Gentry is a great offensive mind, but the problem is that New Orleans needs more help on the defensive side to take that next step towards being a contender...their defensive rating was one of the worst in the league and they don't turn teams over much at all.

Gentry's track record with his former teams was that they were good on the offensive side but not so hot on the defensive end. Hopefully, picking up the pace will help a bit, but Gentry needs to find a great defensive-minded assistant coach for his staff. Someone needs to come up with a good team-defense scheme because they don't have a lot of good individual defenders currently on the roster. I am sure they won't have many problems on the offensive side, but it will be interesting to see how the Pelicans get better on the defensive end.
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of the Gentry hiring. Gentry is kinda meh...he did take the Suns to the WCF in Amare's final year here in Phx but the same thing rang true that did with D'Antoni: great offense but near-bottom defense. But Stoudemire left and they haven't made the playoffs since, though Gentry didn't have a lot to work with once Amare left. But he was here 3 whole seasons and 2 1/2 seasons (taking over for Porter in the beginning and then when he got fired) and only had one solid year so take that for what it's worth.

Side note, that is still one of the darkest days here in PHX when Amare left and officially ended the Nash-Suns era. Wasn't the same without Amare.

So Fred Hoiberg was getting on a plane to Chicago earlier in the day and telling reporters "nothing was final yet" and now the Bulls have called a 2 pm press conference for tomorrow. The dude with the bad heart is coming on, on a five year deal. Five ****ing years for his first damn job.

Brad Stevens' resume is better than Hoiberg's and he hasn't had two heart procedures in the last 10 years and wasn't hired based on being buddies with the GM. Pax and Gar can't get out of here quick enough.

You're asking this question and talking about giving somebody a minute to get going? LOL

Honestly, by the time the season rolls around I'll be right on board giving him a shot and seeing what he brings to the table. As of right now, this stinks because this is a yes man hiring. He's Gar Forman's boy so they've been lusting after this dude over any other potential hire for how long now? I've already lived through one Tim Floyd era, I don't need anything even close to that happening again right now.

Fisher and Kerr both got similar deals, although it was reported at one point that the Warriors did lowball Kerr at first(not sure if that was confirmed true or just a rumor).

Lol, relax man, this Bulls team actually has talent unlike the crap Floyd had to coach. Plus Fred was on those teams so maybe he learned what not to do as a coach from Floyd.

The type of hire Gentry needs for his staff...hopefully, he will leave his tape recorder home this time around.

A disciple of ex-Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau, Erman was the architect of a Golden State Warriors defense that developed into one of the league’s juggernauts. When Erman took over the Golden State defense, he transformed a 26th-ranked unit to 11th in 2012-13, and ultimately third in 2013-14. Erman worked under Thibodeau and later Lawrence Frank with the Boston Celtics as members of coach Doc Rivers’ staff.

Several Golden State players, including Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes, point to Erman's individual work as a key asset to their development.

Erman spent the 2014-15 season on Brad Stevens' staff with the Boston Celtics, where the defense showed significant improvement. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge has been a proponent of Erman's, and brought him back for a second tour in 2014-15 to work under Brad Stevens.

The latest video I saw from the Grantland channel with Jalen Rose had a piece that debunked the Thibs wears his players to the ground theory.

Let's not act like Erman was singlehandedly making the Warriors a top defensive team here. He's a factor, of course, but change of personnel was still the most important thing.
