Lots of people linking McBuckets to Charlotte at #9. Me like.

I'd be very happy with McBuckets, but I'm starting to get the feeling that MKG's days in Charlotte may be numbered and it's concerning me. I really hope I'm wrong on that.

Not saying McDermott is Dirk or anything but I love his style of play and I pray that it translates to the pros. I would love to see a guy with that skill set excel at the next level. I have my reservations.

Agreed. I don't know how well he'll do (especially defensively/rebounding) but I think he can average 10-15 points a game off the bench. He's so well rounded there and can play the 3 or 4 offensively.

i honestly believe mcbuckets should be a top 5 pick. Id actually really like the pick if the c's took him, unless by some odd injury reason embiid is still there.

you might think im nuts but i think he has melo scoring skill-sets. He can flat out put it in the basket form any spot on the court, and he WILL post up 2/3's and beat a 4 off the dribble. hes got 20+ ppg potential for sure

Im guessing mkg moving to the 2 sometime in the next 2 years if they draft douggie?

With Steve Clifford's "You don't play if you can't shoot" philosophy then I'd imagine it means MKG is on the way out, or best case becoming 15-20 minutes a night role player. I'd guess that MKG would start at the 3 for the first little bit with McDermott spelling him and likely closing games. Then eventually Doug would take the starting spot.

I know it's not wise for me to make a decision this way, but I almost want Stauskas over McDermott just for MKG's sake.

I like Stauskas a lot too, but I'm just such a big fan of what McDermott brings to the table. I am concerned about his defense though.

I don't think MKG's days are numbered though. In the Miami series he was the linchpin of our success. I think it just means that they love McDermott's sharpshooting ability, and that Clifford will have to get creative with his lineups and rotations.

ill gladly trade mkg for avery bradley :P

still think its too early to give up on mkg getting a jumper though

look @ kawhi, he couldnt shoot in college but now hes dropping 3's all over

---maybe mcD would be a 4 in charlotte. Not like zeller/mcbob are starting caliber players for a contending team

I think McDermott may end up being a better defender than some think. He tested out as more athletic than I anticipated and his basketball IQ will at least make him a solid team defender. I'd be pretty happy with him at 9.

As for MKG/lineup. I just worry about Clifford's creativity/flexibility with his rotations. I think he's a very good coach, don't get me wrong. But at least in year 1 that was a weakness, so hopefully that changes. I agree that MKG was perhaps our most important player vs Miami. I just don't know if the front office sees it that way.

I can definitely agree with both of those points. I know the front office was big on trying to acquire Harrison Barnes at one point, I wonder if drafting McDermott might influence that at all.

I've already posted essay-long discussions on how I feel about Doug earlier in this thread.. But since his only comparisons seem to be shoot-only white guys, and defense at the next level is his largest concern I'll give a little insight on someone else he sorta reminds me of as a prospect.

Klay Thompson. Obviously it's not a direct comparison, they are different in size and will play different positions.. But in terms of strength vs. weaknesses coming out of college. Klay was looked at as a guy who could score any way you want it, but his biggest concern was is he athletic enough to ever be able to play defense at the next level.

Klay now is a very good perimeter defender, despite not being overly athletic. Doug may or may not become a good or even decent defender.. My point is that for the people who automatically count him out as a defender, it really is just far too early to tell.

Regarding the Celtics and 4's, I don't think they should really worry about it. They're most likely going to move players around a lot from here on out as they rebuild their team, and there's a very high chance that they'll be stuck taking a 4 at #6 and then whatever with their other pick. I think there's a very good chance they eventually trade Sully even if it isn't necessarily for Love.

I think Doug's ceiling is about 17 or 18 points per game as the secondary scorer for a playoff team. Maybe 20 or 21 PPG if he's on a bad team in his prime.

Defensively he'll struggle early on, but I think he'll be serviceable there when it's all said and done.
