When you talk about bugs killing franchise modes, who could forget last year's bug in NBA Live where you could sign ALL free agents for minimum salary. And I paid 50 bucks for that. How did that slip by the testers? Well its easy, QA is a process of communication between the testers and the developers, recommendations and complaints from testers, developes respond and fix things...but obviously every fix can also be a new problem..thus the game should go back to testers etc. In other words, it's a matter that can take some time.
However, management may not see it like that. So you can have conversations like "How far are you? Do you have a working beta of the game?" "Well, yes, but it's not really tested enough, I'd like to keep it in testing for another few weeks." "Hm..well it works doesnt it?" "Yes basically it does but theres certain details.." "What do you mean? Details? Can it be fixed?" "Yes, but we need time." "You have 3 more days to test it, that should be enough, I expect a finished product by then, we cant afford to have the game out after the competition, you understand that? I expect your team to make a serious and sustained effort to reach that goal." "Yes."
