Angels Win Battle Of The Mounds!!!!!

In a terrific pitching display, Angels manage to win.

On the road in Boston, the Angels won a close game, 1-0, in front of 34,315 Red Sox' fans at Fenway Park. Pacing the Angels was John Lackey, who threw 7.2 scoreless innings to garner his 9th win of the season. Closer Francisco Rodriguez shut the door to pick up his 30th save of the season. A key player offensively was Chone Figgins, who picked up a pair of hits in 4 at-bats.

The two teams finish off the series tonight, with Jered Weaver (6-2, 2.24) and Curt Schilling (1-1, 4.38) the scheduled starters.

Bombers live up to their name, crush 5 home runs to give Yankees series!!!!!

New York, NY - The Yankees lived up to their nickname the "Bronx Bombers" this afternoon at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees crushed 5 home runs on the day in rout to a 9-3 pasting of the Orioles. Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi went back-to-back off of Orioles starter Steve Trachsel in the 1st to put the home team up 2-0. The O's came back in the top of the 2nd when red hot Brian Roberts followed a Melvin Mora home run with a single to right field to even the game at 2-2. In the bottom of the 2nd however, Trachsel left the game with a strained shoulder and was put on the 15-day DL after the game, apparently bringing up Jeremy Guthrie for another run in Trachsel's position. With the game tied at 3-3 after a home run by Cano and a double by Brian Robets, the "pinstripes" got a solo shot from Derek Jeter in the 7th off of Jim Johnson, who came in to relieve Trachsel and then blew it open in the 8th, scoring 5 times, capped by a Morgan Ensberg 3-run homer. Justin Speier was able to pick up the win, improving to 3-4 on the season and Kyle Farnsworth worked the 8th and 9th to record the save. The trade deadline is tonight, and we'll see if any Orioles are on the move, before turning the season over for the final two months.

                No Relief For Orioles!!!!!

Orioles bullpen falters as Yankees come back to win.

A Yankee Stadium crowd saw the hometown Yankees get a win over the Orioles, a 9-3 decision that went the Yankees way. Morgan Ensberg slugged a home run and drove in 3 runs, going 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. By the time things were settled, starter Phil Hughes was out of the game, though he did earn a quality start by allowing 3 runs in 6.2 innings of work. Working in relief of Phil Hughes, Justin Speier came into a tie game and vultured his 3rd win of the season, pitching 1 inning and allowing no runs.

The Yankees start a new series in New York tonight, sending Mike Mussina (9-6, 4.58) to the mound against the Angels and Kelvim Escobar (5-4, 3.45).

                      Brewers Earn Tough Win!!!!!

Milwaukee wins nerve-racking game against Chicago.

Playing at home under the lights, the Brewers emerged victorious in a 4-2 win over the Cubs. Providing the offense was Rickie Weeks, who had a pair of solo home runs on the day. Ben Sheets went 6.2 innings to get his 12th win of the season, with the bullpen giving him an assist in the final three innings. Sheets picked up strikeout number 150 on the year.

The Brewers hit the road for 6 straight games, starting this evening in Atlanta, where Dave Bush (5-7, 4.77) and Chuck James (3-2, 4.08) will oppose each other on the mound.

Trade Deadline Becomes All Talk, No Action!!!!!

With the final 1/3 of the season on the horizon, many potential deals and rumors were floating around owner's offices around the league, but no action took place as there was not one deal made. All the division leaders and potential teams attempting to make a run at a wild-card slot seem to be comfortable and have their teams set for a history making run, while all the teams looking on the outside will continue to look at what they have from within in preparation for next year.

Yeah, I was quite shocked as well when I looked at the trade screen. Oh well, I guess it's on with the "Show". I'm kind of glad as I have quite of few free agents coming up and hopefully everything falls in place for me to get some good talent. Only time will tell though.

Orioles fall just a run short as Seattle continues to fight to get back to .500!!!!!

Seattle, WA - The Mariners came into tonight's affair with the Orioles only 4 games removed from the .500 mark. They would get some magnificent pitching in tonight's game to help them propel their way to a 3-2 opening game win in the series against the Orioles. The Mariners got all three of their runs in the 1st inning off of O's starter Garrett Olson. After singles to lead off the inning by Ichiro Suzuki and Michael Morse, Adrian Beltre would ground out to first base to score Suzuki. Jose Vidro would then drive in Morse with a 2-run home run to right with 2 outs to put the Mariners up 3-0 after one inning of play. The Orioles would fight and claw their way back to within a run off of Carlos Silva, who was looking for his 10th win of the year. The O's got RBI singles from Melvin Mora in the 2nd and Kevin Millar in the 4th, but that would be it, as the O's left 5 more runners in scoring position on the night, including Aubrey Huff at 3rd to end the ballgame. J.J. Putz recorded his 26th save by getting Kevin Millar to strikeout and push the Mariners out to a 1-0 series lead. Both teams will do it again tomorrow right back here at Safeco Field.
