The Beat Goes On For Cardinals!!!!!
Visiting Cardinals take care of Padres to stretch their win streak to 7 in a row.
Under the bright lights on the road in San Diego, the Cardinals won easily over the Padres, 6-0. Troy Glaus sparked the offense, going 2 for 4 and driving in 2 runs. The winning pitcher was Todd Wellemeyer, who threw 6.1 shutout innings to snare his 4th win of the season.
The series continues under the lights tonight, with Kyle Lohse (3-2, 4.97) going for the Cardinals against Greg Maddux (3-5, 2.83) for the Padres.

Congrats on finally getting out of the ALE cellar. It took a while plus a big losing streak by the Rays to get out but the birds have now flown up to 4th in the ALE.
I checked out where the Orioles were in my franchise with the Reds and you are only one game behind that pace. At the same time in the schedule (5/19) Baltimore was 19-26 in my franchise, 13 1/2 games behind the pinstripers from the Bronx.
I don't know what the Brew Crew was looking for when they traded Hall. Then again, I'm still trying to figure out why the Red Sox traded Jason Varitek to the Marlins for Sanchez in mine.Last edited by doncoryell; 08-07-2008, 07:18 PM.If you can read this, thank a teacher. Yankees pitching puzzles Orioles lineup in game one of AL East showdown!!!!!
Bronx, NY - The O's managed only 2 hits tonight at Yankee Stadium to start their 13 game stretch against AL East opponents. Phil Hughes was phenomenal in a no-decision performance allowing only 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 7 Oriole hitters. The Orioles actually got on the board first in the 4th inning after an error by Derek Jeter got Freddie Bynum aboard. Aubrey Huff would eventually sacrifice him in to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead without recording a hit. The Yankees answered in the bottom of the inning when catcher Jorge Posada, just called up from AAA hit his first home run of the year. The game remained that way until the 8th inning when Hideki Matsui absolutely crushed a Jamie Walker change-up into the upper deck in right field to give the "Bombers" the lead for good. They added one more in the 8th and then Mariano Rivera sealed it in the 9th, getting Aubrey Huff to pop up to Jeter with Bynum at 3rd to end Huff's 14-game hitting streak and the game. On a side note, the "Birds" have lost team leader Luke Scott 1-6 days after spraining his ankle during batting practice.
