Oh how times have changed. How long ago was it when guys were desperate to leave WWE for AEW, but the company did this with them? I'm willing to bet that there's even a Tony Khan quote out there saying talent can leave whenever they want, or something close to that. Yep.

Breaking News: Killswitch/Luchasaurus hospitalized with a serious medical condition. The person behind the character, Austin Matelson was found collapsed this past Friday by his fiance and was taken to the hospital. I'm just going to quote the article for what they found.... Get Well Soon Austin!
Upon admission his blood oxygen level was found to be below 80% — dangerously low, considering the normal level is 95% – 100%. Doctors also discovered that Matelson had pneumonia in both lungs and that he was "days away from permanent lung damage." Matelson has been on oxygen since Friday and was reportedly told he would need more than a month to recover, and it could be longer before he's ready to return to the ring. Fightful says they received permission "from those close to" Matelson before reporting on the situation.Comment

Was excited when he went to AEW, and seems like he was one of the early popular guys on the roster from their very first PPV.
Sucks anytime you hear about health issues in wrestling, especially sudden ones like this when we've had things like Brodie and Bray happen within the past few years.Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
Sounds like Dynamite and Collision will stay on TNT/TBS as many assumed.
The news about the new tv deal though is that shows will be simulcast on MAX starting in January.
I haven't read any news on the PPVs, but if those are also on MAX, that would be huge for AEW and fans obviously.Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
I like that. Will likely bring in more viewers, because now the price of entry to watch AEW programming will be $9.99, as opposed to paying for a cable/streaming TV service. Paying $60-$80 a month to watch 1 or 2 shows is a hard ask, and when AEW programming started falling off that's one of the reasons I dipped out.Comment

You don't alienate current viewers on tv while also giving new people a chance to watch, or just current fans a chance to watch for cheaper if they only have TBS/TNT for AEW.
Apparently PPVs are gonna be discounted through MAX. Not as ideal as WWEs model, but I think WWE has spoiled everyone the last decade with their PLE model.Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
I didn't see it, but sounds like at the post Wrestledream presser only 1 person asked Mariah May a question. Everyone else didn't care to bother about asking her anything, but as soon as the guys came up after her suddenly everyone wanted to ask questions.
Lots of people like Bully Ray, Mark Henry among others are all ripping into the "media" who attended.
Just seems stupid on the media's part. You know what these press conferences are, and if you don't care to be there or to talk to every person who might be at the podium, then don't be there.Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
It was kind of a bad look, but the media barely asked any questions to anyone. Plus Mariah May doesn't have much of a story or direction right now beyond just ..she's the champion and is winning a lot. Compared to Toni Storm her character isn't particularly interesting or engaging. I'd blame the company for including her in the scrum more than I'd blame the internet media.
Too bad Mariah isn't as experienced in this capacity to call an audible and try playing that up to her character.Comment

The NFL approved the new $1.4B stadium for the Jacksonville Jaguars that will begin construction after the 2025 NFL Season with it opening in 2028. AEW All In 2028 anyone? Wouldn't be surprised if this is the first major event at that new stadium.Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
Sting is signing a Legends deal with AEW following his retirement earlier this year at Revolution. Sting revealed in an interview that Vince forced him to "retire" in 2016 even though he wasn't ready to retire yet.
I did retire with WWE, but I also said the only thing that’s for sure about Sting is nothing’s for sure. This is just ‘see you later,’ basically. I did leave it open-ended pretty much, I didn’t really want to retire at that time. It was kind of like a mutual deal that I did with WWE at the time. Vince [McMahon] wanted me to retire under his umbrella, and at the time, I was okay with that."Comment

Re: AEW Off-Topic
He has spinal stenosis like Steve Austin and a lot of other wrestlers (including Sheamus and Edge, I believe).
They 'forced' him to retire as precautionary measures so he wouldn't end up permanently paralyzed, etc. He likely had procedures done and was working out to make an in-ring return, but WWE wouldn't allow it in their ring with his 'advanced' age and the high possibility of re-injury.
I'm just happy he got to go out on his terms even if that meant doing a lot of diving spots and reckless BS. I would have to watch the interview but trying to paint it as some anti-WWE nonsense is such low-class dirty sheet crap.
Vince was a POS as a person, but he also learned - through deaths, lawsuits and guys being permanently injured - to be cautious and protect talent at all costs (especially from themselves).

Re: AEW Off-Topic
Update on the Lucha Brothers per Meltzer.... "Penta’s deal was not extended, they didn’t have the right to do that. So he’s gonna be a free agent.
"As far as Fenix, my impression is if guys are going to go to WWE Tony’s not gonna use them. They’re just going to be frozen for a while."
Yikes... not using a guy just because they are heading to WWE is such a Vince move from Tony. No wonder why we haven't seen Ricky Starks.Last edited by UFCMPunk; 10-22-2024, 12:27 PM.Comment
