I like the format of the off-season stuff. Looks good and nice recruiting class. Too bad some OL left early.

Thanks. The format is mostly the same as The Aub's New York Vipers dynasty from NCAA 07. I really liked the way he did it, because it was simple, yet informative.

Yes, we got a bunch of good recruits coming in. We only got one 5 star recruit, but we got a good deal of 3 and 4 star recruits. Some of them may be lucky enough to see the field next season, though most of them will probably be redshirted.

Yes, in last-gen NCAAs, the offensive linemen always pick up insane amounts of pancakes, so their stats were off the charts, so they left early. I think a couple of them had 60+ pancakes on the season, LOL! I didn't even post their stats on the season-ending stats page because their pancakes were so ridiculous.

        Thanks for following Stewaat!

            2006 Depth Chart/Roster

            Starters in Blue
            Redshirts in Red

            QB
            Adam Bednarik - JR (RS) - 90
            Pat White - SO (RS) - 90
            Dwayne Thompson - JR (RS) - 84
            Lee Jones - FR - 78
            Nate Sowers - FR (RS) - 74

            HB
            Jason Gwanltney - SO - 84
            Pernell Williams - JR - 82
            Erick Phillips - SR (RS) - 80
            Jack Crow - FR (RS) - 78

            FB
            Owen Schmitt - JR (RS) - 99
            Tom Contraguero - SR (RS) - 88

            Backfield Notes
Adam Bednarik is a very solid quarterback who will start for the second straight season this year. Look for him to make more throws this year than last with the departure of Jason Colson. Jason Gwanltney should do well in his first year as a starter, but don't expect him to be quite as good as Colson right now, but in a few years he may break the school record for rushing yards. He's that good. Owen Schmitt is dependable blocker, can run the ball when you need him to, and has great hands as well and could make an impact in the passing game this season.

            WR
            Rayshawn Bolden - SR (RS) - 85
            Joe Hunter - SR - 84
            T.J. Mitchell - FS (RS) - 76
            Mike Poitier - FR (RS) - 74
            Ryan Dawson - SR (RS) - 74
            Travis McClintic - FR (RS) - 70

            TE
            Sam Monroe - FR (RS) - 78
            Brad Palmer - SR (RS) - 76
            Louis Davis - SR (RS) - 74

            Receivers Notes
Mediocre, that is a perfect description of this receiving corps. The departure of Brandon Myles leaves the wide receiver position without a true playmakers. Rayshawn Bolden made a few big plays last season, though, so he could become a threat this season. Joe Hunter is solid as well. Sam Monroe will start at tight end. He has the potential to be great as he is only a freshman. Also, quick note. Our 3rd string tight end Louis Davis is 6'6" and 301 lbs. Talk about a big tight end!

            T
            John Bradshaw - SO (RS) - 85
            Tim Lidsey - SO (RS) - 84
            Greg Islander - JR - 80
            Derrick Hayes - FR - 72
            Jason Edwards - FR - 68
            Lance Mitchell - FR - 65

            G
            Dustin Robinson - FR - 82
            Marlon Waller - FR - 78
            Gabe Summers - FR - 78
            Chris Burns - FR - 78
            Chris Bassler - SO (RS) - 74
            Ray Long - FR - 74
            Justin Mitchell - FR - 70

            C
            Noah Rich - FR - 74
            Brent Galloway - FR - 74
            Joe Gray - FR - 72
            Donny Smith - SR (RS) - 70

            Offensive Line Notes
Young, young, and young. With the departure of every starter last season, the line has tons of inexperience. Luckily, Bill Stewart was able to fill the holes with talented freshmen, but after all, they're still freshmen.

            DE
            Jason Karns - JR (RS) - 80
            Pat Liebig - JR (RS) - 78
            Warren Young - SR (RS) - 78
            Fred Poland - FR - 76

            DT
            Keilein Dikes - JR (RS) - 85
            Craig Wilson - SR (RS) - 84
            Andrae Wright - JR (RS) - 82

            Defensive Line Notes
We have a very solid unit in the offensive line. Even though we only usually play one defensive tackle in Jeff Cateel's 3-3-5 defense, we have tons of depth at the defensive tackle position. Keilein Dikes is a very talented lineman and could be a force this season.

            OLB
            Kevin McLee - SR (RS) - 87
            Marc Magro - JR (RS) - 74

            Lawrence Williams - FR - 74
            Matt Sinclair - SO (RS) - 68

            MLB
            Jay Henry - SR (RS) - 78
            Bobby Hathaway - JR (RS) - 74
            Scott Rich - FR - 68

            Linebackers Notes
This unit is rather mediocre. Kevin McLee is very good, but the departure of Jeff Noechel from last season will hurt us. Jay Henry, the Academic All-American from Oklahoma, is pretty solid for us starting at the middle linebacker position, but is by no means spectacular.

            CB
            Jarvis Schneider - FR - 76
            Marlon Bolden - FR - 76

            Vaughn Rivers - JR (RS) - 72
            Kris Tawney - JR (RS) - 70
            Pierre McDaniel - FR - 70

            FS
            Abraham Jones - SR (RS) - 82
            Jeff Cook - FR - 78
            Brandon Tate - 68

            SS
            Eric Wicks - SR (RS) - 90
            Ridwan Malik - JR (RS) - 85
            Brad McClung - JR (RS) - 74
            Ron Davis - FR - 72
            Akeem Jackson - SR (RS) - 72
            Adam Allen - FR - 70

            Secondary Notes
We have a lot of youth in the secondary, especially at cornerback. Our top two cornerbacks will be true freshmen, so we could be vulnerable against the pass this season. Abraham Jones, Eric Wicks, and Ridwan Malik should keep most of the big plays from happening, however, as they are very talented safeties. Offenses should be able to nickel and dime us down the field, unfortunately, it looks like.

            K
            Colby Jones - JR - 76

            P
            Scott Kozlowski - FR (RS) - 80
            Mike Buckles - FR - 76

            Special Teams Notes
We have a fairly mediocre kicker in Colby Jones, but he will make due. Scott Kozlowski has the potential to be a great punter and is already rated an 80 as a freshmen.

              Brutal Schedule Awaits Mountaineers

              Morgantown, WV -
Bill Stewart said last season, "To be the best, you have to beat the best." Some may think he went a little overboard by scheduling three top 25 opponents. The Mountaineers will start out in "Death Valley" to face the #11 LSU Tigers. They will then face the likes of Maryland, #8 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and a reunion which is sure to turn ugly as the #10 Michigan Wolverines will travel to Morgantown. The Big East schedule will follow. Then the Mountaineers will face the Marshall Thundering Herd in Morgantown to finish the season. The Mountaineers will play 6 road games and 6 home games this season.

              1. @ #11 LSU
              2. Maryland
              3. @ #8 Virginia Tech

We shall see, though my LSU game didn't go too well. I think we forgot to play defense...Update in a few minutes.

                            Baton Rouge, LA -
No one really expected the Mountaineers to come to Death Valley and beat the LSU Tigers and they were right. After being tied at 31 at halftime, LSU rolled off 28 straight points in the 4th quarter to win 59-38. The Mountaineers seemingly forgot how to play defense as they allowed LSU runningback Allen Brousard to rush for 287 yards and 4 touchdowns on only 22 carries. LSU got 551 yards of total offense, but most of that came on huge plays as LSU seemed to score on the first or second play of every possession in the 4th quarter, including an 80 yard Allen Brousard touchdown run.

The Mountaineers got 515 yards of total offense of their own, but their inability to play defense ultimately cost them the game. Adam Bednarik threw for an incredible 447 yards and 5 touchdowns in the game as he completed 25 of his 41 pass attempts. He threw an interception in desperation towards then end of the game as well.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Casteel was visibly shocked by the LSU offense. "They were so fast," he said. "We had no second level of defense as you all saw. Brousard would burst through the defensive line then be off to the races because of the lack of a second level of defense." Casteel will certainly have to figure out something, because today's defense was arguably the worst defense West Virginia has played in the past 10 years.

With the loss, the Mountaineers fall to 0-1 (0-0). Next week they will face the Maryland Terrapins in Morgantown as it will be the first home game of the season for the Mountaineers.

                                Morgantown, WV -
The West Virginia Mountaineers won their first game of the season this Saturday afternoon, knocking off the Maryland Terrapins by a score of 31-28. The Mountaineers jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter and avoided a comeback by Maryland in the 4th quarter to win by a 3 point margin. "It was closer than we'd like," commented head coach Bill Stewart, "but a win is a win, and today was certainly better than last weeks 21 point drumming by LSU."

Adam Bednarik continued to shine for the Mountaineers, as he threw for 258 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jason Gwanltney had a decent game, but not Colson-esque as man fans expect of him as Jason Colson cast a huge shadow over him to follow in his footsteps. Gwanltney gained 93 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries, but never had any breakout runs that broke open the game. Bednarik was the one responsible for continuing to move the ball most of the game.

The Mountaineers were outgained in the game by the Terrapins 385-369, but the Mountaineers forced 3 Maryland turnovers compared to the Mountaineers 0, a key in the game which probably won the Mountaineers the game.

With the win, Bill Stewart improves to a 4-1 record against rivals and the Mountaineers improve to 1-1 (0-0) on the season.
