Re: Could Dwight Be Playing Somewhere Else Next Season?

I hope he does sign somewhere else, he's a good player in a terribly run franchise. Oh and to put the cherry on the icing on the top of the cake I hope he makes a 2 hour tv show to tell where he's taking his talents to That'd be funny..

Howard in New Orleans is the greatest possible place for him to be. New Orleans is a great place to live, if he teams up with Paul attendance won't be a problem, and IMO if we can trade for him next year(and we can keep Ariza and Landry) we are the favorite in the West from day one.

I don't think he goes elsewhere next season. ORL will do everything they can to get him to re-sign. Obvisously a quick exit thie year won't help their cause. If anything they might be left in the dust rather than trade him early like D-Will.

Who would NO trade then? Potato chips? They'll be in the position NYK was, trading Okafor, Ariza, Landy, Bellinelli, something like that for Dwight.

Too bad this isn't a video game; where OKC could put a package together of James Hardin, Kendrick Perkins, and a few draft picks, and have Dwight in OKC for the next 5 years.

That aside; if he doesn't resign with Orlando, which I'm beginning to believe he wont(Because they'll get bounced early from the playoffs). I honestly have no idea where he'll end up. The Lakers maybe? Boston?

Hopefully D.West can come back at close to 100%(it's not like his game is based on athletism anyways). A lot depends on the new CBA before you can really say how much movement will take place.

If I'm Otis Smith and D12 says I'm leaving (provided there's no stupid NBA version of a franchise tag) not sure you can find a better deal than D. West/Okafor(provided D.West can recover from his knee injury). D.West gives them a bonafide scorer the offense can go through and Okafor feel the space Dwight will leave at center.

              Starters

              Nelson/Arenas/Turk/West(if healthy)/Okafor

              Bench
              Duhon/Redick/Q.Rich/Bass/Anderson

This is a team that will make noise in the East. Championship team no, but IMO they aren't right now with Howard.

West/Okafor 2012 combined salary is about even with Howard 2012 salary. So if your Orlando your not taking on a huge increase in salary.

Maybe I'm inflating D.West vaule (especially coming off that injury), but an offense can be very effective running through him. The pick & roll with Nelson/West may not be Paul/West but that would be very deadly. Then when you add Okafor. While his offensive game isn't nearly as good as I thought when he was with the Bobcats it's decent. Plus he's a great post defender and above average shot blocker.

Otis Smith would give you dial tone so fast you'd think you were going deaf.

You will never get full vaule for players like Melo, DWill, or D12. I don't really see too many teams putting together a package that will make the Magic FO content while still making Howard happy. Especially if the NBA is looking @ a hardcap in 2012. Most teams would have to break up their core to get Superman.

I don't think most teams will go the Nets route and gamble on their ability to sign Dwight long terms without confirmation.

Maybe, maybe not, but they could certainly do better than a system PF who's coming off of a serious knee injury and is now 30 and a center that cannot do much other than play defense.

All of that for a 3 time defensive POY and a MVP candidate? Like I said, stop it. You're not offering anything close to the value it would take to get Dwight.

The amount of teams that could trade for Dwight is very small. And I think Orlando would rather let his contract run out and have a final shot rather than blowing their final shot so they can stay competitive.

While I agree it's not the greatest deal. I go down the list trying to find a team who can trade vaule and still be a championship caliber team D.Howard would want to sign with.

Personally I am not a fan of letting your franchise player go into free agency. Especially if all indications are pointing towards him leaving. Your not going to receive equal vaule. So I rather make a deal that allows my team to be competitive until we make our next big move. Instead of hoping to get lucky with young talent or even worse getting nothing in return. Playing for a championship team wasn't Melo's concern. He wanted the money and the city. So Denver was able to get pieces that set the Knicks back. I'm not sure Dwight would be ok going to a team that has to deplete their roster to aqcuire him like Melo was.

I don't get how West is a system player? He is one of the most consistent shooting big man in the league. Plus he can muscle most PF and have enough size, strength, and skill to score in the post. Also is a pretty good post defender himself. Right now West biggest concern is his injury not his skillset dude has the game to be an all-star any given season.

It largely depends on the new CBA. If we're looking at a hardcap that in itself will limit where Howard will go.

If David West is a system player, then he's in luck, I'm pretty sure EVERY team has pick and rolls in their systems. Or if not, they could run it easily.
