Slaton, Mountaineers Run Over Boston

MORGANTOWN, WV - Boston played it's first game against a ranked opponent in school history tonight and it was ugly. Pat White was injured and was not available to play in the game, so a glimmer of hope resided among the Boston faithful. That hope was strengthened when Marques Prater drove the Colonials down the field on the opening possession to score a touchdown and go ahead 7-0 early on.

Backup quarterback Adam Bednarik was injured in the second half, so third stringer Nate Sowers came in and played very well.

However, the second quarter was when the Mountaineers blew the game wide open as Steve Slaton's 166 rushing yards and four touchdowns propelled the Mountaineers to an impressive 62-17 victory. The Mountaineers' National Championship hopes are still very much alive as the Mountaineers sit in the top five and are a perfect 6-0 on the season.

This game featured the #1 defense in the NCAA (West Virginia) versus the #9 offense in the NCAA (Boston). It was clear who won this battle as the Mountaineers wreaked havoc on the powerful Boston offense as the Colonials committed a school record nine turnovers and were held to only 17 points, the lowest scoring total in Boston's short history. The turnovers set up West Virginia with good field position and made it easier for their powerful offense to punch the ball into the endzone drive after drive.

Marques Prater had a disastrous day today as he threw four costly interceptions. Paul Mitchell and Rashaun Poe came in to relive Prater, but did not do much better as the two combined to complete nine of 18 passes for 124 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions.

Boston finishes the three game gauntlet next week as the Colonials take on the #7 Louisville Cardinals.

Interesting dynasty. I'll keep following. I would much rather read this type of dynasty than those where teams go undefeated and beat everyone by 100 points. I like creating cupcake schools on NCAA 08 and trying to build them into solid programs, so I take my share of losses too and feel for you in that department. I would rather go 4-8 with one of those schools though rather than taking an established Top 25 team and running the table year after year.

The worst season I ever had was with New York State University. I went 2-10 in my first year with wins over Buffalo, and Princeton. I lost to Central Florida 87-42 and their RB Smith had 450 yards rushing and 115 yards receiving against me. He had 2 runs of over 80 yards. That was a rough year. I started 2-0 and lost 10 straight, including a 3 point loss to #1 Ohio St. on the road. I led the game 24-20 with 50 seconds left and gave up a punt return for a TD. I managed to drive down the field trailing 27-24 with 4 seconds to go and my kicker (which was rated something like a 58) missed a 35 yard field goal the last play of the game.

Otherwise I would have went with WVU, but they are simply too good. Besides, I prefer to play with a conventional drop back quarterback because I get tempted to cheese when I am playing with a Pat White or other fast QB.

You have a lot of guts to play with a true cupcake school. My school has a cupcake defense, but and offense that is pretty good. I can't imagine the offense being horrible too. Losses of 62-0 an 72-3 would be commonplace I guess.

Ouch, 10 straight losses would be painful. Of course, I look to be in pretty good shape to lose seven in a row. That sounds like a tough loss to be competing with a team that is far better than you, but barely lose. All the effort goes to waste. That's how I felt when our 23-0 halftime lead evaporated against Boston College and we suddenly found ourselves down 27-23 going into the fourth after they scored 27 points in the third. Luckily, I got it together and barely won by a field goal.

BOSTON, MA - 103 points. That is the amount the Louisville Cardinals scored in this absolute blowout.

"I think it's absolutely embarrassing," said Coach Frizzell about his team's performance. "Our defense sucks. We suck. This team sucks. Can we throw in the white flag and forfeit this season and move on to next season already?"

Boston played musical quarterbacks in this game as every single Boston Quarterback had interception issues. "Well, interception-prone Marques Prater started the game, but after tossing his third pick of the game, he was jerked. Then Paul Mitchell came in to go 1-6 and throw a pick, so I pulled him. Then I brought in Rashaun Poe and every single one of the nine passes he threw were caught. The problem was that four of those passes were interceptions. Eventually, I sad 'screw it' and just started running the ball. I'd throw a pass every now and then, but we'd turn it over. I am in despair..."

Louisville was within a touchdown of the NCAA football scoring record.

Next week starting quarterback Chad Kemp will be back, so the quarterback woes should be over.

I think in year 2 of that dynasty I was 5-7 and in year 3, I was 7-5. I was in the midst of year 4 with a 3-1 record when I stopped playing for some reason. Your dynasty has me thinking of going back and playing mine again this weekend. LOL

I've tried seasons with WVU and they aren't that fun to me. I can use White & Devine and rack up 500+ rushing yards per game against most teams and even throw for 200 or so. I used them for 2 seasons and had a record of 24-2. Oddly enough, in season 1 I finished 12-0 and was shut out of the Championship game because Ohio St. & USC were both undefeated and ahead of me so I ended up playing TCU in another BCS bowl game. In season 2 I was 11-1 and made the Championship game and lost to Texas by 4 points. White got hurt early in the 1st Qtr and it messed my whole game up. Anyway, I just find it more fun and rewarding to get a bowl bid with a cupcake created school, even if you have no chance of winning a championship.

I used to try to build them into a perennial national title contender, but now that they already are one, I don't get that opportunity anymore. Creating a school is always fun though!

I can't wait until the offseason when I can get some new recruits in here on defense! I wouldn't be surprised if my entire secondary is true freshmen next year because I don't have a single cornerback faster than 78 speed...and that creates some mismatches obviously and some big plays for my opponents.

I love recruiting. After playing about 3 or 4 games, I'm ready to hurry and get the season over so I can recruit again. That secondary sounds brutal. With DB's that slow I bet teams don't see much man-to-man coverage against you. LOL

I've tried using pure pocket-passers and running sets like Hawaii and Texas Tech run but that doesn't work out too well for me. I usually go with multiple or 4-3 on defense.

I love recruiting. After playing about 3 or 4 games, I'm ready to hurry and get the season over so I can recruit again. That secondary sounds brutal. With DB's that slow I bet teams don't see much man-to-man coverage against you. LOL

Well, I've tried man-to-man and it doesn't work as my secondary is soooo slow. Then I try to play some zone and my secondary has such low awareness ratings that they don't know what's going on and the offense easily finds gaping holes in the zone. I blitz some as well. For the most part I play zone, though, because it is almost impossible to play man-to-man because it's obviously hard for my 78 speed CB to covers WRs with 90+ speed.

I run a west coast style offense and pass probably 60-70% of the time. I like a pocket passer type QB that are accurate, basically like a Brian Brohm, Payton Manning, Tom Brady, ect. I may switch to a spread offense eventually, though, once I get more speed on offense. Also, I may run more if I can recruit a high quality runningback.

On defense I run a 3-4. I usually run a 4-3, but decided I would try to go with a 3-4 in this dynasty just for something different. I occassionally go with a 3-3-5 as well like WVU runs.

Kemp Falls Victim to Injury Again as Colonials Lose to Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH - With Chad Kemp back from injury, you wouldn't expect any more musical quarterbacks like we have seen lately. Or would you?

Coach Frizzell decided to make the move to a more spread-like offense to try to get more shotgun formations and hopefully protect the quarterback more, a problem which has nagged the Colonials this year. The plan worked very well early as the Colonials racked up a 7-3 lead and were inside the Cincinnati 10 yard line looking to score yet again.

However, that was the turning point of the game as Chad Kemp was nailed after passing the ball and fell victim to a mild concussion. Team doctors held him out for the game, but said he would be available to play next week. Up to that point, Kemp had a marvelous game as he went 9-14 for 85 yards through the air and rushed five times for 50 yards a touchdown on the ground.

"I just don't know why he [Kemp] has so much trouble staying healthy," said an exasperated Coach Frizzell as his team drops to 2-7 on the season. "He had some injury issues even before his big injury as he had some stingers that caused him to lose a couple games here and there in the first few games. I just don't know what to do because he is a great quarterback when he can play."

In came interception-machine Marques Prater to replace Kemp. "I tried to run the ball at first to keep things safe and Prater from throwing picks, but our offense stagnated and after falling behind 19-14," commented Coach Frizzell. "I knew we had to be more aggresive and we had to pass the ball."

Sure enough, on that very possession Prater launched a wild pass wild being nailed by a defensive lineman that sailed 20 yards off target and landed right in the hands of a Bearcat defender.

"I thought here we go again," said Coach Frizzell. "I jerked him promptly because I knew there was plenty more picks where that came from. He's a pick-machine and there's no getting around that."

From then on, it was over. Cincinnati rolled on and, after falling befind 14-3 early on, scored 33 unanswered points to romp the Colonials 36-14, even though the Bearcats were behind 14-13 at halftime.

Backup quarterback Ronald Fowlkes started for Cincinnati since starter Dustin Grutza was out with an injury.
