If you like to run stretch plays, switch to a zone run scheme and get linemen who excel in that archetype.
    • Make liberal use of 'ID the Mike', line shifts, flip play, and even the coach adjustments for holding blocks.
    Disparity? on user side maybe. But everyone agree that CPU rushing sucks on default lol

      CPU running game is much stronger default AP with cpu run block on 60, and user tackling at 35. I’m loving the challenge.

        In all fairness, Booker, he did say user side and clarified it in a post later.

        I don't have the game yet, but someone did offer a suggestion to play it on normal speed and the CPU presents a better challenge, default and all.

          So I was running back some replays on plays where my RB was tackled immediately. Sometimes the interior linemen literally ignore the d-line and run straight to the second level. No trap or pulling guard. Just straight up ignore them. Other times the actual hand off is very delayed, and/or the runner comes to a full stop as he takes the ball before accelerating. So it's like the lines are battling full speed while the QB and RB are taking their sweet f***ing time and then splat. It is definitely not just user error or a learning curve. It can be 100% broken. Now the question becomes: is this just "RNG" or is it the formation/play or is it something else?

              So I was playing MUT last night and started to see what you guys meant by it was so hard to run! I had I think about 10 carries in 3 games (total of 30 carries) for about 3 yards, I kid you not.

              I went back and looked at my lineman and aside from Travis Frederick ELITE everyone was like 68 OVR. So I spent a little of the 50,000 coins that came with the game and upgraded all my lineman to about 78 or 79 across the board.

              First game using the new lineman I rushed 8 times for 37 yards.

              So I guess my point is it may not just be your technique (although it may be LOL) at rushing but also how good or bad your line is. Apparently the lineman ratings in Madden really matter now.

              That also might explain why I was saying it was not that difficult because I was using the Cowboys who have the best line in football and I know some of you are using other teams that may not be as good.

                It is 100% about making reads now vs just trying to get the edge. If your front side hole is stuffed you have to look backside quick. If there is not backside cut lane then put your head down and use the new push the pile mechanic. This year there isn't a home run available on every play like in years past, sometimes you have to be okay with a 3 yard gain being a win.

                Turbo, hat counts, and reads now make running more similar to passing in the skill it takes to do it. I am a big fan.

                      Based on my little play it seems like lineman ratings actually matter this year. Playing with a crap offensive line, I could barely rush for 50 yards on 15 carries, playing with the Cowboys I ran for over 100 with ease. Still need a bigger sample size though.

                        I played my third game tonight and finally had success in the run game.

                        Previously I was pressing the sprint button as I got to the Los. I realised that seemed to trigger the blocks being shed so I started to not touch the sprint button unless I had some open field and it made so much difference! Not only that but it is soooooo satisfying to break a decent run. My whole opinion has changed quite quickly and I really hope they keep it the same.

                        My only concern is it appears the CPU still has trouble running, I wouldnt mind seeing this tweaked in a patch.

                          Yep this is what I said above, the OL ratings really matter a lot now which I think is great. No more plugging in a 65 rated OVR lineman to replace that 89 rated OVR lineman and expecting the same results.

                            Are you going to adjust sliders? I've heard putting up CPU blocking to like 60 and lowering the HUMAN TACKLE rating to like 30 makes a huge difference.

                              My only concern with this is that instead of it being a realistic CPU running game, it will be more of a missed tackle fest...

                                This is true, good point, but I will say some missed tackles may be realistic. In the real NFL you don't see the first guy making the tackle most of the time like you tend to in Madden.
