Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Nick Nurse out as Team Canada head coach.
Kings assistant Jordi Fernandez has been named head coach.
Apparently it was a 76ers decision and not Nurse or Team Canada wanting a change.
Funny how one guy who was a fave for Raptors coaching job still wind's up coaching a Canadian team.
He has obvious familiarity with Jamal Murray, let's hope Murray shows up for Canada.Comment

I mean, probably enjoy the offseason? The whole "Dame wants out" was a media creation. Gotta admire that they sticking with it I guessComment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I'm not the only one that thinks Austin Reaves will be this offseason's biggest trap right?
He was a great energy guy for LAL, and some team is going to give him good money thinking he can give 40 minutes of that level of energy in a larger role, and two years from now he'll be included as a salary match in a dump trade.Comment

I think he’s much more than energy. His basketball IQ is off the charts, he was their most efficient scorer in the regular season and only behind Rui in the playoffs. Was their 2nd best playmaker, best 3pt shooter, their number 2 behind Bron in playmaking in the half court. He’s a 3 level scorer. Just barely missed on 50/40/90 club this year. As far as a bigger role, we kinda already watched that. He became a full time starter later in the year, played 36 minutes a night in the playoffs. He was basically tied with Bron for the best on/off splits on the team last year, was tops on the team in the playoffs. And he just has that “it quality” as far as like being vocal and leadership traits. Mic’d up telling AD he’s playing stagnant in playoff games, not many 2nd year guys are doing that. Attacking Steph Curry in game 6. Bron giving up the keys to running the offense to Reaves at various points in games, something he really only did with Kyrie.
17/4/5 in 16 playoff games, their 3rd leading scorer. Averaged 21 against Denver. He was getting better as the playoffs went on.. as far as just his all around play goes, he was probably fairly easily the 3rd best player on a conference finals team. To put it more simply, Lakers are going to match whatever offer he gets and should because they can’t replace him with anything close to value on a league minimum contract or MLE.
I think at some point people will just have to eventually realize dude is just kind of a bucket. He won 3 state championships in HS, averaged 43 a game in the tournament his senior year. Dropped 73 in a HS game, was All-Big 12 his senior year of college, finished like 1ppg behind Cade for leading the Big 12 in scoring, averaged 17 a game in his first NBA playoff run, 21 a game against the champs. He’s really got an *** load of skills, this isn’t a hustle guy Caruso contract situation IMO.
I’ll put it this way, I’ve been watching him since he was like 14. He’s been making me look dumb for a decade. I’m done 2nd guessing him [emoji23]. Ima do the opposite this time. Now watch him regress like crazy next season just for me to be wrong again lol.Comment

I think he’s likely returning to the Lakers anyways. We’ll see how high of an offer sheet other teams are willing to offer when LA likely matches anything that gets thrown out there. Could potentially depress his market a bit.

"The Clippers would save $108M in their projected luxury tax bill if they replaced Eric Gordon's $20.9M contract with a Rookie Minimum level contract.
Eric Gordon currently has $0 GTD.
It becomes Fully GTD tomorrow (6/28)."
I do think they'll waive him. Even with Ballmer's deep pockets, that's a lot to commit to Eric GordonComment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
Yeah and they’ve got him locked into that Arenas provision. There are only a handful of teams that can offer him what his “max” would be in this situation of around 98mm. Was teams like Spurs, OKC, Orlando, Detroit, Houston, maybe a couple more. Basically the teams that have a ton of cap space, which they’d likely want to fill with multiple pieces instead of just 1 guy if that guy isn’t a superstar. I find it hard to see a team offering that 100mm type of deal, but who knows. Some team might just to make the Lakers match lol.
If somebody does Lakers can still match, and only pay him in the 11-12mm rang next season and the one after. Which would be a bargain anyways. Gets weird in years 3-4 when that figure jumps to the mid 30s, but at that point he might actually be a salary dump if it’s post-Bron, post-AD window. Or the Lakers might be fine eating that money for a couple of years to get a new deal if that one still looks like a bad overpay. Regardless it seems like they will match both Reaves and Rui unless a team with cap space decides to spend it all on Rui. He seems like that 12mm MLE type of target, and Lakers would match that for sure. Reaves they are going to match regardless. He has a cap hit of only like 2mm so he’s not really effecting their cap space this off-season, and once signed topped out at that 11-12 range.Comment

He’ll stay in LA, but I just see a souped up Caruso or even a low budget Jordan Poole. Which is perfect for that current Laker roster situation#RespectTheCultureComment

VanVleet to Houston?
I hope Poeltl will sign. If he walks, especially to the Spurs, this would be one of the worst moves in the Masai era, giving up a non top 10 pick for a rental for a team who didn't even make it past the play in.Comment

Re: 2023 Offseason Thread
I can’t lie…a part of me feels like he’s been getting gassed up because of who he plays for and because he’s white, lol. Because we’ve seen other guys like him have postseasons like this and never get gassed up like this. To go from random, undrafted guy to $100 Mil man(EYE know he’s not getting it but the fact that it’s even out there is wild)in the span of a year? He was good but idk about being *this* good, but that’s also off my very limited amount of time watching him(2 months)this season.

Similar thing was said about Caruso and he’s proven to be a solid addition to the Bulls….so ‘souped up Caruso’ may be the ideal outcome, lolComment

From the outside looking in yall trading for Poeltl never made sense with the record at the time. So he is a FA this year?
