I don’t believe so. They fought at a catchweight of 152. Mayweather claims he was willing to fight at 154 but Canelo’s camp brought it up.

BTW, anyone watch Evan Holyfield’s debut. Came out guns blazing for a 16s TKO.
Felt the ref stopped it way too early.

I will have to check it out. I only saw main event on delay because I was at the bar watching the UFC. I heard the fight before the main event was good.

Stoppage was too early but I doubt he makes it another 16 seconds, LOL.

Ryan Garcia looked super impressive and he's quite a character. I see Teofimo Lopez in his future with Lomo way down the road.

I wonder if Andre Ward gets the Canelo-itch to make some serious money?

LOL, the poor kid did look pretty overwhelmed, lol.
It was a premature stoppage, but the ref likely saved him from further damage.

Garcia was awesome. Can't wait to see him again.

I thought of Ward as well. I wonder if he'll pursue the fight, but I guarantee you he'd jump at the chance to fight if DLH reached out to him.
But Alvarez and DLH have to figure Ward beats him handily at either 168 or 175.

BTW, I didn't realize the reason the main event was delayed was because DAZN didn't want to compete with UFC's main event.
Canelo, arguably boxing's biggest and most marketable star, was told to take a seat for a UFC non-title fight.
This speaks volumes about how poorly boxing is run overall.
If boxing had limited weight classes and one belt/per, I don't think UFC has half the popularity it currently holds.
But this sport has always been its worst enemy and as long as greed and corruption exist in the sport, it'll never truly regain the popularity it held in the golden age.

I don't think Ward could get down to 168 at this point in his career.

Style-wise Canelo is not made to order for Ward's inside-hold game and with Andre already approaching 2 1/2 years of inactivity he would probably be as big a dog as Kovalez was.

That Donaire-Inoue fight was worth the DAZN subscription. What a battle.
Inoue looked like he had Donaire ready to go on a few occasions, but Donaire would fire back. He hurt Inoue twice and nearly dropped him.
What a great fight. Inoue is worth the price of admission.
And Donaire? What a warrior. Sure fire HoF fighter.

I was thinking the fight was this weekend. It was on Thursday morning?

I'm surprised Donaire did that well.

The fight technically took place on Friday in Japan, but 05:00 EST over here.
Donaire did well in that he showed a tonne of heart and a great chin. I don't know how he stayed on his feet in a few exchanges. And he was able to hurt Inoue with a few deadly counter left-hooks.
But Inoue was in control for the majority of the fight. One judge had it 114-113, but I felt that was way too close.
I believe one judge had it 116-111 and I thought that was way more accurate.

Inoue's younger brother fought for a belt too. I only caught the main event. I'll have to see if JR has the goods too.

Kovalev now saying that he didn't stand a chance with short training camp and lack of recovery after the yarde fight, but did it for the money.

Even if it's completely honest, I think it's a slim-ball move to publicly say those things. Don't sell a fight and ask people to pay and put trust in you, then turn around and say it was a joke. I hope that mf retires for good.

Even if that's true, it doesn't explain why he didn't sit down on any punches, it's not like you can't hit hard. The whole thing is very strange in retrospect. Krusher with those pitter-patter nothing shots as the bigger stronger guy with a puncher style vs a more boxer style that is lighter and shouldn't hit as hard as your other opponents.

Does anyone here think it's possible the fix was in? No doubt the KO was real, but for a paycheck big enough I'd consider letting someone drop me for real?

The whole thing just seems weirder after the fact.

I'm totally watching Ruiz Joshua 2 though - I really think it will be a great fight but I actually have AJ winning in my mind. KO.

I think he was compromised and weakened for Canelo and I don't begrudge him for cashing out $12 million particularly since he had no other option but to be weakened and compromised.

What was his biggest payday before Canelo? Did he even make $4 million for the TWO Ward fights?
