Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?

I play with the Browns, so obvious caveat with the way our oline is. But I've stacked the leftside of the line a bit and it's helped in pass protection, but I still can't get any push. I've gone with Bitonio - Zietler - Tretter - Corbett - Hubbard to try to at least have a strong side of the offense that I can use/worry about less.

Sadly, I've still had no luck whatsoever with Chubb. It seems like even when I see a hole and get ready to break for it, someone immediately instasheds the block before I can make the move. On other plays, as soon as I finish the handoff animation there are 3-4 guys in my backfield. I've had slightly more success with Duke, but it sucks having to start each drive with what seems like 2nd and 10 or longer. (I don't spam turbo or anything as well)

Part of it I'm sure is our OL, as I had a little more success playing around with the Saints in practice mode, but still no real continued success as I would like. I've been playing on All Madden by the way.

Also, has anyone tried the skill trainer yet? The first drill is RB VS LB where you are prompted to try different moves IE: Spin, Juke, Truck, Stiff arm ETC ETC. This is so difficult it took me over 20 times just to get bronze. I challenge anyone to go try this when they get a chance and let me know how they fare. I want to know what I'm doing wrong it makes no sense but either the defender never gets juked or it's "poor timing" then I'm literally getting a stiff arm animation on the defender.

I just popped into the skills trainer as you suggested. IF that doesn't show something is out of whack with the run game or ball carrier logic versus the D I'm not sure what does. All you have to do is watch, and feel how the momentum and changes of direction affect your player, and watch as the defensive guy just glides around out there as if he's weightless. None of the same effects apply. Madden has always been this way, but it's especially bad this year with the addition of RPM I assume. Then, combine that with some long, drawn out animations and it's just like you have no control.

I'm all for a challenge, sure, but it's to the point where it's not even fun to try and run the ball anymore, it's just a wasted playcall especially when it's so easy to pass.

The special moves, are odd... In the basic running drill when it asks you to truck the defender I run right at the defender, push the RS up for truck, and my RB lowers his shoulders, but as contact comes, he spins out of the tackle, I score the TD, but get a fail because I didnt successfully execute the truck move. Huh?? lol I didnt press spin, I trucked. Soemthing isn't right with it.

Zone running and stretches are historically good Madden runs because if you can get the edge with a fast back they work. This year they really are one cut runs which have a lot of people struggling to make them work. Power plays tend to be a little more straightforward on the read you are supposed to make so I have found for a lot of people they are more effective.

And, here is the problem I have with Madden in a nutshell (though it is what makes others love Madden). The primary thing in Madden is the skill of the gamer. I don't want that. I am an offline franchise guy. I want the primary thing to be the skills/ratings of the players on the field. I know I am in the minority, since egames and online gaming is really popular these days, but this is just not what I am looking for. I was intending to buy Madden this year (since it is back on the PC), but now I am leaning toward not. A strong OL, and an elite RB, should lead to a decent running game, even if I am not a skilled gamer (which I am not). Has anyone like me (ie: not a skilled gamer) tried a lower skill level to see if things work more on the ratings of the players?

I'm glad someone's tried it. Clearly it has issues but just trying things VS the computer it really shows you how the gameplay is in regards to running the ball. Not only is it not fun it just really makes no sense.

Also, I was playing squads last night and all game Lesean Mccoy felt like he's running in quicksand. The runningback also feels VERY slow. There was a play where the WR caught it and the ball was lateraled to Mccoy who then was easy to control. I made two guys miss and scored a TD. This is the same player, no fatigue issue and feeling COMPLETELY different because it wasn't a run play.

I tried the beta out and the first half of the beta, I couldn't garner anything out of the run game. They put out an update and I laid off that sprint button and found holes like I haven't seen in the run game in prior Madden's.

Also, all those moves can be turned on and automated.

I'm not sure it's so much about skill with running more so understanding how to read a run, it's just something players have never had to do. A good HB and o line open bigger holes, break more tackles, etc. making the reads easier/less harsh, but it still comes down to not being able to bounce everything outside.

Running is hard as hell for me at the moment. Once the game drops I'll mess with the skills trainer.

I honestly love the run game this yr. I've had to adjust some sliders to my liking, but it has been a lot of fun this yr so far.

Your last two words are the key, so far.

I really don't want anything to happen or change to the user run game this year, it takes more practise and patience this year.

One of think that makes the running game less effective than it should be is the number of hit stick or complete momentum stopping tackles that happen in the game. I know that it's a video game, but every running back in the game would basically be in a coma if they got hit with 10-15 decleating tackles like they do every game in this Madden.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

I've noticed that as well. Some of the tackles occurring "up the middle" look really nice. I've seen runners that get hit from the side or on an angle are still able to continue to wiggle and fall forward. However, in the open field hit stick tackles occur way too often, which is unfortunate because they look really nice when they happen. I feel the problem lies with the over-the-top frequency which takes away from the dynamic of the animation itself.

Yeah I think you are right, in simulation mode anyways it happens too often, they should tone it down at least for simulation mode.

Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?

I got great performance in the run game from the CPU and passable performance from my own backs during EA Access. I'm not at all concerned about that.

Here's what I did to open up the run (the full setup will come out in Raider Ren's slider thread in a few days):

                              Face Mask @ 40
                              HUM RBK @ 70-75
                              CPU RBK @ 60-65
                              HUM FUM @ 55
                              CPU FUM @ 55

These settings allowed me to get into the high 3s and low 4s, which is a number that will improve as I continue to learn RPM.

The CPU was in the 4s and higher, and I got absolutely torched by David Johnson, so I'm feeling like the CPU is more than capable.

I'm on All Madden, normal speed.
