I’ve definitely noticed an added challenge as a user with HFA ON while I’m on the road. The play art is scrambled, enough you can barely see what the route is receiver icons are question marks, the whole 9 yards. I’ve also noticed it takes a lot longer for my QB to settle in and get on target compared to home games. With HFA off or using coaching trees, this stuff is all gone. It has made road games more fun, I entirely forgot it would scramble play art.

Defensively it’s hard to say, because mine is so hit and miss. I never know if they will play well lol.

When HFA is OFF for my home games, I’m unsure honestly. Both my home games have been slow starts, but huge blowouts. Both road games have been close the whole way through. So it’s been a small sample size, but it is possible HFA really only applies to users on the road.

As we all know, however, there’s a lot of factors to determine a game outcome. So I’ll keep doing it and report back once I have more games under my belt.

I've had it off for so long that I had forgotten that stuff too. It also makes the controller shake. I was testing some stuff the other day and had it on and it shocked me lol.

Yeah, I never messed with it before, but coaching skills counteracted it. Then in 2022, I had a good QB so he kept his cool and didn’t experience it. Now, with only freshmen at Qb, I’m seeing it all over again and I love it

Yeah my freshman QB has been awful on the road and pretty good at home. It takes way more to get him in rhythm as opposed to a home game. I do have HFA off when I'm the home team.

Requoting this because I just re-read the description of Home Field Advantage:

"Various effects could be placed on your players when you are the Away Team such as players being rattled (controller vibrating), scrambled play art on the field, and potential AI mistakes like false starts."

The fact it says "your" players leads me to believe that HFA effects only the USER during away games, and turning it off has no impact for home games. I'll keep turning it off out of superstition for the time being...

I think it boosts your players at home. I think you're right in that it doesn't affect actual CPU ratings though, it just boosts/nerfs your guys.

After my first two home games with it OFF and recording huge blowouts, I think the user HFA is automatic. I think it’s purely a user thing for extra challenge on the road. I’ll keep turning it off for home games though.

Yeah I have noticed that I'm still better at home even with it off. But that's realistic, I have no issue with that.

The Game Outside of the Game - Issues and How to Fix Them

Something I also started doing is no using the MLB in run defense. I started midway through my game. I have gotten really good using MLB over the years, so I have a really good reaction on runs. If I can get the RB, it’s for a loss.

To remedy this, on a typical running down say 1st down or a short situation, I use the safety. It takes me out of the box and lets the rating decide who wins in the trenches. Meanwhile, I still get to play.

Also on passes, no user rush. I have to be in coverage. I can use anyone, but must be in man or zone. Blitzing as a user is too easy for me.

As I said I kind of decided these midway through a game, so results are limited, but I thoroughly enjoyed it

Yeah I've gone away from using the linemen, really helps make the pass rush more realistic. I can take a 75 overall end and get him 10 sacks a year pretty easily if I control him every play. I use the MLB a lot but I don't usually touch him until after his initial reaction. My reactions to runs aren't great though tbh, I jump at everything and I've given up quite a few big runs off cutbacks. I usually switch it up every drive, like I'll still user an end cause pass rush is fun, but not every play. I'll go to a backer or a safety.

I've gotten very comfortable at not really using anyone on defense. I find that usering a player at any position -- given enough time with them -- makes too much of an impact. Plus, I think of myself as a head coach who is also offensive coordinator, so it makes sense that my guy would be more hands off on defense.

Do you call the plays and watch or just watch via super sim? I used to watch in super sim, just wondering if there is any difference.

I'll echo Tuscaloosa and say "how are you doing this?" Playing, but just not touching the controller on defense so the AI takes over?

On 1st down, or short down situations, I've reserved myself to a backside safety with over the top coverage. That way, I'm basically 100% out of the play if its a run, unless the RB breaks free.

On passing, I'll drop in zone with my backer and patrol the middle of the field. I get sucked out of my zone enough that I don't dominate it lol. I've decided for now, I will not rush the passer at all, even on a blitz.

I call plays and just don't touch the controller. Best part is that if I get the itch to want to play defense, I can user a player for a handful of plays and it keeps that itch down a bit. It's easier for me to just not touch the controller than to limit myself so much with not rushing the passer on a blitz and things like that.

I may try that, but I feel like I would get bored lol. My other option is player lock. I really struggle with that
