Javier Vazquez Can't Hold Lead, Suffers Loss!!!!!

Indians wear down Javier Vazquez, win late.

The Indians were able to put enough runs on the board last night, winning 6-3 over the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field. Grady Sizemore collected 2 hits -- including a home run -- and 3 RBI's in 4 at-bats to spur the offense. In relief of starter Cliff Lee, Aaron Laffey picked up the win (4th of the season), throwing 2.2 innings while striking out 4.

The Indians and White Sox play Game 2 tonight, with C.C. Sabathia (5-2, 3.83) and Gavin Floyd (4-0, 2.55) the probable starters.

Re: Highheat's Orioles (MLB "The Show" '08) Final Attempt!!!!

Quick update to the Pitching House Rules based off of a game I'm experiencing now. I don't feel that I should be punished for reasons beyond my control.

      - If a starter leaves the game due to an injury and starter qualifications are met, I am able to substitute a long reliever in his place and pick up where that starter has left off, picking up the starters statistics for that game.

"Moose" is in season as "Birds" feast on veteran's pitching!!!!!

Bronx, NY - The Orioles came in to tonight's game in New York looking to even things up with the Yankees. They did that behind good hitting and clutch pitching performances. The Orioles jumped on Yankees starter Mike Mussina in the 3rd inning when Freddie Bynum continued to swing a hot bat doubling to the gap in right center field to score Alex Cintron the whole way from first base. Bynum then got to 3rd with 1 out and Melvin Mora would provide fundamental baseball grounding out to 2nd to plate Bynum and give the O's a 2-0 lead. In the 4th, Aubrey Huff took the first pitch of the inning over the wall in right center to push the lead to 3-0. The "Birds" then got a clutch 2-out single by Nick Markakis in the 5th to score Cintron again and extend the lead to 4. Things were cruising along as O's starter Daniel Cabrera allowed only 1 hit through 5 innings, but felt something wrong and had to leave the game after 1 out in the 6th. An MRI after the game was negative and Daniel will not miss any time. Jason Johnson replaced Cabrera and was good until the 7th when he let the "Bombers" back into the game when Jorge Posada homered for the 2nd time in two nights, a 3-run shot just over the wall down the line in left with no outs to make it a 4-3 game. Johnson then pitched through the 7th and once again, it was lights out, as Chad Bradford and George Sherrill cruised through the Yankees 1-6 hitters to give Baltimore the win. The rubber game is tomorrow night before the O's head off to Tampa Bay. On a milestone note, Brian Roberts recorded his 200th career stolen base.

              2000 Hits For Durham!!!!!

Win even sweeter for Ray Durham, who picks up career hit number 2000 in victory.

On paper it may have been a nice match-up, but nobody told the Giants, and in any event paper is fragile and can be burned -- just like Rockies, who got ripped by the Giants 9-2 in front of 42,481 fans at Coors Field last night. The club was helped by Bengie Molina, who drove in 1 run by going 1 for 1. Kevin Correia earned the win, his 2nd of the season, but he wasn't very good, giving up 9 hits in only 5.2 innings, with the bullpen providing four innings of solid relief.

After an off day today, the Giants will be in Florida tomorrow night to begin a series with the Marlins. Jonathan Sanchez (2-4, 4.11) will oppose Josh Johnson (2-0, 5.34) in Game 1. Dan Ortmeier looks to build on his 13-game hitting streak.

Ain't it Grand? Abreu slams Yankees over Baltimore in series finale!!!!!

Bronx, NY - The Yankees took tonight's series finale in the Bronx behind good pitching from starter Ross Ohlendorf and one crushing blow by Bobby Abreu. The Orioles began the night on the scoreboard in the very 1st inning when Aubrey Huff doubled to the gap in left center scoring Nick Markakis from first. That would by the last the Orioles would see the scoreboard light up in the run column for the evening. The Yankees evened the game and then took the lead in the 3rd off of a pair of triples from Johnny Damon and Robinson Cano. The Orioles had an opportunity in the 7th, loading the bases with 2 outs, but Joba Chamberlain got Melvin Mora to bounce out in front of the box to end the inning. Radhames Liz, making his first start for the Orioles this season, pitched strong, going 7.0 IP and allowed only 2 earned runs in his debut, but ended up with the loss. The game got out of hand in the 8th when Bobby Abreu dismantled O's reliever Chris Ray and the Orioles with a crushing, no doubt about, grand slam home run to cap the night. Kyle Farnsworth pitched the 9th as the Yankees keep control of 2nd place in the AL East. The "Birds" are now off to Tampa Bay in hopes of adding to the Rays 6-game losing streak.

This is one reason why I have no house rules. Another reason why you would use a long reliefer is when you are in extra innings and their are not many pitchers available left. Also, if one of the teams is getting blown out and you would like to rest some of your overused pitchers. I personnally consider using a long reliefer up to the 5th inning. Starting in the 6th inning I would try to use my middle relievers first. (You need to remember that the baseball season is a marathon and you would like to keep your middle relievers somewhat fresh as the season goes on.)

Just a thought and nothing against having "house" rules. You just never know what the season will bring.

Thanks man, I appreciate your input. I really enjoy my house rules, as they make the game as realistic as possible for my liking, just sometimes, I come across a scenario that I haven't experienced before and I need to make a decision whether I am at fault or not at fault, and shouldn't have to pay for things that are out of my control. I do exactly what you say above. If a starter makes it to the 6th, then the only way a long reliever enters the game is if the game goes to extra innings or I run out of middle relievers, setup men, and closers. This was just an extra scenario, as I didn't feel like I had to burn my middle relievers for the whole game. They only last a max of 3 innings at tops anyways, so it made sense for me to use one of my two long relievers.

If I do, it won't be for a couple months. I didn't purchase it. I'm going to wait and see what happens with the CPU sliders and patches. Right now, I'm into the Fable II pub games and awaiting on NHL 09. I will be doing a Rangers franchise in that.

Giles Picks Up RBI Number 1000!!!!!

In his team's loss, Brian Giles delivers RBI number 1000.

The Reds picked up a one-run victory on the road last night, with the 4-3 final a disappointment to both the Padres and their 22,742 fans in attendance. Edwin Encarnacion was a catalyst on offense, going 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's. Working 6 innings, Edinson Volquez was able to get his 1st win of the season, as he gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in the victory.

Game 2 is this evening, with Bronson Arroyo (3-2, 5.22) taking the mound for the visiting Reds and Arturo Lopez (2-0, 1.35) getting the nod for the Padres.

Pena and Rays walk off over O's in extra innings!!!!!

Tampa Bay, FL - It was an exciting night at Tropicana Field for Rays fans, as for Orioles' fans, it was another night of head scratching. The O's got out of the gate fast against Rays starter Chris Mason. Aubrey Huff delivered his 8th home run of the season in the first to give the O's the lead and then the Orioles got back to back singles in the 2nd to give Baltimore a commanding 4-0 lead. The Rays fought back and took the lead on a 2-run homerun by B.J. Upton. Baltimore tied it up in the 8th on a single by Ramon Hernandez, but Carlos Pena ended the night in the 10th inning with a walk off home run off of O's reliever Dennis Sarfate. The Rays and O's are now tied for 4th place as they continue their series tomorrow.
