Re: FSU: The Rebuild and "the Return" (NCAA 2019 Dynasty)

    UP NEXT: #19 BAYLOR (3-0)

The Seminoles are back in Primetime action this weekend against an undefeated Baylor Bear football team. The Bears check-in at #19, which will mark the Noles second Top 25 match-up this season as they defeated #1 Oregon to open the year. Head Coach Cameel Verner in today's presser shared his thoughts on the upcoming ACC match up.

"They are a heck of a team. They are undefeated, and they aren't going to back down. They have one of the best Offensive Lines we will face this season. Those hogs they have up front are sound, and physical. We definitely have our work cut out for us. They have dynamic playmakers, a heck of a Quarterback, that's a good team that's coming to our house to kick our tails." said Verner.

The undefeated Bears widely considered has probably the best line not only in the ACC, but quite possibly the country. The Bears' Offensive Line unit has only allowed 3 sacks so far in 3 games. In comparison, the Seminoles while have been bruisers and maulers in the run game, has allowed 7 sacks so far this year. According to Mel Kiper, the Bears have 3 Offensive Lineman that are predicted to go in the First three rounds of next years draft.

Bears Quarterback Lance Smith has been an impressive 67% throwing on the season with 11 Touchdowns for the Bears. The Bear's receivers aren't as big as the receivers they are used to seeing this early in the season as the two bears leading pass catchers are both 5'11" respectively, but they boast a ton of speed, and Defensive Coordinator Ryan Dukes is aware of the Speed Demons on that side for the Bears.

"They have athletes. They are extremely fast, twitchy, can get in and out of breaks. We have to cover or they are going to really make us pay. " Said Dukes.

Defensively, the Bears are fast but small, which may work in the favor of the Noles punishing style of offense they have adapted to so far this season. The Bear's run an odd front defense similar to the Seminoles. However, the Defensive Tackles/Nose Tackles are around the 280 range. But with the blitzing style, aggressive approach the Bears present, their size has not been an issue much this season as the Bears penetrate gaps so quickly, which has caught the attention of Offensive Coordinator Hayden Kiser.

"They are very quick up front. They do an amazing job with their gap control, and gap integrity. They are one heck of a ball club. It's going to be a task so we hope our guys are ready for the challange. It's going to be one of those blades of grass games." said Kiser.

    RECRUITING

This game is one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the season as the Noles will host several blue chip prospects, including All Word Tight End Gavin Houston, who is the #2 Overall Basketball prospect in the country, as well as the #4 Overall Football prospect.

        IT'S THE BYE WEEK
        October 10, 2032
        Senior Writer, Fred Lee

The Seminoles are currently #1 in America, sitting at 5-0, and possibly have the most impressive start in the Cameel Verner tenure. The Noles defense look championship worthy. While turnover prone, the Offense looks explosive enough in spurts to win games. This team looks to be extremely special. Two top 25 wins so far this season, all impressive. The Offense is averaging 50.2 points per game and the defense is only allowing 2.7 yards per play. This is a very different Florida State Seminole football team. Much different than we've seen the past decade, and a heck of a lot different than we've seen the past 3 seasons where the Noles have been able to secure 2 national championships out of those 3 seasons. This team is undeniably better than any of the two championship teams defensively, and clearly more explosive. The only hinderance currently the team has the absurd amount of giveways the offense has produced.

Defensive captains Sophomore Linebacker David Grier, and Junior Defensive Back Luron Dixon have lived up to their All-American hype. Both lead the team in tackles currently. Redshirt Junior DE Robert Tate has made his decision to return to the Seminoles a fruitful one as he leads the Seminoles in sacks, while Redshirt Sophomore LB George Phillips who received all the pre-season hype leads the team in tackles for loss. So far in the halfway point of the season, this has been the most complete defense from top to bottom we have seen in years.

Offensively, the Offensive Line is mean, nasty and dominant. A big difference in attitude from years past. The Line wants to punish you. They want to humiliate you. You can see the passion in the way they play this year which is a sight to see. The Running Backs have been nothing short of spectacular. The Noles run about Five-Deep in the Running Back rotation this season and average 314.7 rushing yards a game, 3rd in the country.

Outside of the absurd amount of interceptions, Quarterback play is marginally better than last season. If the interceptions can get under wraps, this Seminole team virtually looks unstoppable. However, let's not let this get to Coach Verner as we know he never sleeps and always wants the Noles to be better than before. However, this Seminole group looks awfully similar to Verner's previous Georgia Tech teams that dominated college football for almost a decade and a half. The Seminoles are hungry after falling short of a championship run last season, and have vowed redemption this year. Through Five-Games so far this year, I would say so far so good. But as we know, college football is an eternity. And a lot can change within a matter of a week. It will be interesting to see moving forward, how the Noles handle the remainder of the year as they've just completely dominated the first part of the year.

          BYE WEEK REVIEW

It's the bye week for the Seminoles at a much needed time of the year. The Seminoles are sitting at 5-0 on the season ranked #1. After a 10-3 season, which was to most fans and players deemed a disappointing season, the Noles have started off hot averaging more than 50 points per game. That point per game average is the highest in Cameel Verner's tenure at Florida State. Normally, Verner is known for his stifling defenses. Even with that reputation, Florida State's first four years with Verner as it's Head Coach has yet to see a defense this good. The Noles in five games have only allowed an average of 2.7 yards per play which ranks 8th in the country. While the Noles have been impressive for five games so far, Head Coach Cameel Verner says the next five are just as important as the first five.

"The pats on the back, the recognition, all of that is great. It brings recognition to our program, and our players who have put in all the work. But it's just the first half of the season. The second part of the season can be the complete opposite of the first half. The work isn't done. Plenty of more work to do. No one's going to remember the start if your finish doesn't match it. " said Verner

The Seminoles finish the second half of the year vs UAB, at Louisville, Wake Forest, Syracuse, at NC State, at Clemson and at Florida. With a front loaded schedule, the Seminoles second half doesn't appear as strong as the front half. The only ranked team currently of the remaining games is the Gators.

Admittedly, the start to the season has fans excited about what's to come for the Seminoles. And we will look at the good and the bad to the season's start for the Noles.

          THE GOOD

          1. OFFENSIVE LINE UNIT

At 5-0, and arguably the best team currently in College Football going into the Bye Week, there's a lot of good to look at for the Seminoles. But the biggest improvement so far this year that the Seminoles have is the play of the Offensive Line unit. Offensive Coordinator Hayden Kiser stated upon his hiring that the Noles would be more physical upfront and to this point he has been spot on. The Seminoles rank 4th in the country in rushing. And currently are 3rd in the ACC in sacks allowed. Last year, the Noles ranked dead last in sacks allowed and were 95th in rushing. The Offensive Line unit has gone from being an often maligned unit, to the biggest strength of the Seminoles offense this season. ESPN analyst David Pollack had a lot of positives to say about the Seminoles Offensive Line unit so far this season.

"They are mean, man. They are mean, they are nasty, and boy are they physical. I tell you, the Noles have some dudes on that Offensive Line. Kudos to Offensive Line coach Harry Hiestand to whipping these guys in shape becuase they were horrendous last year. But the scheme change, philosophy change has helped shift the mindset of this unit and these guys are getting after it. " said Pollack.

          2. PASS RUSH

The Seminoles pass rush was simply non existent last season. So far through five games the Seminoles pass rush has done a complete 180. The Noles are ranked 5th in the country currently in sacks. Last season the Noles finished 53rd in sacks. Warchant Senior writer Fredd Lee explains the importance of the Seminoles pass rush this season.

"It starts up front. The Seminoles front 7 dramatically changes the schematics offensively. They have changed what Offensive Coordinators want to do. They make teams one dimensional. And due to excellent coaching and recruiting, the Noles now have players who are able to consistently get after Quarterbacks on obvious passing downs." said Lee

DE/LB George Phillips and DE Robert Tate have been the ring leaders in applying the pressure up front for the Seminoles. Tate leads the country with 9.5 sacks, while Phillips is right behind him with 8 sacks. If the Noles want to continue their string of dominance, it will have to continue up front with the Seminoles pass rushing prowess.

          3. ALL AMERICANS PLAYING AS SUCH

The Seminoles coming into the season had a few Pre Season All-Americans coming to the year and a slew of All Conference players also. And to this point, the Seminoles leaders have played exactly as such. Leaders. Defensively, led by Sophomore LB David Grier, who currently leads the team in tackles with 69 spearheads the Noles defense. For years the Seminoles had issues with Linebacker play until the former Reciever turned Linebacker made an instant impact his freshman season at the Mike position finishing second on the team in tackles.

Junior Defensive Back Luron Dixon and Junior Defensive Back Ja'Carius Kidd are also the other defensive All-Americans that have lifted this Seminoles football team to where they are. Dixon even missing a game this season due to concussion protocol, still is second on the team in tackles, including an incredible 21 tackle performance this season as well, most by an FSU Defensive Back ever. Kidd leads the country in interceptions and interception returns for a touchdown as his play has ascended over the past few games. Kidd one of the most dominant Cornerback prospects in the last decade has given the Noles a much needed boost in the secondary this season. The Noles lead the country with 17 takeaways in their first 5 games, Kidd has 8 of them himself. If the Noles want to continue their dominance defensively, it's going to start with their three Defensive All-Americans. And through five games, they are off to an amazing start.

The three Pre-Season All-Americans have been the unquestioned leaders on this football team. And they have lived up to the billing up to this point. It's highly likely two of the three will not be in a Seminole uniform next season, as they will probably enter next years NFL Draft. But it was echoed all throughout preseason camp. The Noles revenge tour started in game one as they were dissapointed in last seasons prodution, and it festered all through Spring camp and Fall camp. The Noles are playing with a chip on their shoulder so far this year. The challenge now becomes, can they keep the same intensity for the remainder of the season.

          4. COACHES HAVE BEEN A HEALTHY ADDITION

          OC Hayden Kiser

          DC Ryan Dukes

For the last 4 years during Cameel Verner's tenure, the Noles had Tommy Bowden as it's Offensive Coordinator, and Tim Beckman as it's Defensive Coordinator. Bowden retired the end of last season while Beckman took the Head Coaching job at Boston College. That left Verner ultimately having to hire two Coordinators for the first time at Florida State. Verner went on to hire Hayden Kiser as his Offensive Coordinator, who was Verner's starting Quarterback while Verner was the Head Coach at Georgia Tech. While Kiser was Georgia Tech's QB from 24'-26', the former Five-Star was able to secure one national title and went on to be drafted in the 3rd round of the NFL Draft. However, injuries forced Kiser to retire early from the NFL and Verner gambled on hiring an unproven, unexperienced OC to lead a National Power. Up to this point, that gamble has paid off. Kiser has the Noles averaging 50.2 points per game, #1 in the country. In Verner's 18 year coaching career he's never had an offense average 50 points per game. The Noles are also 5th in the country in rushing as well under Kiser. Kiser vowed to Seminole nation that the Noles would be more aggressive, more physical and more emposing this year. So far through five games, he's checked all of those boxes.

"He's come in and done an amazing job with our Offense. The job isn't finished, but we defintely must acknowledge what we've been able to do so far. We've got some weaknesses offensively we must work on. I know that, he knows that. But he's been working tirelessly to fix it." said Cameel Verner

Defensively, after Tim Beckman decided to leave the Noles for BC, left a vacancy on the defensive side as well. Enter Ryan Dukes. Dukes played for Cameel Verner as a Walk On Defensive Back in Verner's first season at FSU. Dukes immediately after graduated, became a Graduate Assistant at Florida State. Out of all the candidates on the Hot Board, Verner opted to go with the former player and Graduate Assistant to be Florida State's Defensive Coordinator. The hire drew a bit of concern from the Seminole faithful, but one thing we've learned up to this point is to not question the boss. After winning 8 National Championships in 18 years, it seems Verner has a good grip on what he wants. Dukes has the Seminoles boasting the best Defense under Verner's 5 year tenure so far, even better than the two national championship defenses.

"We've played with a drive all year. A chip on our shoulders. RD (Ryan Dukes) has done an amazing job with our players. The accountability has been whats stood out. He holds everyone accountable. He's about in their age group (he said with a laugh), but he's way beyond his years. " said Verner.

Both Coordinators while rookies, have Florida State looking better than it ever has in the Cameel Verner regime. If the revenge tour for Florida State is going to be successful this season, Verner is going to have to count on these Coordinators to continue to lead by example to achieve the goal they set out for this season.

          THE BAD

It's quite simple. With all of the good we've seen from this Seminole football team, it's one glaring flaw. The turnovers, specifically from starting Sophomore QB Sha'Dar Walker. Walker currently has 17 interceptions through five games so far, which leads the country. If the Seminoles want to finish their revenge tour, Walker will have to get a handle of those turnover woes. Luckily, the team has been good enough through five-games to not be completely hurt by Walker's costly turnovers. And Hayden Kiser knows his starting Quarterback has to get a hang of the turnover prone mistakes sooner than later.

"I've been in his shoes before. Feeling like you have to make all the plays, sometimes trying to make something out of nothing. I understsnad fully. He's such a talented player, he has so much confidence in himself to where he feels he can make every play. And it's on me to help him understand making the small plays consistently is actually making the big play. He's still learning. We will fix these errors." said Kiser

Well Nole nation really hopes the errors get fixed. Because the Noles may not be able to over come costly turnovers later on in the season, or in the College Football Playoff when competition gets tighter. Five Games in, we have not seen former Five-Star Freshman QB Terry Washington or Four-Star QB Ko'Dallas Avery. It's quite evident through five games, the Seminoles are going to redshirt both Quarterbacks barring some unfortunate turn of events. So, with that being said it seems it's completely up to the veteran Quarterbacks to lead the Seminoles to the promised land this season.

"There are some things we are going to tweak, some small changes here and there we are going to change that we think will help take some of the pressure off of our Quarterback. If he's able to think freely, his true ability will show. And that's what we are looking for. " said Kiser

HERBSTREIT WEIGHTS IN ON THE NOLES

The Seminoles were the topic of discussion on their Bye Week on Gameday. The Noles currently sit at #1 in the country, at 5-0 on the year. The Noles next week have an upcoming battle against Conference USA title contender UAB. Kirk Herbstreit on his segment on Game Day had a lot to say about this year's Seminole football team.

"You know what, last season the Noles felt they let everyone in Tallahassee down. And by their standards, was a let down year. But let me tell you, 10-3 isnt a down year. All you've heard from the players up to this point is "Revenge Tour this, Revenge Tour that", the players, the staff, everyone invovled is angry in Tallahassee. But that's the mindset that's been instilled down there. The Noles are playing very, very, angry right now. And this is a very scary football team. With all the Offensive Philosophy changes new Offensive Coordinator Hayden Kiser has installed, new Defensive Coordinator Ryan Dukes has this team flying all over the field. This team is scary. And they are getting BETTER. They are physical, they are mean, they are nasty, they are ferocious. Head Coach Cameel Verner has something special brewing this season. We can get caught up in the fact the Noles have won the last two of the three National Championships. But I'll tell you what, I think THIS team, might be better than both of those Championship teams. The Seminoles are FOR REAL. "

David Pollack also echoed Herbstreit's sentiments and had glaring reviews of the Seminoles.

"I said it once and I said it before, they have some DUDES on that Offensive Line. Actually, both lines. They have some bad mamma jammas. I'm telling you. The Offensive Line is physical. They recreate a new line of scrimmage and they play to the whistle. They are big, agile and flat out freaks. Defensively, you've got Robert Tate on that Defensive Line, the Hybrid George Phillips on there as well. Think about this for a second. Phillips is 6 foot 6, nearly 270 pounds and runs a low 4.4 man. That's unreal. That's just unreal. The Seminoles no doubt are right now to this point of the season are the team to watch. I agree with you Kirk" said Pollack

While Herbstreit and other game day crew sung their praises, the Seminoles know they have plenty of football left to play. Next week they will host UAB at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Re: FSU: The Rebuild and "the Return" (NCAA 2019 Dynasty)

            UP NEXT: UAB (2-2)

The Seminoles fresh off their bye week will Host the 2-2 UAB Blazers out of Conference USA. The Blazers have had an up and down season up to this point, and to make matters worse, their starting Quarterback Bryant Mack left the game last week early and is out this week against the Noles. Back up Justin Carter will make his first career start in Tallahassee Saturday. The injury to Mack is a big one for UAB as he is both the leading rusher and passer for the Blazers.

NOLES TO FACE TRIO OF FORMER NOLES

UAB WR Barcelo Williams had 9 catches and 3 TDs in his 3 year FSU Career

The Seminoles this weekend against the Blazers will play host to a trio of former Seminoles who have transferred to UAB in recent years. Most notably, former Four-Star WR Barcelo Williams. Williams finished his 3 year career at Florida State with nine total catches, two going for touchdowns. He also has one career Punt Return for a touchdown also.

Along with Williams, both Seniors C Marcus Lamb and T Kevin Lewis both will return to Florida State for the first time after leaving Florida State for UAB.

            RECRUITING

The Seminoles during their bye week saw an explosion of commitments inclduing four big time Five-Star prospects. RB Rohkan Fredrick, TE Gavin Houston, LB Sanchez Donga and CB Tedarius Brown all pledged to the Seminoles over the weekend.

Fredrick, the son of Florida State legend Ross Fredrick was a forseen comittment for quite some time. However, LB Sanchez Donga was quite a surprise as he seemed bound for Miami. The Noles also recieved commitments from Four Star OG Tyler Pruitt and S Kobi Saunders.

            NEW COMMITMENTS

CB Tedarius Brown 6’0” 205 Davie, FL
            #9 Overall , #2 CB

Brown is one of the better athletes in the country. A 4.3 forty guy and the Noles fell in love with his versatility. Brown can play Outside, Nickle or Safety in the base 3-3-5.

LB Sanchez Donga 6’1” 225 Lauderdale Lakes, FL
            #6 Overall, #1 LB

Donga, who everyone though twas headed to Miami. However, the hard hitting Linebacker is headed to Tallahassee. He gets down hill fast and plays angry and with urgency. The Noles hit a homerun filling a need for Middle Linebacker in this class.

OT Viking Harrell 6’9” 295 Augusta, GA
            #342 Overall, #15 T

Harrell as a need that the Noles wanted. He has excellent length at 6'9" and has a big time mean streak. The Noles love his upside.

RB Rohkan Fredrick 6’0” 220 Hollywood, FL
            #17 Overall, #3 RB

The son of Former Seminole great Ross Fredrick commits to the Seminoles. Like his father, the younger Fredrick has excellent burst and vision. Once again the Noles look to sign the nation's best Running Back class.

TE Gavin Houston 6’8” 225 Paramus, NJ
            #4 Overall, # 1 TE

The Five-Star basketball player is the #1 player in the Rivals basketball rankings. However, he's choses Florida State to play Football. Houston chose to play Football after having basketball offers from Duke, Kansas, UNC and many others. He also held over 60 football scholarships as well. At 6'8", Houston also has an unreal 43" inch vertical. His size and speed will most certainly cause a ton of mismatches next season.

OG Tyler Pruitt 6’8” 356 Quincy, FL

Pruitt is a mauler in evey sense of the word. He plays Tackle in high school but will play Guard at Florida State. The Noles are looking to continue to get bigger and meaner in the trenches and Pruitt fits that bill.

            S Kobi Saunders 6’2” 200 Lakeland, FL

Saunders is a needed Free Safety option as he is long and rangy on the back end. He fits extremely well in what the Noles like to do defensively.

            COMMITTED PROSPECTS

CB Tedarius Brown 6’0” 205 Davie, FL
LB Sanchez Donga 6’1” 225 Lauderdale Lakes, FL
RB Rohkan Fredrick 6’0” 220 Hollywood, FL
OT Viking Harrell 6’9” 295 Augusta, GA
OG Erik Harvey 6’6” 355 Maitland, FL
TE Gavin Houston 6’8” 225 Paramus, NJ
            RB Kijon St.James 5’8” 215 Homestead, FL
OG Tyler Pruitt 6’8” 356 Quincy, FL
            S Kobi Saunders 6’2” 200 Lakeland, FL

The #1 team in the country shifts it's focus this week as a massive favorite to take on a winless Louisville team. While Lousiville has had a rough start to it's season, Coach Cameel Verner knows going into Papa John's Stadium and coming away with a victory will be a task that the Noles will not take lightly.

"They are a much better football team than their record indicates. They fly to the football, they are physical up front. And they will be at home. They also have had a week to prepare coming off a bye week. We've got to mentally prepare our team for the challenge ahead. Records mean nothing from Saturday to Saturday. " said the 8 time champion Head Coach.

The Noles bring in a Top 10 defense nationally. Ranked #1 against the run and 8th against the pass. The Noles currently are also #1 in takeaways. This is one of the best defenses Cameel Verner has yeilded during his tenure as a Head Coach. The Noles will be up to the task to stop the rushing attack of the Cardinals.

SENIOR DB MAKING MOST OF FINAL YEAR

Senior DB Bihadda Maddox making most of Senior Year

Former Five-Star Bihadda Maddox was one of the crown jewel recruits four years ago for Cameel Verner. Maddox was mostly a High School reciever and sought after by most schools to play that position. But Cameel Verner felt differently upon arrival at FSU.

"When I first got here, Coach told me I would best fit playing Hawk(slot). I wasn't really interested in playing Defense, but we also were pretty loaded at reciever at the time with (former Seminoles) Jamar Reid, Kennard Thomas and all those other guys. And when he told me I had a chance to start as a Freshman at Hawk, I immediately was all in." Said Maddox

                  High School Profile

Maddox had a chance to leave early last season as a Junior to the NFL Draft, but Maddox was pegged as a late round (5th to 7th round) pick. He opted to come back and show he was better than his draft grade indicated.

"Yeah, when my Draft came back and it said 'Late Round' I was like nah, man no way. I'm better than that." said Maddox

The Four year starter came into the year with a chip on his shoulder. Along with playing the Hawk position, he's also played Field and Boundary (corner) as well as Free (FS) and Ace (Strong Safety). To sum it up, Maddox has consistently played all Five Defensive Back spots in the defense up to this point of the season. And he has not dissapointed. Maddox has 25 tackles, 4 interceptions, 8 pass breakups, and 1 Fumble Recovery and 2 Defensive Touchdowns to his name this year as a Senior.

"He's one of our unsung heroes on the Defense. Dixon and Kidd get all of the love from the media, and they deserve it. But Maddox is the old General to the fort" said Defensive Coordinator Ryan Dukes.

Dukes was a graduating Senior when Maddox was being recruited to Florida State, and he remembers him very well from those recruiting trips. Not many coaches have the opportunity to reflect as a player with current players, but Dukes situation is a unique one.

"I knew he was special when he came on his Official Visit. Now that I get to coach him I look back and was realize he was everything I thought he would be. I get talked about pretty bad knowing we are only one class apart." Dukes said with a laugh "But B-Ha is a special kid. "

NOLES TO BE WITHOUT 3 OL vs UL

SR T Bob Martin will undergo season ending shoulder surgery ending his career at FSU

The Seminoles dominant OL has taken a huge hit this weekend as Starting Right Tackle Bob Martin will have season ending shoulder surgery. The 6'8" 332 pound Senior has started every game for the Seminoles this season. The former Four-Star from Kathleen, FL was rated the #4 tackle in this years Draft class by Mel Kiper Jr. With Backup Tackle Marcus Black suspended the Noles will move Senior Guard Derique Smith to Tackle where he played his first two seasons as a Nole. Junior Justin Holloway will make his first career start at Right Guard while Redshirt Freshman Blaine Bonner will make his first start as a Seminole at Left Guard.

The Noles also will be with out starting Center Cole Chinndell and Starting Left Guard Anthony Branch as both players are out with concussion protocols.

                  STARTING TE SUSPENDED

Redshirt Junior Tight End Cody Toole has been suspended indefinitely for violation of NCAA Rules. Toole has started every game at Tight End for the Seminoles this season. The Michigan transfer has 4 catches on the season for 77 yards.

                  RECRUITING

Recruiting has picked up in recent weeks for the Seminoles as they have seen an influx of commitments. Earlier this week, the Noles picked up a number of big time commitments. Four stars DT Prince Harris, CB Chichejwa Nwani, LB Antonio Harris and DE Braylon Fields all pledge their services to the Seminoles.

DT Prince Harris 6’4” 320 Memphis, TN
                  #32 Overall, #2 DT

Harris was a huge get for the Seminoles. He's an absolute force to be reckoned with in the trenches. He has violent hands, great pad leverage and an absolute motor. Harris has the ability to be an every down lineman at the next level including the NFL. He defends the run extremely well and gets after the passer. Extremely agile and athletic for a guy his size. FSU hit a huge homerun with this commitment.

CB Chi Chi Nwani 6’1” 200 Nashville, TN
                  #172 Overall, #6 CB

The Seminoles strike again in the state of Tennessee as they grab a commitment from Chichejwa "Chi Chi" Nwani. Chi Chi might be one of the highest graded pure cover corners in this class. He has outstanding coverage skills and even better ball skills. Chi Chi is a perfect compliment to the commitment of Five-Star Tedarius Brown earlier in the season. While Chi Chi might not have the ultra athletic ability of Brown, he makes up for in his ability to blanket his defender. The paring of the two corner in the future could give the Noles a heck of a duo similar to Eric Igwe and Ja'Carius Kidd of this current Seminole team. The Noles got one heck of a Pure Cornerback in Chi Chi with this pickup.

                  DE/DT Braylon Fields 6’7” 240 Oakland, CA
                  #119 Overall, #6 DE

The Noles reach all the way to the West Coast to nab Defensive Lineman Braylon Fields who is such a disruptive talent on the Defensive Line. The Noles wanted to make sure they continue to be dominant up front and Fields undoubtedly helps in that regard. He's extremely physical and has unbelieveable burst. He can grow into a hybrid DE/DT role in the noles Odd Front scheme with this length.

LB Antonio Harris 6’4” 220 Mobile, AL
                  #210 Overall, #14 LB

Harris, the teammate of Five-Star target D'Juan Davis pledged his commitment to the Noles. Harris is a protoypical Middle Linebacker who loves contact. He's an extremely physical linebacker who fills gaps extremely well. With the commitment secured of the #1 LB in the country Sanchez Donga, the Noles are set at Linebacker.

                  COMMITTED PROSPECTS

DE Braylon Fields 6’7” 240 Oakland, CA
RB Rohkan Fredrick 6’0” 220 Hollywood, FL
OT Viking Harrell 6’9” 295 Augusta, GA

                      UP NEXT: WAKE FOREST (3-3)

                      3:30 PM/ET ESPN

The Noles will return home after a victory last weekend on the road in Louisville. While the score indicated a lopsided victory in the Noles winning 31-14, the score was much closer. And Head Coach Cameel Verner knows that he will need better effort from his players than a week previously in order to knock off the Demon Deacons. Wake Forest QB David Smith has only thrown 1 interception on the season , Week 2 vs Boise. The Noles lead the Nation takeaways with 26.

"We must be much more sound this week. Wake is a heck of a ball team. They have a Quarterback who doesn't make mistakes. Their running back runs the ball extremely physical. Their defense flies around and makes plays. Our kids understand the task at hand. It's up to us as coaches to prepare them best as possible." said Verner

                      FRESHMAN TAKING ON SIZABLE ROLE

Freshman DB Thomas Spiller has been bright for the Noles this season

The Seminoles typically like Bigger, Physical corners. For instance, take a look at the measurements of the current starting Cornerbacks for the Noles. Junior CB Ja'Carius Kidd, who's pegged as a early First Round pick and the NCAA leader in interceptions with 8, is 6'2" 213 pounds. The opposite Cornerback of Kidd is Sophomore CB Eric Igwe, who is 6'2" 206 pounds. Last year's starting Cornerback Isaac Boles, who now is a starter for the New England Patriots is 6'3" 200 pounds.

Insert True Freshman Thomas Spiller, who is 5'11" 190 pounds. The former Five-Star out of Brownsville, FL may be on the smaller end of Cornerback by FSU's standards has played big for the Seminoles this season.

                      High School Profile

He plays so big. He's such a competitor. Seems like he plays better the bigger the receiver he goes against. Him and (teammate) Ja'Christian Anderson (who is 6'6" 225) are always going at it in practice. And Thomas gets his fair share of wins. He is just a football player. And football players make plays." said Junior DB Luron Dixon

Spiller has the respect of his teammates, and definitely has the attention of the country as well. Wake Forest Offensive Coordinator also noticed Spiller when he's on the field during his weekly press conference.

"They have a very physical Defensive Backfield. They play the ball well. Probably as well as anyone in the country. They have True Freshman that step in and play like Seniors. #1(Thomas Spiller) jumps out at you immediately on film. Teams normally try to attack him when they see he's in spelling someone, and he delivers pretty well on those challenges." he said.

                      RECRUITING

The Seminoles have seen a surge recently with commitments. And after beating Louisville last week, the Noles were able to nab two Four Star commitments. DT J.T. Jackson, and ATH Santana Goodman.

ATH Santana Goodman 6’7” 225 Ft. Walton Beach, FL
                      #80 overall, #5 ATH

Goodman at 6'7" is one heck of an athlete that can play a number of different positions. He has very good speed and unbelievable range. It is unlikely he will play reciever as he lacks the top end speed to compete at the next level, however Tight End or anywhere on Defense is a possibility. The Noles love recruiting versatile players than can do a number of different things for you and Goodman is exactly that kind of athlete.

NT J.T. Jackson 6’3” 340 Ft. Pierce FL
                      #279 overall, #17 DT

The Seminoles have a need to refill yearly to replenish their Nose Tackles. However Jackson isn't your normal Nose Guard even though he has the elite size you want to anchor the middle. Jackson plays a number of different positions for his High School, including Running Back albeit being 340 pounds. He's very nimble, and athletic for his size. The Seminoles love his upside.

Also, Reserve Pass Rushing specialist Sophomore Alaadin Bouye has been ruled out against the Demon Deacons as he nurses a hamstring injury.

C Cole Chinndell who was out last week for concussion symptoms will also be out this week as well as he has yet been cleared to play from the concussion symptoms last week. Redshirt Freshman Ala Hali'a'aloha will start at Center for the second consecutive week. OG Anthony Branch has been cleared to play after missing last week with concussion symptoms and will start.

                          UP NEXT: #13 SYRACUSE (7-1)

                          ABC ON ESPN 8:00 PM/ET

                          SOMETHIN' HAS TO GIVE

That's been the silver lining all week. Something has to give. The Seminoles (8-0) will host the Orangemen (7-1) in the Seminoles first ranked match up since September. The Orangemen are led by Junior Max Fields who is ranked 3rd in the nation in passing. The Seminoles, are currently ranked 8th in the country in passing defense. Although the Seminoles have the #1 ranked rush defense in the country, that isn't Syracuse's strong point. They want to throw the ball, and throw the football a lot. And that philosophy has the Orange ranked #13 in the country sitting at 7-1 with the #1 spot in the ACC Atlantic Division on the line. Head Coach Cameel Verner knows what all is at stake come Saturday.

"Tough game Saturday. One heck of a team we have on our hands. They have a Quarterback that can distribute the ball extremely well. They have receivers that are going to test you. We've got to prepare our team very well. A lot will be on the line. Our guys must play with urgency. This a heck of a team"

                          WALKER TO START VS 'CUSE

Florida State announced that QB Sha'Dar Walker will be the starter vs Syracuse Saturday. There was speculation all week on who would start after Walker struggled for most of the season including last game was pulled last weekend against Wake Forest. In relief duty, Clay Tillman came in and went 6/8 159 yards and 2 TDs against the Demon Deacons. Offensive Coordinator Hayden Kiser spoke on the decision to start Walker.

"We feel he gives us our best option to win. He's had a good week of practice. " said Kiser.

                          PASS RUSH WILL BE KEY

George Phillips is Tied for 2nd in the Nation in sacks with 9.5

The Noles who have one of the best Pass Rushing units in the country will be on display against the Syracuse passing attack. The 'Cuse checks in at #3 in the country in passing offense. However the Noles have the Nations top sack leader in Robert Tate with 11.5, and George Phillips (T2nd) 9.5. The Seminoles pass rush is a big reason why the Noles have a nation leading 21 interceptions on the season.

"We have to put pressure on their Quarterback" said Defensive Lineman Marvin Dickerson. "He is the heart and soul of that Offense , we've got to make him uncomfortable"

The Noles will put that pass rush to the test Saturday on primetime television.

                          RECRUITING

The Seminoles recieved a few big time pledges this past weekend.

TE E.J. Ward 6’5” 240 Ft. Walton Beach, FL
                          #231overall, #9 TE

Ward has been a long time Seminole lean that finally decided to pull the trigger for the Seminoles. He's an extremely physical Tight End that also has the athletic ability to split out wide.

WR Kyar Dotson 6’5” 202 Ft. Pierce FL
                          #131 overall, #31 WR

Dotson is a freak of a reciever. He's also a basketball and lacross player in high school. Reportedly ran a 4.45 at Nike Sparq Camp event. He's a very tall and rangy reciever. At 6'5" creates mismatches all over the field. He is the first receiver commit of the class.

                          C Luke Davis 6’6” 305 Amory, MS
                          #638 Overall, #16 C

One thing Davis has is size. He has a frame to work with on the interior and is a big time run blocker. Needs work on his pass protection but as a project that can develop in the system he fits the need of what OC Hayden Kiser wants to do moving forward.

OT Kyle Collier 6’6” 335 Frostproof, FL
                          #171 overall, #9 T

Collier is a massive lineman prospect that the Seminoles are high on. With the shift of this new pro style attack, and the Noles wanting to be more phyiscal upfront this recruitment is a big one. He's a massive road grader that will give the Noles what they want upfront moving forward.

                          COMMITTED PROSPECTS

                          CB Tedarius Brown

FIRST COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RANKINGS RELEASED

                          1. FLORIDA STATE (8-0) (ACC)
                          2. MIAMI (8-0)(American)
                          3. WEST VIRGINIA (8-0)(ACC)
                          4. CLEMSON (8-0)(ACC)
                          5. MINNESOTA (8-0) 6. TEXAS (8-0)

The initial College Football Playoff rankings have been released. And in the first rankings, there are 3 ACC teams in the initial college football playoff. Florida State has a date with Syracuse this weekend to decide first place with Clemson. And neither Syracuse nor Florida State has yet to face off versus Clemson. There is a ton of football left to be played, but with Florida State, Clemson and West Virginia all representing the ACC, it's possible the ACC will yet again get a representative in the College Football playoff.

The Seminoles last week won a dog fight of a contest against Syracuse. This week doesn't get any easier as the 7-2 Wolfpack will play host to the Seminoles. The Wolfpack were a team on fire last week winning 5 straight games coming into last weeks contest vs #3 Clemson (9-0) and ultimately falling short of that contest. However, the Wolfpack still have a chance to finish ontop of the Atlantic Division, and a win against the Seminoles will put them a half game behind the number one spot. Head Coach Cameel Verner understands fully the stakes ahead this weekend.

"We got a huge battle this weekend ahead of us. They are a heck of a team. Just like last week they will be prepared. They are hungry and we have to be ready. This will undoubtedly be a test."he said.

Tez Rivas leads the Wolfpack against the #1 team in the nation this weekend, as he has completed 63% of his passes this season for 25 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. The Dual Threat Quarterback has the full attention of Defensive Coordinator Ryan Dukes.

"He's mobile , smart and experienced. He brings a heck of a challenge to our defense. Containing him will be a huge priority. " he said.

NOLES PASS RUSH AMONG NATION'S BEST
Robert Tate leads the country in sacks with 11.5

The Seminoles defense for the most of the season has been a smothering unit. But everyone will agree that the heart of the Noles defense has been up front. And the Noles have a pair of Seminoles that have caused a lot of havoc up to this point of the season.

                              High School Profile

Tate, a Redshirt Junior, opted to come back this year as he was draft eligible last season has made the most of his return. Tate didn't receive the draft grade he wanted and has quite possibly turned himself into a 1st Round draft pick with his play this year. Tate leads the nation in sacks with 11.5. His teammate counterpart, George Phillips is second in the country in sacks with 10.5. Both players have played a huge role in the play of the defense this fall.

"He plays all over the defensive front for us. Edge, 3 tech, 1 tech. He does a lot for us. He wanted to get better this year, and he's done well. We're going to need him big time against the Wolfpack. They really can hurt you in a lot of ways in the passing game." said Defensive Coordinator Ryan Dukes

                              GAME VS WOLFPACK SIGNIFICANT

The game this weekend vs NC State is a significant one in the ACC Atlantic. Theres a two way tie for First and Second in the division. A loss for the Wolfpack can essentially eliminate them from contention. A loss from the Seminoles could put them behind the 8 ball as well with Clemson looming next weekend as well. If the Wolfpack beat the Noles, the Wolfpack will have the Head to Head tie breaker.

With all that being said, this weekend has a lot at stake with ACC implications on the line, as well as National implications for the Seminoles. Head Coach Cameel Verner fully understands the situation.

"We've got a lot on the line. The ACC Championship is one of our goals. We have to stay headfast and understand nothing will be given to us. The Wolfpack are one heck of a team. We have to prepare our guys. We've come a long way but we have to continue to push. " said Verner.

THREE ACC TEAMS MAKE UP CFP

Going into the weekend there are three teams in the ACC that make up the college football playoff. West Virginia has all but wrapped up the ACC Coastal. While Florida State and Clemson are still fighting to be crowned Atlantic Champions.

"It shows how far our conference has come. " said Cameel Verner "We've got some great teams in our conference. Every game has a meaning. Still a lot of football left for us. We've got a big game on the road this weekend and that's where our focus is. That's what we can control." he continued.

The Noles will be without 3 Seminoles this weekend due to injury. RB Jardai Slaughter (6'1" ,220), TE David Davis (6'5", 250) and DE Marvin Dickerson (6'8" 290). Both Slaughter and Davis are reserves but play a big part of the Seminoles team, while Dickerson has started every game this season at Edge.

With the absence of Slaughter, we expect Freshman Vontae Marshall to see more carries at the reserve RB position. With Davis being out, Toole returns after being suspended the last 3 games to violation of NCAA rules. Dickerson will spelled by Edge Alaadin Bouye as he will make his first collegiate start.

Here. We. Go. Primetime action, Conference Rivals, National Television, ACC Title on the line, College Football Playoff implications on the line. It doesn't get any better than this. The #1 Florida State Seminoles (10-0, 8-0 ACC) travel to Death Valley to take on the #3 Clemson Tigers (10-0, 8-0 ACC). Winner goes to the ACC Championship in Charlotte. Winner could all but punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff. Head Coach Cameel Verner knows exactly what is at stake in this contest.

Cameel Verner has Florida State 10-0 on the season

"This is why you come to Florida State. This is what you sign up to play for. Games like this. Opportunities like this. It's sink or swim. It's what you practice for. It's what you sweat for. It's what you train for. Athletes are created in games like this. And we wouldn't want it in no other form or fashion. That's for sure. Our kids better be ready." said Verner.

The Seminoles will have their hands full with Clemson Senior Quarterback Heath Watson. the 6'6" 240 pound Quarterback from Kingston,NC has thrown for 3,147 yards with 29 touchdowns and 3 interceptions on the season. Once again this weekend, the Pass Rush will have to be on full display to keep Watson contained. LB/Edge Hybrid George Phillips knows exactly what Watson can do if left unattested.

"We've watched a ton of film on him this week. He's super accurate. Has a ton of poise. We have to get him off his landmark though. The more he moves, the more uncomfortable he is, so we have to really get after him. He's as lethal as it gets." said Phillips.

The Seminoles lead the nation in sacks, and have two of the the nation's leader in sacks with both George Phillips and Robert Tate both with 11.5. The Seminoles also lead the nation in interceptions with Ja'Carius Kidd leading the nation in interceptions with 9.

"It's going to take a total defensive effort. From the back end to the front end, it's going to take all of us." said Kidd. "When the D-Line gets pressure it makes it easier for us to make plays. They have a good offense, we got to juts be ready to make plays."

                                2 QB System vs Clemson

OC Hayden Kiser confirms 2 QB system vs Clemson

During the weekly press conference, Offensive Coordinator Hayden Kiser confirmed that the Seminoles will play both Redshirt Junior QB Clay Tillman, and Sophomore Sha'Dar Walker throughout the game. The Seminoles tried a 2 QB system earlier in the season against a win vs Wake Forest. Saturday night vs Clemson, we should see it yet again.

"We believe both of their strengths can help us this game." said Kiser "They both have positives in their game we believe we can use to our advantage. We've had a heck of a week in preparation. We will be ready to roll"

                                RECRUITING NEWS

With the addition of new Defensive End Radavius Butler, the Seminoles recruiting class is almost compelte. The Seminoles are still in the hunt for top Five-Star recievers Justin Moore and Keonte King. However, the Seminoles are now looking to add a last minute Quarterback addition to this class. The staff does not want to have two Quarterbacks on it's roster like this season as they are Redshirting Ko'Dallas Avery and Terry Washington. They would like to keep atleast 3 active Quarterbacks at all times. The Seminoles are also looking to add atleast 1 more Offensive Lineman to the class as well.
