 52
Duquesne 110, Bluefield 67 <--Bluefield???
Charlotte 90, South Carolina St. 81 <--Niners bounce back nicelyMLB: Cincinnati Reds

Re: The Atlantic 10 Thread
Temple looked good on Friday night and might be pretty deep this year. They pretty much dominated Seton Hall on the boards and Khalif Wyatt had a nasty crossover on someone from Seton Hall.
