Anytime you get the chance to sign someone that can’t defend, shoot, score, might try 20% of the time and is 36 you gotta get him.

He’s great in the locker room when he’s on LeBron’s team so this is a great signing.

This has gotta be the most interesting roster ever assembled

In terms of just him I think he’s obviously a great fit on that team. We just saw that two years ago. Just having a guy who can make plays for AD is a bonus in itself regardless of what else he can/can’t do. I also like the approach from a roster standpoint compared to last year where they basically decided that having Schroder as the only PG on the entire roster would be good enough.

That said if Westbrook and Nunn are healthy, along with the supplemental ball handling they will likely get from Bron and THT, I’m not sure exactly how much floor time Rondo will see.

I look at this as more of an insurance policy for guys like Ellington and Monk not playing that well. Russ can defend the 2 spot and Nunn played plenty of split guard minutes in Miami with Dragic. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see Rondo get minutes next to those guys on nights that Ellington and Monk aren’t getting it done.

Lakers still have 2 spots open and will likely keep 1 open until the mid-season. Also rumors of Marc maybe not returning with the team so that would be another spot. Seems like an extra “big” and a guy who’s maybe a bit more versatile defensively on the wing than guys like Ariza, Bazemore, Ellington, would be a solid addition.

I know you got the short stick when he was in ATL. A motivated Rondo. Your getting a quality off the bench PG. I think OJ touched on it. AD and him pairing has proven dangerous since their Pelican days.

Let's stop the Rondo can't shoot theme. It's died. Has been hitting for a while now.

There is probably a certain amount of truth in that meme. I bet that Howard had a similar, "I have to go back to the Lakers" moment as well.

                  Slight news:

Nets, DeAndre Jordan are working towards a buyout, per Shams.

Suns are among the contenders interested in Spurs’ Thaddeus Young

Nets, Warriors, Bulls and Clippers are candidates for Paul Milsap’s services.

Why would the Nets buyout Jordan? I saw rumors before the Rondo signing that both Rondo and Jordan were strong buyout candidates to go to the Lakers, I didn’t think the Nets would just be getting rid of DJ like that though. Are they hoping to replace him with Millsap/Love? I would feel like at least having a big defensive presence at the rim in case of Embiid, Giannis, Capela, playoff matchups would make more sense for them.

Tried to attach a future draft pick in prior trades and no one bit. Which I’m surprised because he’s only making $10 Mil for the next 2 years but not surprised because…he’s just a body and not an effective one(for us that is)

The writing was on the wall that he wouldn’t be back next season when he was racking up DNP-CDs over the last few months.

Even with the names you mentioned, he wouldn’t have helped a single bit.

Shams has updated the Ben Simmons situation to a "when not if", Philly has it's eyes on Dame.

I feel that's always been the case. It's always felt like it was Dame or Bust for Philly. Unless it goes terrible in Washington, I see Beal signing an extension next year. I still don't think Dame gets traded, but Blazers still haven't done enough to improve even just last year. I do like the Nance trade, but essentially he is the major move for the team this offseason. Looking at last season's standings and assuming LAL and GSW will be higher than they were last year, I think Portland's ceiling in 7th-9th seed play-in team. I did see another report that Blazers were initially on Lauri but couldn't pull it off.

What makes a Minn or Toronto type deal hard is finding a 3rd team to throw in win-now players. Outside of Russell(which I wouldn't want), only Beasley is the most win now asset. I wouldn't mind a Vanvleet and OG deal, but no way Toronto would be interested in that

I just heard that Philly proposed deal for Harden was Simmons, Thybulle, and two 1sts. Seeing what Rockets ended up with, that was just in spite of Morey leaving for Philly and would've been better off taking that deal. I wasn't as high on Harden then. I remember saying on here that I would rather have someone like Dame than Harden. At that moment, I would've been okay with including Thybulle. But, I do think if Thybulle can be league average from 3pt and develop more off ball, he can be a legit starter on a championship team.

He doesn't have any leverage in the matter since he has 4 years on his deal. Only California team that has any worthwhile assets is Sacramento. I don't see the Dame situation changing, so likely will end up being a 3 team trade.

I feel like Philly should have just traded him instead of asking for a star, plus young pieces, plus like 15 picks. They are at the point now where they basically have to trade him but teams aren't giving up what they would have before all this with him basically forcing his way out. Dude doesn't even want to show up for camp, why overpay for him?

Best case scenario at this point IMO would be De'Aaron Fox swap. Unless Dame is all of a sudden available I don't know what better "win now" guy they could get at a position they need. And the Kings with Haliburton and now Mitchell don't have a huge need for 3 small guards. Ben playing the 3/4 for them would probably be a pretty big boost in all honesty.
