Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?
Depends on the back for me.
Playing on All Pro, default sliders, with mixed teams, I have the best results with quick-hitting 3rd-down style backs, running out of shotgun using zone runs (Which have historically been really effective runs).
For instance, Sony Michele and Rex Burkhead are really effective runners for me, but James White and Mike Gillislee are unable to get more than 1 or 2 yards at a time. Most of the carries for Michele and Burkhead come out of shotgun sets using inside zones.Comment

I also will say that this may be related to the plays that many of us call on defense as well. But yeah I know that's no excuse, just saying.
I am a bit more optimistic though after adjusting sliders that with slider adjustments we can get the CPU to where it should be, at least if my game against the Giants and then against the Panthers is any indicator.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?
All of the people that are having the run game issues is actually quite shocking to me because I am having great success running the ball. Patience is key this year. I have literally not touched turbo on a running play on almost four games. You really don't even need it. I broke a 65 yard run on a hb crack toss yesterday without using turbo. This year when you hit turbo that seems to cause the super human AI block shed so try laying off turbo at all costs.
For people having trouble with the run game go into the skills trainer and do the drills repeatedly without using turbo at any cost. Also keep in mind that his year your not always supposed to go where he run is diagrammed on every play. I know this was the MO for past maddens but honestly I have gotten some of my best runs on inside runs where I have had to cut to the opposite side of where my run is diagrammed.
Something else that has helped me this year is when I snap the ball I am not even looking at my running back or quarterback. Why would I? The hand off is never muffed. I keep my eyes strictly focused on the offense line. Watching the offensive line only the first few seconds of the play will tell you everything you need to know about where to go after the play.
But most important tip I can give anyone is do not use turbo!!!!!
I have only broken 100 yards rushing with a single player in about 2 out of 20 games. I average around 82-96 yards a game with about anywhere from 4.0 yac to about 5.8 yac. Keep in mind that if you average even 80 yards a game over a 16 game season you would eclipse 1,280 yards rushing on the season which is an amazing total. Remember only 9 players rushed for over 1,000 yards last year so this is quite realistic. Everyone always claims they want realism but when they get it they are not happy.
Another tip is take what the defense is giving you. Even if your playing with a pass heavy offense if the defense keeps showing pass defense don't be afraid to audible to the run. I had my best rushing game (148 yards) so far this year with a game I played as the colts. The jets just kept showing me passing formations so I just kept aubidling to the run. Also don't be afraid to put players in motion on run to create mismatches or switch the side you are running to for a better hat count advantage.
The main problem I am seeing with the run game is CPU ability to run just like everyone else. I am also noticing that simulated stats for Elusive RB's in power run schemes is not very good. I understand that this is not the optimal scheme but shady mccoy has been in a power running scheme for the last 4 years in buffalo and should not be averaging 2.8 yards a carry because he is not a scheme fit. The best running backs should be effective regardless of scheme. It's mind blowing when I go into stats screen at the end of a CFM season and see good running backs with 170 carries averaging 3.0 yards a carry or less. Shouldn't be happening.Last edited by Therebelyell626; 08-07-2018, 10:59 AM.Comment

Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?
Guys, I am a Bengal's fan. They have a weak line and the RBs are average. Therefore, I am not surprised that I am having a terrible time running the ball. Mixon and Giovonni just are not getting the job done.
Has anyone else had success with weak running teams? Or, should I just experiment around with other teams?Comment

Thanks for the quick response. This depresses me. Playing with another team just isn't the same.Comment

Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?
This is 100% right. I stopped holding turbo until I got in the open field and I actually just busted off a 48 yard TD with Fournette. By far my longest run so far in this years game. It also seems like your skill moves work alot better if you havent hit turbo yet. I'm breaking alot of tackles with CPU tackle at 40. Might have to go back up to 50. Great advice though. And thank you.Streaming PC & PS5 games, join me most nights after 6:00pm ET on TwitchTV https://www.twitch.tv/shaunh20

Re: Anyone find any semblance of a running game yet?
How important is it to put the game speed on normal? I just played my first game using the Browns (All-Pro, Slow) and my run game was just absolutely destroyed. I think I averaged like <2 YPC. I don’t believe I used the sprint button even once because I wasn’t getting past the line of scrimmage. Biggest thing I saw was DTs getting penetration, and the backside edge was destroying my mesh point.Comment
