The Dukes may have sent both Charlotte and Dayton to the NIT. They should finish at least .500 in the A10, nice finish for them.

The good news for UD is at least they get another home game or two from being in the NIT.

When you have terrible point guards, you can't expect to win on the road and UD's point guards are just awful.

Bingo. UD's road record in-conference under Brian Gregory has been pretty pathetic. I might be forgetting someone, but I can't think of a good PG they have had under him, and I don't consider Brian Roberts to have been a PG. I almost feel bad for Juwan Staten. Flyer fans are probably going to expect him to be a miracle-worker next season as a freshman PG. He has incredible potential but the kid is going to need time to grow.

UD has been hurting at the point guard spot since Trent Meachem transferred to Illinois after his freshman year (the Curse of Trent?) several years ago. Gregory has done a good job recruiting wing players and ok with bigs, but his point guards have been very weak.
London Warren would be a great backup PG as a defensive specialist, but his Eric Snow-like shooting abilities make him a huge liability as a starting guard.
Amazingly, yesterday's ESPN Bracketology has UD as one of the last four in as a 12 seed playing Butler.

Dayton @ Temple and X @ SLU are the big early games. Charlotte hosts St. Joe's with Richmond and Rhody off until the weekend.

Hopefully Dayton gets the big win, Xavier wins the tough road game and Charlotte wakes up.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Totally forgot about Meachem. He could play. Well, maybe Staten will make UD fans forget about the past PG's.

I saw the Bracketology yesterday. Was a little shocked to see UD still making it in. Hey, Lunardi is looking at their entire body of work. Whether the committee does that or not will be the question.

Most of the big projections out there are usually pretty good as far as who's in and who's out, but even the best are a complete crapshoot when it comes down to the last 4-6 teams. It is good that big time projections still like Dayton, it's easy to be down on them after last weekend, but they still have a solid resume overall.

Temple beats Dayton 49-41...must have been a really ugly game. Would have been a big win for Dayton, but as long as Temple keeps winning, their seed keeps rising.

X and SLU locked in a close one in the first half. It looks like Charlotte woke up, up by about 30 early in the second half against St. Joe's, hopefully they don't blow it.

X ended up beating SLU 73-71. The officials totally swallowed their whistles in this one, which made the technical foul called on Jamel McLean with about 4 minutes to go all the more bizarre. McLean got an offense rebound, put up a shot that went in, got fouled in the process, it wasn't called, and looks to have said, "Call the foul," to the nearest official when he was running up court. Then he gets T'ed up. That was hist 5th foul and he was done. Had played good defense on Cody Ellis all game and was rebounding well. I went a little crazy. Anyway, I'm glad they won. That SLU team is tough but were out of sorts when Ellis wasn't in the game.

EDIT: The technical called on McLean was apparently because he had been complaining a lot about no calls and the ref had enough. Apparently the college game has NBA rules now.

By the way, I saw some of the most BS acrobatic shots being made in this game, mostly by Xavier. On one of them, Jason Love grabbed a rebound with one hand, while his one arm was locked in with an opponent's, and threw the ball up with the free arm while falling backwards and the ball went in.

It didn't seem like Dayton had or has a good half court game. Temple seemed to be sagging off them and Dayton played right into Temple hands. Dayton played too fast in which I mean they rushed themselves too often on offense playing right into what Temple defense wanted them to do.

UD has too many athletes and not enough basketball players. An extremely disappointing season.

If I were a Dayton fan, I'd be really disappointed too. Lots of high expectations for a veteran team. I thought they'd be a lot better than what they've shown. Heading into the season, I wondered if this team would be better than one of the Keith Waleskowski teams from 6-7 years ago. I agree with you though, lots of good athletes and not enough basketball players.

Rumor has it that Brian Gregory will be the next head coach at DePaul and an unnamed Duke assistant will replace him at UD. I've seen that the strength of this rumor fluctuates between grain-of-salt and actually some truth to it. Might just be wishful thinking by Flyer fans.

At this point isn't Depaul no more than a lateral move for Gregory?
