Why did the Nets chase Allen Crabbe to trade him 2 seasons later?

Prince for this years 17th pick

Next years 1st for dumping Crabbe's contract

Just read a Anthony Davis rumor stating that the Celtics are the likely landing spot with Tatum, Smart, fillers, and at least the 14th pick..

I'm assuming that would give Boston Rozier, Brown, Hayward, Davis, Horford starting for them next season?

A.) Does New Orleans take a trade like that without Brown? Seems far-fetched unless other teams are low balling.

B.) Does Boston give up Tatum knowing that AD may/may not stay after this next year?

C.) How much improvement would we have to see from Rozier, Brown, Hayward for that to even look like a good move for them next season? Because that doesn't quite feel like a team that's coming out of the East.

I saw that as well and my first take was that's a fake story planted by Ainge to drive the price up. It appears like Irving is gone so it just makes no sense to trade for AD when he clearly doesn't want to play for them. I would think Boston would have to throw in the Memphis pick.

The other benefit I see for Boston is they'll have crazy cap space in two years, especially if they trade guys like Rozier and Brown instead of giving them big deals.

So they keep trying and land a big fish in AD, but can quickly reset with another round of big free agents in 2022.

Celtics didn't offer Tatum for Kawhi trade. Do we really trust Ainge? Kyrie leaves, zero chance AD gets traded there.

Hot take? Tatum instead of Brown would make me very happy.

That said, I understands AD is supposed to be some kind of generational talent, and I won’t dispute the high level of skills, but I still want nothing to do with the guy.

Ainge is clearly to stubborn to make the right moves it takes to win a title. Your not going to be able to clearly win every trade and that appears to be what he is trying to do. Its been a few years now so I am sure other GM's are on to the fact that everyone leaves Boston and gets worse. He has had all those young players and draft picks for years and they appear to be over now with Kyrie gone.

I'm assuming this means Kyrie Stays.

I don't think there interested in Rozier returning in any circumstance.

tbh if Kyrie doesn't stay I think they just go young. I'm sure Ainge will still try like Crazy to get AD otherwise but that's the best option.

                        Re: 2019 Offseason Thread

AD never said that he doesn't want to be in Boston. Boston wasn't on his initial wish list but he backed off of that later and said that Boston was never not on his wish list. Even if he did not want to come then that wouldn't stop Ainge if he really wanted him. I mean, it didn't stop him when KG said he didn't want to come to Boston and that worked pretty well.

As far as Kyrie, if Ainge does make the trade for AD then what looks better teaming with KD in Brooklyn or NY or running it back with Boston and AD? The Celtics will get a lot of addition by subtraction by dumping some of their morale issues and hopefully getting an improved Hayward since he's another year removed from his injury. The smart play for Kyrie, in my opinion, would be a 1+1 (Player Option) in Boston to see what AD does next offseason. However, there's no telling with Kyrie, anyone who thinks they know what he's doing now is fooling themselves.

If Kyrie did leave then who knows what the East ends up looking like? Will Kawhi stay in Toronto? Will Milwaukee lose some key players and take a step back? Will NY or Brooklyn be a super team? It's hard to say without knowing how it's all going to shake out but on the surface even a starting lineup of Rozier, Brown, Hayward, AD, Horford should at least be competitive and would most likely be the best team that AD has played on... and in a much weaker (from top to bottom) conference. Then of course, who knows which teams will have cap space next offseason? AD preferred teams may have made other moves. Boston trading for him would be a gamble but a lot of things can change in a year. A season of winning in a city that fills seats night in and night out (both home and away) and limited big market options next season could sway his opinion.

I was also basing it a bit off of this quote from Ainge..

“You guys know I’m a big fan of Terry’s,” Ainge said on Wednesday, per Chris Grenham of NESN. “I don’t always agree with how everybody handles the media, just like they probably don’t agree with how I handle the media and things that I say. We don’t always think alike, that’s what makes the game fun. But I’m a big fan of Terry’s, I think that if Terry was in the right circumstance and the right role, I think he would love playing in Boston, is my opinion. And if not, then I think Terry would let me know that. But Terry and I have a very good relationship, as Terry does with Brad as well.”

And the rumor that broke the other day saying Boston was acting like a team that wasn't planning on having Kyrie.

ahh I didn't see that Terry Quote from Ainge. my thing is personally. It would suck to watch him play basketball for another season.

Yeah I saw that rumor but that guy seems like he just throws stuff at the wall and hope one thing sticks. I don't find him v credible. I put more stock in latest Woj stuff with the Nets.

I do realize the % now is higher him probably leaving but I still think he might stay because....

Who knows what the heck Kyrie is thinking though lol.

The timing off all this is going to be really interesting because Terry seems like he is going to take the offer of the 1st team that plays him + makes him the starter. If Irving decides to let it play out for a little bit then Boston could be in a tight spot unless they just know Irving isn't coming back
