Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Well, I finally have my first regular season of NBA2K11 in the books, and the end day of the season came with the biggest shock I've ever had in a video game.

The last I'd looked, Rip Hamilton had been 4th in voting (I guess as my team caught up with the others in games played.) I didn't lead the league in scoring, but finished with 13.4ppg, 2.9rpg, 2.9apg, and 0.6 bpg and spg. Shot .495, .893 from the line, but only .300 from 3pt.

So, as the reward points were tallying up, I was happy to see at first that I had someone on the All-Rookie 1st Team, then the All-NBA Third Team. Then I saw I had someone on the 1st team, and I was excited! Then I got the greatest achievment you can get. "Coach the MVP."

He really did deserve it, as I finished 20-9, tied for 1st in my conference. He was consistent, and he was clutch, the rock that my time clung to throughout the season. I actually have not left the awards screen yet - as its Orlando and I at 20-9 and I have beat them head-to-head, I may have won the conference, but I don't think so as I believe there are reward points for best overall record in conference.

Wall won Rookie of the Year with 10.6, 1.4, 2.4, 1.0, and 0.2 respectively. Shot .530/.787/.417. Dwight was DPOY averaging 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals per game with 7.3 boards.

Most Improved was Terrence Williams with the Nuggets. Put up 8.3, 4.2, 2.8.

I see now that Boston won their game to also go 20-9, and they did beat me head-to-head, so I'm sure I didn't win the conference. I saw this because I see that Doc Rivers coaching the Celtics to 20-9 is much better than the Pistons going 20-9 for Coach of the Year, right? I got hoseddddddd... Odom won the 6th man of the year, but since the deadline passed he's been doing nothing but bitch that he wants out of LA.

    All-NBA 1st Team

    G - Rip Hamilton - Pistons
    G - Tyreke Evans - Kings
    F - LeBron James - Heat
    F - Paul Gasol - Lakers
    C - Dwight Howard - Magic

For the record, I thought Tyreke would be MVP. He must have had a bad last few games.

    All-NBA 2nd Team

    G - Dwyane Wade - Heat
    G - Manu Ginobili - Spurs
    F - Kevin Durant - Thunder
    F - Danny Granger - Pacers
    C - Tim Duncan - Spurs

    All-NBA Third Team

    G - Rajon Rondo - Celtics
    G - Kobe Bryant - Lakers
    F - Kevin Love - Pistons
    F - Carmelo Anthony - Nuggets
    C - Chris Kaman - Clippers

All Defensive 1: Wade, Rondo, J-Smoove, Tyrus Thomas, Dwight
All Defensive 2: Ginobili, Paul, AK-47, Wilson Chandler, Bogut

All Rookie 1: Wall, Monroe, Turner, Griffin, Wesley Johnson
All Rookie 2: Cousins, Favors, Milos Teodosic, Paul George, Xavier Henry

    Playoff Matchups - East

    1. Boston vs. 8. Milwaukee
    2. Detroit vs. 7. Chicago
    3. Orlando vs. 6. Atlanta
    4. New York vs. 5. Miami

    Playoff Matchups - West

    1. Oklahoma City v. 8. Dallas
    2. San Antonio v. 7. Portland
    3. LA Clippers v. 6. Sacramento
    4. Utah v. 5. LA Lakers

Even though I overachieved, I didn't knock out any "expected" teams like Boston, Miami, or Orlando, they are all still up there. Chicago took the biggest hit I'd say. The Clippers are the surprise out West, along with the Kings.

Tyreke led the league in scoring with 15.5ppg.
Howard led the league in rebounding with 7.3rpg.
Stuckey led the league in assists with 6.2 (Rondo had 6.1)
Ginobili was the top thief with 1.7spg.
Bogut led the block party with 1.5bpg.

Some notable trades were Most Improved Player Terrence Williams going to the Nuggets for Afflalo and a '12 1st rounder. Bibby went to New Orleans for Belinelli and Jason Smith. Hornets also pick up a 2nd rounder, which is good because Bibby was already crying. Al Harrington went to Sacramento for Casspi and a 2nd. Toney Douglas went to the Spurs for James Anderson. D.J. Augustin and DeSagana Diop went to Houston for Chuck Hayes and Jared Jeffries.

Nets also traded Farmar and Kris Humphries to the Pacers for Hansbrough and Posey. Pacers picked up Telfair and a 2nd rounder from Minnesota for Dahntay Jones.

Few other trades, but nothing else really notable.

Now that I see the final stat line for Tyreke, it must be because the Pistons overachieved that Rip won the MVP, he was far worse statistically. Nice that the game can see a team put on the back of one player like that though, and Rip really did do it all for me! Thanks for reading, update after the 1st series!
I'm just an old guy sports gamer...

      Miller - 11.4 PPG 3 RPG
      Jones - 5.6 PPG
      Chalmers - 4.4 PPG 5 APG

The Miami Heat are off to a uneven start to their drive for the #1 seed. Coming off the All-Star break the Heat blew out the Kings at home but then went to Chicago and were blown off the floor losing by 23 to the upstart Bulls. Lebron James had his worst game of the season scoring only 8 points in 24 uninspired foul filled minutes. Big Z also sustained an ankle injury that he could play through but the Heat will sit him till he is 100% and rotate Anthony, Dampier and Howard at center.

The Heat then came home for a 3 game home stand vs the Wizards, Knicks and Magic. The Wizards led by rookie sensation John Wall raced out to a 15 point first quarter lead. But in the second quarter Dwayne Wade had enough and led a furious charge to tie the game. Wade ended the quarter with 15 points. However with a little over 5 seconds left in the half the Wizards inbounded the ball from full court and john Wall raced to just beyong half court and launched a shot that went off the backboard an in at the buzzer! The American Airlines Arena was stunned. The Heat though gained control of this game in the second half and ended up winning by 10. Lebron James again struggled with 14 points and found himself in the midst of his first slump.

The Knicks came into Miami looking to make a statement. The Heat countered racing to a huge 16 point 1st quarter lead. It looked as though a blow out was in the making. The Knicks chipped away and closed to within 10 points led by Zach Randolph and PG Raymond Felton. Amare Stoudemire was really having a tough go in the first half as the Heat inserted Udonis Haslem as his primary defender when Amare was at center. The Knicks countered in the 2nd half by having Amare matched up with Bosh in the 3rd quarter and coach Eric Spolstra also let his bench get some real minutes in the 3rd. It was a fatal mistake as the lead was shrunk to 4 points goin into the 4th. Lebron was having a big game emerging from his 2 game slumber and willing his team forward as Dwayne Wade was now struggling to find his mid range jumper. The Knicks were clogging the paint big time in the second half and also adjusted to the pick and roll of Lebron and Wade who found each other for numerouds layups and dunks in the first half. Not so in the second. The Heat were out of rhythm and flusterd. Gallnari hit some monster shots and the Knicks took the lead with 4 minutes to go 70-69 anf then on a furious 16-5 run to put the nail in the Heats coffin.

      Final score

      Knicks 89

      Heat 79

A huge win for the Knicks and a major letdown for Miami.

Tonight the Heat welcome in state rivals The Orlando Magic for the 4th and final game of their regular season series. The Heat now stand 1.5 games behind the Hawks for the number one seed at 39-21.

Rumor has it that the Heat offered a 1 year extension at 470K to SF James Jones with a team option for a second year and was turned down.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

I'd just like to point out how f'in DEEP this game is. For two months now, I've been strictly focused on my Rockets franchise. But now I just started a My Player and I realized how great this mode is so far. But back to the franchise.

I'm 17-19 with the Rockets and I've played all games so far (all-star/10 min quarters/sim 10 min quarters too). I traded Kevin Martin early in the season for Jamal Crawford due to Crawford only having one year left on his contract and the possibility of freeing up some cap room for free agency. I also just traded for Boris Diaw. He seems like he's gonna be a bust though. Right now, Crawford is actually proving to be a beast, and he's averaging 22-23 points a game. I was thinking about signing him to a long term deal but his age is a little worrisome. Yao Ming has COMPLETELY rebounded and is averaging 23 points and 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. He's #1 in the true player value rankings ahead of Lebron and Deron Williams. He's complaining about being in the last year of his deal though and his morale is taking a small hit. Quite honestly, he's a an absolute force but I don't know if he'll get injured for a year again. He hasn't been injured this season once but I need him to get thru this whole season before I give him any multiyear deal. But he gets thru this whole season, he'll demand a lot in free agency. I haven't seen how the game treats free agents yet. Aaron Brooks has been great but he got injured and the offense struggled for a bit with Lowry at the point, he JUST came back from the ankle injury and is now playing a tad hurt still. Budinger is officially my mancrush on my team, I'm gonna lock him up. He's a good defender, a good all-around CLUTCH shooter, and has good size. He could be faster though but I play well with him so we'll see. I definitely think he's young with a ton of potential. I love this game.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

Since this game has legends, I decided to start a franchise that had a classic NBA feel to it by involving legendary players as young players on their current respective teams. After the rosters were changed i made every legendary player 19 years old so that they would have a full career in the league to carry out their rivalries. Another change was to move out any over 75 players that had a legend take their place on the team, so for example after Scottie Pippen joins the Bulls, Luol Deng will be moved to a team that needs a small forward. Anyway here are all the changes below.

Teams that have been changed :

BOS Rondo, Allen, BIRD, MCHALE, PARISH
NYK Felton, STARKS, Chandler, OAKLEY, EWING
CHI Rose, JORDAN, PIPPEN, Boozer, Noah
CLE PRICE, EHLO, NANCE, Hickson, Daugherty
DET THOMAS, DUMARS, RODMAN, LAIMBEER, Wallace
ATL Bibby, Johnson, WILKINS, Smith, MALONE
MIN Payton, Brewer, Johnson, KEMP, Love
POR Miller, Roy, DREXLER, Aldridge, Oden
UTA STOCKTON, HORNACEK, Kirilenko, MALONE, Jefferson
LAL MAGIC, Kobe, WORTHY, Odom, Gasol

            Players with new homes:
Ben Gordon from CHI to NJ
Johnny Flynn from MIN to CHA
Luol Deng from CHI to WAS
Rip Hamilton from DET to DEN
Deron Williams from UTA to SAC
            Stoudemire from NYK to PHO
Ron Artest from LAL to SAC
Tayshun Prince from DET to GOL
Al Horton from ATL to GOL
Luke Ridnour from MIN to MIA

It's going to be an 82 game season, with me playing one game a week with the rest being simmed, meaning i'll play 29 games, mostly against teams with legends. I'll be running with the Pistons.

            Any feedback so far?

People need to play with Roles and Chemistry ON, and trade override OFF. If you do this, while you might think you're "ripping off the CPU" - in most cases you are trading them MORE even though you are getting the "better" player/players.

The association I play, I traded Ben Gordon (3 stars), and Terrico White (3 Stars) for Kevin Love (4 Stars) and Wayne Ellington (1 star).

On its face, everyone says that I raped the CPU, and that "they'd never trade Love." You're right, in real life - they probably wouldn't.

There's a reason. I've posted earlier that I did two different sims to determine if 6 minute quarters and shorter seasons were viable for Hall of Fame players and they were. In both of those associations, I also watched Terrico White as he moved around the league. Once he became a 91 OVR, the second an 88 OVR. Ben Gordon stays an efficient scorer, but I only tracked White because he was younger and I could see more simmed years.

Ellington made it to a cap of 79.

The league starts to look nowhere near the same pretty much immediately anyways, so I urge you fine people to instead PLAY the game instead of worrying so much about what these teams would do in real life. The CPU is ABLE to build winning squads. In my first simulation, a generated player, I believe his name was Randy Shannon (something like that) - was an amazing PF for the Jazz - and they won 4 titles. In that same simulation, Lebron NEVER won a ring, and wound up retiring as a Rocket and going into the Hall ringless.

The point I am trying to make is that if you get into any sort of depth in this game, you've got to get GOOD scouts, rely on what they tell you, and develop teams. I still made this Love trade, and obviously I "love" what he does for my team - but I don't feel good knowing that I gave up what is going to be a solid SG down the line for one who barely gets to starter level.
Oh I know that it was trade finder trade there's a couple of pretty good players that are tooo easy to get such as Aldrige, Love, Bargnani etc

Lost my first All-Star 5 minute quarters Wizards game against the Grizzlies in Memphis, 47-62. That game was pretty frustrating, but I know it's gonna happen, so I didn't make any changes. Came back and beat the Cavaliers in Cleveland 47-45 thanks to a great effort by John Wall. I'm pretty sure he got week 1 player of the week for the East. Josh Howard got injured for 1-2 weeks, but he's able to play and his rating only went down from a 71 to a 63, so I'll let him play the first game and see how he does. Kirk Hinrich and Alonzo Gee are both studs, but I don't know if I like the way they fit. I'd really like to have a lights out shooter as the backup 2 guard and in the future Gee might turn into my backup SF.

Next game is against the Nets in New Jersey and then I think I've got Toronto at home, so I'm glad I've got a fairly easy schedule because the team sucks haha.

Edit: Nets beat me 44-55. **** 4th quarter. Hopefully I can find a way to beat Toronto in Toronto.

Jrue put up 39,4,and 12 in a loss to the Bobcats. Arenas had 10 because I couldn't figure out his shot. Stephenson had 12 off the bench. Brand had 27 and 7.

Miles this move gives me a great wing defender. I then signed Sean Williams who is a nice shot blocker and traded Arenas and Hansborough for Yao Ming and Jared Jeffries (I found this in the trade finder). After all these moves I will have around 40 Million Dollars in capspace this summer.

After all these moves I will have around 40 Million Dollars in capspace this summer.
                        PG-Jrue
                        SG-Lance Stephenson
                        SF-Kirilenko
                        PF-Brand
                        C-Yao
A little off topic, but I saw Sean Williams play for the Texas Legends at a D-League game in Frisco, Texas last night haha. He's skinny as can all get out, but he's a talented player. Just doesn't have an NBA body and is raw on offense.

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

After starting 1 and 3 and losing to Toronto at my home opener 41-57, I knew some changes had to be made. It's only a 29 game season so every game counts.

After looking at options at center in free agency for a backup big who can own the paint, I realized that if I wanted one it was only coming through trade. So my first big trade this season was JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche for Andrea Bargnani. That's right, the great white hope was moving to Washington (lol.) I moved Yi Jianlian to starting PF and Trevor Booker got called up from Dakota to play Yi's former backup role.

One game in and the defense had no idea what to do with a starting lineup full of capable 3 point shooters. Yi Jianlian and Andrea Bargnani do such a great job at spreading the floor that it made John Wall look a lot better in the first game. While Yi's mainly a threat on the outside right now, I was very impressed with Bargnani's midrange game and inside scoring as well as his step back three. Hilton Armstrong is also a capable scorer under the basket and he'll remain my backup center.

I beat Philadelphia 62-51 and as of right now I feel a lot better about the team with Bargnani on it. I doubt I'd be able to beat any major teams in best of 3 or 5, but hopefully I can have a shot at the playoffs.

Well, my overachieving Pistons, and their unexpected MVP Richard Hamilton probably got what they deserved in the first round. Lost 4-2 in Game 6 at Chicago... had a chance to win it late, trying to set up a three-pointer and turned it over and that was it for the season. I am going to go through the rest of the playoffs and let you folks that followed my other posts know what happened, and then probably do the draft and what not in the 2nd post, along with any other anomalies.

                            2nd Round Matchups - EAST

                            1. Boston v. 5. Miami
                            3. Orlando v. 7. Chicago

Miami had the only sweep of the first round, over the Knicks...guess they really needed LeBron after all. Still a great season for the Knicks coming up with a 4 seed.

                            2nd Round Matchups - WEST

                            1. Oklahoma City v. 5. LA Lakers
                            2. San Antonio v. 3. LA Clippers

So, basically - except for my overachievers being 2nd seeds, all the teams that were good during the regular season made it through - no real surprises. Nice rematch for Oklahoma City and the Lakers, and that Boston/Miami series should be great as well. Next post with results!

For those wondering about home-court advantage, looks pretty good through the first 2 games of the Western Side. Both the Clips and the Lakers took both games at the opponent's venue, leaving the Thunder and Spurs in real trouble.

Orlando was the only team to completely hold serve at home, as they won both home games versus Chicago, as Boston took the first game at their place, and then Miami squeaked out a 42-41 victory after losing by ten in the first game, 49-39.

HELPFUL NOTE FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO SCOUT HEAVILY

Make sure you simulate each game of the playoffs one game at a time once you are eliminated, so you do not throw your scouting days out of whack. If you simulate individually - they bring up the scouts being done with their reports at the correct time.

                              END NOTE

The Lakers finished off their sweep of the Thunder at their place, so I guess KD and Westbrook weren't ready to make the leap just yet.

After falling down 3-1 to the upstart Clippers, San Antonio showed that they were not ready to call it a dynasty just yet, and roared back to take it in 7. Miami and Orlando both won in 6 games, so maybe that is all for the Celtics. Will suck for the "video game" next year because who knows what they will do with the roster and if they will be able to compete still.

                              Eastern Conference Finals

                              3. Orlando Magic v. 5. Miami Heat

                              Western Conference Finals

                              2. San Antonio Spurs v. 5. LA Lakers

San Antonio held serve, while it looks like the Big Three may be ready to play for that title in Year One. They start their series by winning the first 2 in Orlando.

The Lakers then also held at their venue, leaving their series 2-2 with San Antonio, while Miami made mincemeat of the Magic, winning at home quickly and efficiently and sweeping Orlando out of the playoffs. The Lakers and Spurs split their next 2 home games, and the Game 7 Western Conference winner leaves us with the final of :

                              NBA Championship

                              5. Miami Heat v. 5. LA Lakers

You can practically hear the real-life pundits drooling. LeBron takes his superfriends in to try to dethrone Kobe, who you know is also drooling at the chance to win his 6th ring, and further solidify his own legacy by beating the "Super Team from South Beach." Lakers have the homecourt by virtue of better regular season record so in the 2-3-2 we'll see the first 2 and the last 2 in LA (if necessary!)

                              Game 1: 62-58 Heat Bosh 18, Wade 13 / Gasol 14, Kobe 13
                              Game 2: 55-44 Lakers Kobe 18, Gasol 13 / Wade 20, James 8
                              Game 3: 60-55 Lakers Kobe 10, Bynum 9 (5 with 7+) / Wade 15, James 13
                              Game 4: 49-46 Lakers Kobe 15, Brown 11 / James 12, Bosh 8
                              Game 5: 43-38 Lakers Kobe 11, Brown 6 (5 with 5+) / Wade 13, James 12

So, Kobe now has his 6th ring, and Miami showed that they were not ready for the size of the Lakers as Bynum and Gasol both had dominant series against the Heat bigs. Bosh did have quality numbers, but he wasn't enough.

For the home court advantage haters, I don't think this proves anything that the away team won 3 to win the title, because it was the Lakers, the game's best team, and there were definitely many moments in these playoffs (as I've shown) where its easy to see the bug has been fixed. The Lakers are just great!

Kobe did NOT win NBA Finals MVP.

                              NBA Finals MVP

                              Pau Gasol (PF) 9.8PPG, 5.7RPG, 1.9APG, 1.0BPG, .528 FG%, .828FT%

Re: How's Your Association Going? (2K11)

In my 2nd season with the Knicks and I was quite fortunate in the 2011 Draft snatching up Nolan Smith, Vernon Macklin & Ibrahima Thomas. Landry Fields would not resign with me so I began the search for a SG. Evan Turner was "Fed-Up" at the 76ers so I traded Kyle Korver & one of my B+ potential rookies for him (trade override ). Should I feel guilty? Is this such an unrealistic trade considering how upset he was in Phili?

Anyway, my starting 5 looks like this:

                                Felton (PG)
                                Turner (SG)
                                Galinari/Chandler (SF)
                                Amar'e (PF)
                                Hibbert 80ovr/ Macklin / Thomas (C)
