NOLES WIN IN THRILLER 38-35

What a rollercoaster of a game. The Seminoles jumped out to a very quick 21-0 lead vs the Wolfpack at home with Playoff and ACC Atlantic implications on the line. However the Noles would squander as the Wolfpack would inch its way back into the game and end up taking a 35-31 lead late into the 4th quarter. With 14 seconds left in the game, QB Clay Tillman would connect with Junior WR Jamar Reid for a 13 yard Touchdown that would be the game winner for the Seminoles.

"We didnt play our best game. But we found a way to win. It's been a crazy year all over the country, even here in Tallahassee, so you relish the wins that you do get. We found a way to finish. Finishing has been something we've implemented since the start of camp. So now we just have to go back, look at the film and see where we can improve our club." said Head Coach Cameel Verner.

Quarterback Clay Tillman had an amazing game after struggling in recent weeks. The Redshirt Sophomore finished the game 22 for 31, 331 yards and 4 Touchdowns. And more importantly, 0 turnovers. Redshirt Freshman B.J. McDaniel also saw action as he went 6 for 7 for 43 yards.

On the ground, the Noles dominated as Sarderrious Minter had a breakout game with 27 carries for 154 yards (5.7 ypc). He carried the load for the Noles and also had 70 yards after contact. In the air, Jamar Reid led all receivers with 11 catches for 175 yards and 3 touchdowns, while fellow receiver Kennard Thomas had 5 catches for 121 yards and 1 Touchdown.

"By the numbers, we played pretty good offensively. However, we didn't play very good situationally. We stalled way too often on drives that could have put the game away. Luckily, we didn't turn the ball over. " said OC Tommy Bowden.

As for the defense, NC State Quarterback Titus Rivas was on fire. He finished 21 for 24 386 yards with 3 Touchdowns. The Noles were able to hold the Wolfpack to 95 total yards rushing on the evening. Freshman LB David Grier led Florida State tacklers with 11 on the night with a pass break up. The pass rush finally showed it's head agains the Wolfpack as the Noles were able to register 5 sacks on the night, with Junior DE/LB Kenyatta Bimbo leading the way with a season high 3 sacks on the night.

NOLES CLINCH ATLANTIC DIVISON

The Noles found a way to squeak past NC State this past weekend and now with a Syracuse loss last weekend to Clemson, the Noles are Atlantic Division Champions. Coach Cameel Verner on Monday's presser shared his feelings on the Noles winning the Atlantic for the third consecutive season.

"Winning in this conference isn't easy so we are elated to have the honor of clinching the division. That was one of our goals we placed ahead of us in the pre-season. But we still have a lot of football left to play and Clemson is a big on this weekend" He said.

Clemson has had a rollercoaster season up to this point. The Tigers started the season 1-3, after finishing last season 11-2. After a horrendous start, the Tigers now sit at 5-5 with a surprising upset last weekend against #24 Syracuse at home. The Tigers are now 1 win away from being bowl eligible with two games looming vs the Seminoles and against South Carolina. And the Tigers now have the chance to become bowl eligible and also spoil Florida State's playoff chances this weekend with a win.

"They are a extremely talented team. Do not let the record fool you. The have NFL talent up and down that roster. We most definitely have to prepare our kids because this team is really good." said Coach Verner.

The Noles have the ACC Atlantic Division locked up even if the Tigers upset the Noles. However, the Noles are fighting for a spot for the College Football playoff as well. So although the match-up for the ACC Championship between Duke and FSU has been set, the Noles still want to compete for a third straight championship.

"We definitely have a three-peat in our minds. But coach has always told us to take things one game at a time. So we can't overlook a good Clemson team this weekend. It's going to take all of us to make sure we come out with a victory" said Junior Running Back Sarderrious Minter.

Clemson has superstar Quarterback Sidney Fisher who before the season started was the #2 Quarterback on Mel Kiper's draft board. He still has first round grades albeit battling injuries this season.

Linebacker William Pettway leads the Tigers all over the defense and is mostly considered a first round talent at the Linebacker position. At 6'5" 232, he does it all for the Tigers.

"He's one heck of a ball player Pettway is. I'm telling you he jumps out at you on film. He's going to make a lot of money one day I will tell you that. But we for sure have to account for him. If I'm not mistaken, he leads the Tigers in all major defensive categories. He's a heck of a plaer." said DC Tim Beckman

NOLES ROUT CLEMSON 33-12

The Noles finish off their regular season campaign in the ACC in impressive fashion dominating Clemson 33-12. The Noles from the opening snap asserted it's dominance as Junior DB J.D. Davis took one of his two interceptions on the day to the endzone to give the Noles the early advantage.

"We played with a sense of urgency. We played with our hair on fire. One of the best overall defensive performances of the year. Lots of football left. We got a hungry Florida team coming to town next week and that's what our attention will shift to" said Head Coach Cameel Verner.

Clay Tillman was extremely efficient on the day going 18/20 196 yards 3 TDs, and his second straight week with no interceptions.

"I feel like we played very well. We played well up front and the recievers made a ton of plays. We've got the ACC wrapped up but we have bigger plans and we most defintely have to take care of the Gators next week. Time to lock in" he said.

Offensively outside of Tillman, the Noles starts RB Sarderrious Minter, 20 carries 106 yards, and WR Jamar Reid both, 8 catches 104 yards 3 TDs both had outstanding performances.

Defensively, Redshirt Freshman DE/LB George Phillips had his breakout game against the Tigers with 9 tackles leading the team with 3 for loss. Defensive Coordinator Tim Beckman raved about Phillips after the game.

"He's such a physical specimen. I'm stoked to see the light finally turn on for him. He has the abliity to do so much for us and I'm just glad to see a performance like that from him. He played extremely well. Sky is the limit for him" he said

The Noles also created a season high 5 turnovers on the day, intercepting Clemson QB Sidney Fisher 5 times. Junior DB J.D. Davis got two of those, and took one for a touchdown, while Junior DB Bihadda Maddox also had two interceptions while Redshirt Sophomore Colton Hathaway got his first interception of his career.

I'm so excited for our defense. We played stingy today which is the reason we were able to play the way we did. We made some plays, got some stops and played pretty sound defense. I loved the effort."

The rivalry vs the Gators does not have as much luster with the Gators struggling this season, and also not being bowl eligible. But it still has a lot on the line as far as the Seminoles are concerned. With #1 Notre Dame Losing this weekend in an upset, the Noles have moved up to #2 in the College Football Playoff rankings, as Georgia Tech has moved to #1. A loss vs an unranked and struggling Florida team could all but end Florida State's postseason Playoff hopes.

"They are the still the same old Florida" said QB Clay Tillman. "We know they are going to come in and play us hard, and at the end of the day it's still a rivalry. One of the best in all sports. So they are going to most definitely give us their best."

The Gators have had a tumultuous season to say the least sitting at 4-7 on the year and 2-6 in the SEC. However, the Noles know that the Gators still have a talented roster that could spoil their playoff chances.

"They are extremely talented up front. They can do somethings, create some matchups that arent very favorable to offenses. We have to do a good job up front on both ends to help our team out. " said Head Coach Cameel Verner Sr.

On the defensive line, the Gators are led by DE Micheal Rivero, and DT Derrick McMillan who lead the all Gator defensive Lineman in tackles for loss. The Gators also have all-world Linebacker Beau Brown on the second level of their defense to account for as well, who is the Gators leading tackler.

JUNIOR WR JAMAR REID ENJOYING STELLAR YEAR

Jamar Reid has 65 catches 961 yards 14 TDs on the year

Former #1 recruit in the country, Jamar Reid is having a heck of a Junior year. Most expect him to forego his Senior year and enter the NFL draft. Reid is standing out amongst one of the deepest Recieving corps in the nation as he has 961 yards receiving on the year to go with 14 touchdowns. at 6'3" 213 pounds, he has given teams fits on the outside.

"He's an explosive playmaker. That's for sure. He's one of the best I've ever been around. He absolutely can do it all. " said Offensive Coordinator Tommy Bowden.

Reid, is a semi-finalist for the Bilitnekoff award which is given to the nation's best WR.

NOLES EDGE GATORS 31-29

The Noles needed a walk off Field Goal yet again this season to edge its rival Florida to keep their Playoff chances alive. The Noles held on to a slim lead for the majority of the game until late in the 4th quarter, the Gators hit Tight End Andre Johnson in the middle of the Endzone to take the lead. After failing the two point conversion, the Gators held on to a 1 point, 29-28 advantage. Seminole Quarterback, Clay Tillman led the Noles down the field and got them in range to take a chance for the game winner.

"Clay play his heart out tonight. He struggled at times, but when the moment mattered the most, he helped us get in position to win. We knew no matter the record the Gators were going to fight us until the very end. They are a good team and we knew that. I'm happy for our kids to find a way to win." Said Head Coach Cameel Verner.

Tillman finished the game 12/24 234 with 2 TDs and 2 Ints. The Noles will most definitely need more production out of their QB play if they want to three-peat as National Champions. But one thing about it, Tillman seems to come through when times matter the most. The marks as the 4th game this season where the game came down to the final play. Head Coach Cameel Verner didn't hide his feelings about that.

"There's two ways you can look at that. But there's only one way we will look at it. And that's our guys find ways to finish. Finishing is the most important thing in this sport. And we've done an amazing job at that." he said.

DB DIXON ECLISPES CENTURY MARK

DB Luron Dixon leads the team in tackles with 110

High School Profile

Former Five-Star DB Luron Dixon of the Seminoles eclipsed the 100 tackle mark this season and is also the team leader in tackles this year. Dixon is putting up All-American type numbers for the Noles this year with staggering numbers. In the year so far Dixon has 110 tackles, 5 for loss, 3 interceptions, 15 pass breakups and 3 defensive touchdowns.

"I'm just doing everything I can for my team" he said "At the end of the day individual accolades and all that is cool, but here in Tallahassee we got one goal in mind and that's to bring another championsip back."

The Sophomore was the #3 rated overall player coming out of High School and so far has lived up to those expectations. He helped bring Florida State a Track and Field National Championship back to Tallahassee in the Spring as he competed in the Triple Jump, and wants to bring a three-peat football Championship back also.

"That's the plan" he said with a smile.

The Seminoles will travel to Charlotte in essentially a road game with the Duke Blue Devils being the opponent for the ACC Championship. The Noles currently sit at #2 in the College Football Playoff and has one last hurdle left to punch their ticket to the playoff on Dec 31.

We have a very, very, good Duke team in front of us. They dont hurt themselves. They play mistake free football. They do a good job of being in the right places and they all have a knack for the football. We've challenged our kids to make sure they are up for the battle because this one will not be easy." said Head Coach Cameel Verner.

The Blue Devils have on their last 6 contests and with a win could also put themselves into consideration to be in the College Football Playoff with a win.

"There is a ton at stake in this game. We know it. They know it. It's going to be a war. They want it just as bad as we do" said Sophomore QB Clay Tillman. "We just have to play assignment football and trust in eachother and everything else will take care of itself."

Quarterback play needs to Improve?

While the defense of Florida State has seen much improvement in the second half of the season, Florida States Quarterback play has been the one inconsistent trend this year. Redshirt Sophomore after being benched earlier in the year after the loss to Baylor, reclaimed his starting role against Wake Forest and has remained the starter ever since. The Noles do not want a revolving door of Quarterbacks in the lineup, so it makes sense sticking with one regardless of his mistakes. And to Tillman's credit, he has 3 come from behind victories this season as well also. But if the Noles want to push for a third national title, the Quarterback play must vastly improve.

"We've liked some things we've seen from Tillman in recent weeks. We also have to do a better job of helping him out and putting him in better positions to succeed as well. " said OC Tommy Bowden

The Noles still continue to play Freshman Sha'Dar Walker in spots, while it's clear he's not ready to full-time take over the QB duties. Tillman has staggering numbers this season throwing for 69% with 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. The decision making and stalling of the offense is what causes for concern for most Seminole fans. The combination of Tillman and McDaniel this season under center ranks Florida State at 109 of 121 FBS teams in 3 and outs. The Noles sometimes go stretches in a game where it just seems impossible to move the ball.

"We have to find a way to get our Quarterbacks comfortable. Once we get in a rhythm I feel as if we are the best in the country." said Bowden.

The numbers also suggest that Bowden's theory is true as well. But in the ACC Championship game and moving forward if the Noles do get past Duke this weekend, those 3 and out numbers most definitely have to improve if the Noles want to bring a third straight championship back to Tallahassee.

RECRUITING NOTES

The Seminoles were able to nab two big time recruits this past weekend. CB Andrew Sullivan and DT Leon Thomas. Thomas was not on Florida States radar originally but he bloomed late in the process and FSU liked what they saw out of him.

Sullivan is a guy FSU has wanted from the jump and believes the West Coast product can deliver an immediate boost to Florida State's secondary either as a Corner or Safety.

TURNOVERS PLAGUE NOLES IN LOSS TO DUKE 20-9

DUKE wins 2031 ACC Championship, 1st in School History

The Noles will not repeat as ACC Champions, and also may have shot themselves in the foot in an opportunity to reach the College Football Playoff for the third consecutive year in an effort to repeat as National Champions.

"I'm proud the way our kids fought this year. It was a very tough year, a year with a lot of ups and downs, but they fought their tails off. They competed. We fell short but we never gave up. I'm very proud of them." said Head Coach Cameel Verner in the post game press conference.

NOLES WENT TO TRUE FRESHMAN FOR HEROICS

The Noles have had Quarterback issues for the most part the entire season with inconsistent play, turnovers and bad decision making. And QB Clay Tillman got off to an extremely rough start against the Blue Devils starting the game 3 for 7 for 53 yards and 3 Turnovers. The Noles either went 3 and out or turned the ball over on their first 5 possessions. And at that point, they looked to former Five-Star, True Freshman QB Sha'Dar Walker.

"Walker has played very good for us all year. And we felt at the time he gave us the best opportunity to win. We knew with the decision we would have to live with some things, but he just gave us the best opporunity at the time." said Cameel Verner.

The Noles have played Walker sparingly in special packages all season long. But nothing in the sense of him being a full time player. That all changed in the Second Quarter of a struggling Noles offense in the ACC Championship game.

"We feel like he did some good things. He had some growing pains as we expected, but he did some really good things for us" said OC Tommy Bowden.

Walker did a very good job of helping get the Noles in striking distance a few times but turnovers did not help the cause as he had 2 fumbles and 2 interceptions on the night.

"As a team we did not take care of the ball. We did horribly as a team as a whole taking care of the football. It's hard to win with 8 turnovers in a championship game." said Cameel Verner.

With the Noles losing in Charlotte, they now await their Bowl destiny.

NOLES WILL PLAY OHIO IN NY6 BOWL

#5 Ohio (13-0) vs #6 Florida State (10-3)

The Seminoles bowl fate was sealed today as the College Football Committee selected it's College Football Playoff. The Nole's lost it's last game to Duke 20-9 in the ACC Championship Game, which ultimately pushed them out of College Football Playoff discussion with their 3rd loss of the year. The #6 Seminoles (10-3) will take on #5 Ohio Bobcats (13-0) in the Chick Fil A Peach Bowl on Dec 31, 2031.

"We preach finishing day in and day out. And we definitely have a plan on finishing the season strong. We are thrilled to represent our university in a New Years Six bowl game, and we must prepare our kids for yet another big time game against a very good Ole Miss team" said Head Coach Cameel Verner.

The Ohio Bobcats were infuriated with their playoff selection. The team from the MAC went 13-0 on the season, and went 8-0 in conference play, and really felt they should have been in the College Football Playoff. They were snubbed by Georgia Tech, who was selected in after finishing the year 9-4.

"We really feel we are one of the best teams in the country. Definitely one of the top four. Our resume speaks for itself. Our kids worked hard all year and that's who I feel bad for. The kids. 12 straight victories are hard to come by. We see it today, this year as a matter of fact. Not sure what else as a team, as a staff, what we could have done to earn it. It's dissapointing. " Said Ohio coach Ryan Pace.

Those comments were made before Ohio knew they were invited to a New Year's Six Bowl game. And he made it very clear on his thoughts after it was announced Ohio would play Florida State on Dec 31.

"In no way form or fashion did I intend to disrespect any of the schools that were selected. Absolutely in no way. However, we are definitely thrilled to be playing on a National stage on New Year's eve against one of the nations top teams. As a school, as a program, this is very exciting for us and we look forward to the challenge" He said.

Georgia Tech however, even with 4 losses, had the most impressive resume of any of the other viable 4th teams. In fact, Tech was sitting at #1 with a 9-3 record going into Conference Championship weekend vs #3 Notre Dame (11-2) and losing that contest 31-17. Even with the loss, Georgia Tech does have a win against Notre Dame earlier in the season on the road. This will be the first time in College Football history where two teams will face off 3 times in one season. Tech also is the only school in the country with 2 or more wins against teams currently in the Top 25. Ohio while undefeated, hasn't beaten anyone in the Top 25. This also will mark the 9th consecutive year a team from the American Athletic Conference will be in the National Championship game with both Notre Dame and Georgia Tech both being from the conference. This also marks Georgia Tech's 5th consecutive trip to the College Football Playoff. They were in the last two National Championship games vs Florida State and ended up losing both.

Ohio may not have gotten an invite to the College Football Playoff, but they do have a chance however, to make a statement by beating the Seminoles on New Year's eve and Proving everyone wrong that says they didn't deserve an invite, that they should've been invited. And if that is the case, it will give the College Football something to seriously think about in an effort to expand the Playoff.

NEW YEARS SIX CHICK FIL A PEACH BOWL

The Noles have date with undefeated Ohio in Atlanta for the Chick Fil A Peach Bowl on New Years eve. Following much controversy after Ohio came in as the #5 team in the country over Georgia Tech (9-4), Stanford (10-3), and Missouri (10-3). After the announcement was made, Ohio coach Ryan Pace made his feelings clear about Ohio being left out the top 4.

The champions of the MAC will most definitely play with a chip on their shoulder against a National Champion opponent, as the Noles prior to this season, won the previous two National Championships and were looking for a three peat this season but fell short.

"Florida State is one heck of a program. They've won what, the last four recruiting championships? Won the last two of three National championships, they have one of the best Head Coaches of all time. We have all the respect in the world for that program. We most definitely have a task in front of us and we must prepare to the best of our ability in order to come out with a victory." said Ohio Head Coach Ryan Pace.

The Seminoles even though they did not reach the College Football Playoff this season which to some, might be a failure, Seminole Head Coach Cameel Verner has the opposite approach.

"It's buisness as usual. We have one heck of a team to play and we are going into this like any other game. If there is score being kept, we are going full throttle. That's how it has been and how it always will be." he said.

OPTING OUT?


Junior WR Jamar Reid will not play in Peach Bowl

Although the Noles are planning a buisness as usual approach to the Peach Bowl, they will have to do so without a number of underclassmen who are declaring for the NFL Draft and will not play in the Peach Bowl. Notably, Former Five-Star WR Jamar Reid who led the Seminoles in receiving this year with 74 catches 1169 yards and 14 touchdowns on the year. The Seminoles will also be without Junior Defensive Back J.D. Davis for the Peach Bowl. Here are a list of the Seminoles who all have opted out of playing on New Years Eve.

FRESHMAN WALKER WILL START IN PEACH BOWL

Head Coach Cameel Verner of the Florida State Seminoles announced today that True Freshman Sha'Dar Walker will start in the Chick Fil A Peach Bowl. This will be Walker's first career collegiate start. Redshirt Sophomore Clay Tillman will serve as the backup.

"Walker will start for us this weekend. He's practiced well leading up to this point. He's done some good things and just feel he's ready to go." said Camel Verner.

SEMINOLES DESTROY OHIO IN PEACH BOWL 56-10

The offense was explosive. The defense was smothering. The Noles clicked on all cylinders as they cruised to a 56-10 victory in Atlanta on Saturday night.

"We knew we had to hunker down and play the way we always feel we should. Playing outside of our element is a reason why we aren't playing for a National Championship this year. But we know if we play Florida State Football there's only one team in the country that can beat us, and thats us." said Freshman QB Sha'Dar Walker.

Walker got his first start of his collegiate career in the Peach Bowl against the Bobcats as previously being mostly utilized as a package player for most of the year. The former Five-Star true Freshman finished 20/37, 398 yards with 6 Touchdowns.

"He played extremely well. He had a heck of a game. People have taken notice to his legs most of the year and weren't able to notice how great of a arm he has. He's done an amazing job all year working and progressing to get where is was today. Very proud of him and the rest of our kids. Walker has a very bright future ahead of him." said Head Coach Cameel Verner Jr.

BENTIO TIPTON TAKES OVER

The Noles had a season high 626 yards of total offense with Walker under center. And coming into the game, a lot of people worried about the Noles production seeing as they were without their top recievers Jamar Reid and Kennard Thomas who both have opted for the NFL Draft and did not play in the Peach Bowl. With the absence of the top two WRs on the team and two potential First Round picks, fans were left scrambling on who would pick up the slack and help a Nole offense that struggled most of the year. Well insert former Five-Star Junior WR Bentio Tipton.

Tipton sometimes seems to be a forgotten man behind the two future First Rounders, who signed with the Seminoles as the third Five-Star WR in the same class with Reid and Thomas. But today, he showed his true potential.

"No one works as hard as I do, man. I know what I'm capable of and I know the time I've put into this thing. My teammates grind, I grind and this is what happens when everyone puts in the work. " said Benito Tipton.

Tipton led all recievers in the Peach Bowl with 7 catches for 154 yards and 1 TD. Even though his numbers look gaudy, the numbers don't even describe how domninant he was the entire night against the Bobcats.

"They couldn't cover him man" siad QB Sha'Dar Walker with a laugh.

SNEAK PEAK OF THE FUTURE?

With the Seminoles missing so many starters that opted out due to declaring for the NFL Draft, the nation got to see potentially players who would be replacing those guys on the roster next season. Notably, at the Receiver spot. Redshirt Freshman WR Chris Brown (6'4" , 215), and True Freshman Ja'Christian Anderson (6'6", 220). Neither played all year, meaning Anderson will be eligible for a Redshirt, while Brown redshirted last season, both dominated the game as well.

"They are very very talented kids. They are so big. And boy are they fast, my gosh are they fast." said OC Tommy Bowden of the two Freshman.

Although Brown and Anderson saw their first action of the season against Ohio tonight, they didn't dissapoint as Brown had 5 catches for 118 yards 3 TDs and Anderson had 2 catches for 70 yards and 2 TDs.

"I cant lie, I love throwing to those guys. You just put it near them and they bring it in. " said QB Sha'Dar Walker. Their size and speed combination seemed to overwhelm the Bobcats.

DIXON CAPS OF AN ALL-AMERICAN SEASON

Dixon had 9 tackles , 2 pass breakups and 1 interception in the Peach Bowl

The unquestioned leader in the secondary Sophomore Luron Dixon had not only an amazing game vs Ohio in the Peach Bowl, but caps off an amazing season. He finished the game with 9 tackles against Ohio which puts him at 130 tackles on the year, and an interception.

"We didn't get the championship that we wanted, but I'm happy we were able to win the Peach Bowl. We aren't going anywhere though. We will be back." said Dixon

Dixon helped the Seminoles to a Track and Field National Championship this past spring, and he will compete once again this off-season in the Long Jump and Triple Jump events. This season though, he says his midframe will be different this time around.

"I know we said it last season, but this season will be different. We are going to repeast as Track Champs, then my focus will fully shift on making sure we go back to the standard of reaching the College Football Playoffs. That's my personal mission right there" he said.

COMMITTEE GETS IT RIGHT, AGAIN?

There was much speculation of there should be an expansion to the College Football Playoff this year as Ohio was left out of the Playoff after being moved to #5. The Bobcats were the only undefeated team left in College Football, and most of the country felt that Ohio should have gotten a shot. Instead, a 9-4 Georgia Tech team got the spot at #4.

However, Ohio was matched up against the two time defending National Champion Seminoles in the Peach Bowl, and Ohio wasn't very competitive to say the least. The Bobcats were outgained 626 to 292 on the night, and only completed 25% of its 3rd downs.

"Florida State is a heck of a ball club. They are disciplined, they are fast, and physical. They kicked our tails in every facet of the game. They are a very good team. I'm still proud of my kids and the season they had. Nothing to be ashamed of. We had a heck of a year." said Pace.

Based on the outcome of the game, it seems the committee gets to rest easy atleast one more year.
