    Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Oh if I'm hacking I get flustered. I will pick up and give myself a timeout...
Luckily so far I haven't had those moments yet this year. My worse has just been bad course management or driving OOB etc...
Ball striking with irons have been decent so far.
If I find fairway I'm golden right now.
Game golfing tomorrow so looking forward to seeing round.. after the round.

      Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

A tale of 2 Nines.... Lol

      Front 9: +3 (39)
Started very shaky with a bogey, double and bogey.....
Then: Birdie, Par, Par, Par, Par, Par.

Was very happy to say the least.

      Back 9:
Started with a Par to have a birdie/par streak of 7 holes.

      Then the freaking blowup hole.
Driver pulled bad OOB... Hit 3 from box etc...
      Ended with an 8..

Rest of back 9 was Bogie, bogie, bogie, par, bogie, double, double
      Total back 9: +12 (47)

      Finished
      +15 (86)

Made the turn excited then got kicked in the balls.

      Some stats (Game Golf)

      Longest Drive 267 / 50% Fairways hit

      Approaches:
      Inside 100 yards
      50% <15 yards / 0% L / 0% R / 25% Short / 13% Long - Need to get this better!

      Outside 100 Yards
      27% <15 yards / 0% L / 36% R / 36% Short / 9% Long - More work needed

      1.89 Putts per hole.

Overall I have to say I'm ok.
Still have to fight the blowups and recover quicker..
Possibly fatigue set in..?? Who knows.

On the bright side, 1.89 putts/hole. I'm guessing the flat stick saved you out there a few times today.

Yeah putting was good but could be better. I had a 3 putt in there on my 8
Just need to get more good range birdie putts.

Trying to get better distance control on smaller pitch distances so working on that. I spent a few range rounds with just my wedges getting some pitch distances dialed in for all the variable distances I'd see..

As far as full iron shots I strike well but pushy/pully as well as some chunky monkeys still...

            Re: The OS Golfer's Thread!

Just finished going through my US Open photos. I've uploaded about 45 of them to my Dropbox. I have over 1,400 photos taken so I'll eventually upload them into an album on Photobucket or something.

I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but I think the pictures turned out really good! I took some of the best ones and put them on my Dropbox. Enjoy!

Edited the levels and saturation in Photoshop on the images below. The rest of the uploaded Dropbox images are just straight from the camera with no editing. The image below was from the Tuesday evening during Rory's Front 9 practice round. This shot was from his first of two tee shots he hit on hole 2. This shot went into the right rough.

This one was from hole 9, Rory's tee shot went into the bunker. Timed the picture perfectly. Again edited in photoshop.

After a little over two years without using a driver, three weeks ago I put a driver back in my bag. I switched from stiff to regular shaft. The hook is minimizing each round. Getting there. Scoring a little better. Just need to dial in my wedge game.

I have a hard time properly releasing the club through impact. I'm working on it, and when the timing is all lined up it's great, but it's by no means consistent. And of course, it brings the snap hook into play...

That was my issue. Mainly due to my hands always beat the club head to ball causing the push or push slice. I'd try and compensate (Before I knew what my issue was) and either hook or worse. It wasn't until I started filming that I realized my issue. Worked a lot on getting a release in time and not rushing hands through. Now my miss is a slight push (still in play) and I can live with that.

I just wish I could go through 1 round right now with no blowups.
I was pretty excited being just 3 over through 10...Then got kicked in the balls lol
Anyways I'm going to keep plugging away and will work on accuracy on approaches as that has to get better.

Exactly the same boat here - realized I had a pretty bad "chicken-wing" on video, and despite years of swing changes, that never went away. I thought it was a severe out-to-in swing plane (which was true), but the real underlying problem was total lack of proper release of the hands.

My misses are now slight pushes like you, although the bad snap hook does rear its ugly head once in a while and that's an automatic OB if it happens on a course. I'm having a hard time distinguishing (conceptually and physically) between "flipping" the hands and "releasing" the hands. Sort of a fine line, I think. But my golf ball really knows the difference...

Yep, here too. I mean, everything needs work in my game, but having approaches that a) hit the green, and b) leave a manageable/makeable putt are really where I lose all my strokes to par. I mean, my driving isn't great but it generally only gets me into unresolveable trouble once or twice a round. It's the approaches that kill me every hole.

It would be. St Andrews will be a real test for him, especially if the wind picks up. He primarily plays a draw and depending on the wind direction and pin placements he may have to hit more fades. We'll see what happens though. St Andrews greatest defense is the wind. The fairways are some of the widest out there and with little to no wind, St Andrews will be picked apart. But if the wind picks up and the R&A puts the pins in tough positions, players will be struggling to shoot even par. I'm hoping for strong winds, that to me is what makes the Open Championship, the Open Championship. Who ever can maneuver their ball around the course efficiently and is patient will win.

I've been thinking of buying tickets for next years PGA Championship. I'm eligible to purchase tickets August 27th. I really enjoyed the the US Open at Chambers Bay and I've just got the itch to see another major! Maybe in 5 years when St Andrews hosts again, I'll be able to see the Open Championship in person.

It's easy to get tickets for the PGA. Just went right onto their site and it's less than a month away. I'm sure if the slam is in play, that will change. It's only a 5-6 hour drive, and my uncle lives about 90 miles from the course for free lodging. It was a no-brainer.

The real trick will be getting my hands on Ryder Cup tickets. It's being played just outside of Minneapolis at Hazeltine next year.

I'm hearing that St. Andrews is soft and slow because of a ton of rain they've gotten recently. If that holds throughout the tournament, it will be interesting to see the winning scores. On TV anyway, it definitely looks greener than normal.

Was hitting some balls at the range yesterday and after some pretty horrible drives, I figured I just wasn't going to figure it out that day and decided to put the big stick back in the bag. Was putting on the head cover and noticed it went on kinda funny - took it back off and there was my driver head, hanging on for dear life to the shaft by what looked like a single shred of graphite. Darn. Guess I have to buy a new driver.

Last year I got new Callaway Razr X irons and loved them until very recently. I used to hit everything dead straight with my irons and now i can't hit the ball where I'm aiming. Everything is dead straight or a slice but pushed severely to the right. It's very discouraging I feel like I've never played golf before (Played since I was 8). Anyone have the same issue or know of a way to fix it? That's always my problem with playing too often is that I pick up loads of bad habits and turn my swing into something completely different.

I have a slice with my woods and drivers but I've already considered that a lost cause.

If I've learned nothing else in my many years of golfing (badly), it's that trying to diagnose someone else - especially sight unseen - is sort of a lost cause. My only bit of advice would be to video yourself swinging from the back and the side/front (if you haven't already). I feel like that is a reasonable starting point for diagnosis no matter what approach you take after that.

As for the new-found slice...the next person I meet that can keep their swing the same from day-to-day or week-to-week will be the first person I meet that can keep their swing the same from day-to-day or week-to-week.
