Re: Official CBA Thread
While true, it's hard to get excited about Detroit/Cleveland for example. Of the 16 NFL games on a given weekend, I'd say maybe 3 or 4 really get my attention."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Official CBA Thread
Fantasy Football, and being fans of players and not just teams (Calvin Johnson, Peyton Hillis, Scott Fujita in your two examples) make otherwise boring games more meaningful for me. The maturation of Stafford I am interested in watching too.
Rooting against Mangini was also fun as well, since some obnoxious Browns fans on another forum swore Holmgren was right for retaining him, signing Delhomme, etc... when all of the above were completely awful, both at the time and in hindsight.
In the end, we all watch for a variety of reasons, if what has happened so far is all it takes for you to plan on watching alternatives then how much of a fan were you really to begin with?Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
The MLB commissioner didn't require congressional intervention either. That's the thing about congress... they do what they want. The MLB seemed pretty much fine with the game as it was, roided up and all (chicks dig the long ball). One may say pretty much just like the NFL. If we repeated the string of events that got us to this point and replaced the MLB with the NFL, the results would probably be about the same. And my guess is PEDs have done more damage to football players in one way or another than baseball players, based only on the nature of the sport.
Take your blinders off, man... or at least just say you don't like baseball. Considering all the crap athletes put in their bodies these days (with the average person having no idea the difference between what's allowed and what's not on these lists), the only REAL reason to be mad at players who took steroids would be bc they're illegal. And there's definitely no way anyone can say NFL players don't do anything illegal.Comment

Re: Official CBA Thread
oh they're not blinders, it's 100% personal preference. I became interested in baseball during some of the home run races at the height of what soon after became known as the steroid era. As a result I have no interest in a sport that still has that same commissioner that had to be brought in front of congress before making changes to crack down on blatant cheating.
I am sure some would try and say what Goodell has done is just as bad for football, those are the same people that probably think they are just trying to line their pockets and not actually do anything about player safety, those same people would probably then argue that Harrison's hit on Massaquoi was legal (ignoring the pictures of Harrison airborne, having launched through the guy).
So yeah, it's 100% personal preference, I'd watch Soccer and Bowling before I'd ever get into Baseball.Comment

I can't take any of the games in CFB seriously knowing that their "champion" is determined by biased "voters" and a crooked formula of nonsense math.Comment

Personally, sports are my #1 form of entertainment. I've got no axe to grind with Goodell or Selig. But I find it hard to criticize one sport and praise another around an issue that's clearly run rampant in both. And if that issue is using steroids, it makes even less sense to me when baseball is "bad guy" in the scenario.
All professional (and olympic since many still aren't professional) athletes want to do anything allowed to get an edge on their opponent. When it comes to putting things in their bodies, different morals and fear of health concerns separate the individuals. Feel free to blast cheaters to the high heavens, but steroids was not frowned upon in baseball during the "steroid era" and really aren't frowned upon in football now. And really, it's just another PED that only differs from the PEDs athletes of all sports still use because it's illegal. Like I said, if your issue with the league is allowing so much illegal activity then you should have a big problem with the NFL too.Comment

No doubt, there are plenty of snoozers. None the less, every game is a matchup of top 32 teams. And every week you likely have at least a few matchups of top 10 teams. Can't usually say that about the NCAA...especially in the early part of the season.Comment

I'd say we'll see movement after the 4/6 hearing, but now the players are trying to get Judge Doty to lift the lockout as part of the TV lockout insurance case damages... and that isn't until May.

Re: Official CBA Thread
I don't mean to go out way in left field, but I just can't see there not being football next year. With the economy and jobs still somewhat depressing to talk about, sports (and football in particular) are many American's release. You take that away in lieu of all the other issues we're facing as a country, and I think that it'll be really selfish of both the NFL & NFLPA. They gotta work it out...Comment
