I apologize... I advanced to the new season before checking who won the yearly awards. Sorry I will be unable to post those unless there is a way to see who has won them the previous years.

Any comments/suggestions/insults before I begin posting for the new season?

I adjusted the sliders to make it a little bit harder and the first game was a VERY crazy one.

Week 1: San Francisco (0-0) at New York (0-0)
What a game. It came down to the wire and probably did some serious damage to the heart conditions of both coaches.

                        1st Quarter
On the opening drive, New York appeared efficient as they got a couple of first downs. Afterwards, they went for the big score-- and it paid off! Collins completed a 66-yard touchdown pass to Jones. The San Fran secondary appeared in trouble, and it didn't stop there. The 49ers offense responded with an impressive 11-play, 59-yard, 6:32 drive that ended on Barlow's 7-yard burst to paydirt. San Francisco's defense stopped the Giants, and the Giants responded in kind. On the punt, New York's Sprangler returned it 85 yards to give New York their 7-point lead back.

                        2nd Quarter
San Francisco appeared to shoot themselves in the foot as Garcia threw a bad pass that was intercepted at the SF 40. As a result, the Giants took advantage of the short field and Collins found Barber in the flats who then finished off a 28-yard touchdown pass with his speed. This gave the Giants a nice 21-7 lead. San Francisco put together a quick score and Barlow again finished it off, this time from 5 yards out. The Giants ate up some clock before Tiki Barber punched it in from the goaline. With 1:30, the San Francisco offense went back to work and were successful as Jeff Garcia found Kevan Barlow for a 25-yard touchdown reception to make the score 28-21 at the half, in favor of the Giants.

                        3rd Quarter
The Niners got the ball first and continued their scoring success. When they got to the 10 yard line, Garcia looked in Owens' direction to tie the game at 28. The initial drive of the second half consisted of 11 plays, went 77 yards, and lasted 6 minutes. The 49ers defense forced a punt, but Jimmy Williams fumbled the return at the SF 25. This opened the door for a New York score, but good defense from the Niners kept it at just a 3-point score to make it 31-28 and give the Giants the lead back.

                        4th Quarter
The 49ers kept on with their offense. Finally from the 2 yard line, Beasley managed to bust through a couple of defenders and land in the endzone. Both defenses held the other teams at bay for the majority of the quarter. With about 4 minutes left to play, Jason Webster picked off Kerry Collins and ran 48 yards to give the Niners comfortable 42-31 lead late in the second half. But the Giants were NOT finished. On a fast drive, Kerry Collins hit Carter for a 39-yard touchdown. The 2-point conversion brought the score within 3. San Francisco recovered the onside kick, but three runs that went nowhere gave New York the ball back. Kerry Collins had no problem picking apart the secondary and the Giants moved to the 21 of San Fran with 4 seconds to play. K Hollis nailed a 38-yard field goal to tie it at 42 and send it to overtime!

                        OVERTIME
New York won the toss but the Giants offense suddenly stalled. San Francisco, on the other hand, seemed fired up after blowing a late 11-point lead. They drove downfield before Jeff Chandler ended the game on a 28-yard field goal boot.

FINAL: San Francisco survives in New York 45-42 in OT!

The secondary needs to get better if we're going to stay competitive. Also, Jimmy Williams is going to have to learn to hold onto the ball when he gets hit. Our offense appeared on track today, but there are for sure some things that need addressing in practice. But, like I said, we are happy to get out of there with the 'W' as the Giants are a very formidable team and they are only getting better it seems."

Week 2: Carolina (0-1) at San Francisco (1-0)

                              1st Quarter
On the opening drive, Carolina appeared efficient at moving the ball. However, that all ended when rookie TE Joel Farmer fumbled the ball and San Francisco recovered at their own 43. The 49ers converted the turnover into points as Beasley found his way into the endzone from three yards out. This seemed to temporarily stunt Carolina's offense, as they were forced to punt the next time out. Jimmy Williams made some nice moves on his way to a 55-yard punt return touchdown to give the Niners a healthy 14-0 lead. Carolina answered this with a 7-play, 77-yard, 4:52 drive that ended when Del Homme hit Steve Smith for a 38-yard score to put the Panthers on the board.

                              2nd Quarter
San Francisco punted away but Carolina couldn't get very far as Mike Rumph picked off Del Homme and made it back to the Carolina 25 yard line before being brought down from behind. The Panthers held them to just a field goal, putting the score at 17-7. After Carolina punted again, Garcia immediately threw an interception at the SF 36. After a five yard run by Stephen Davis, Del Homme found Muhsin Muhammad for a 31-yard touchdown. On the 49ers next drive, they handed the ball to Barlow... FUMBLE! But wait, as it was under two minutes left in the half, the referees reviewed the call and overturned it. The 49ers continued down the field and Chandler added a 33-yard field goal to make it 20-14 at the half.

                              3rd Quarter
Garcia continued to struggle when the Niners opened the second half as he threw an interception to Fields who ran back 29 yards and gave the Panthers a slim 21-20 advantage. San Francisco's offense then got in gear and marched down the field. At the four yard line, Barlow was a little winded so he took a break. Hearst came in temporarily and on his only carry of the game, he scored a touchdown from four yards out. On Carolina's next play, Del Homme was picked off by Derek Smith who ran 28 yards to paydirt and gave the 49ers a 34-21 lead.

                              4th Quarter
Both defenses looked great in this quarter as there was no scoring. The Panthers managed two sacks in this quarter alone and the 49ers managed one. That was all the action that was had.
