    Re: Xbox One

Yup, all the sharing stuff appears to be gone. So lame.

In addition to buying a disc from a retailer, you can also download games from Xbox Live on day of release. If you choose to download your games, you will be able to play them offline just like you do today. Xbox One games will be playable on any Xbox One console — there will be no regional restrictions.

These changes will impact some of the scenarios we previously announced for Xbox One. The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold. Also, similar to today, playing disc based games will require that the disc be in the tray.
Hope they're able to pull it off somehow anyways, or add it later. Disappointing.

      Page is live:

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

We appreciate your passion, support and willingness to challenge the assumptions of digital licensing and connectivity. While we believe that the majority of people will play games online and access the cloud for both games and entertainment, we will give consumers the choice of both physical and digital content. We have listened and we have heard loud and clear from your feedback that you want the best of both worlds.

Thank you again for your candid feedback. Our team remains committed to listening, taking feedback and delivering a great product for you later this year.

Not really a fan of the news. I pre-ordered the Xbox One Sunday being fine with the restrictions.

Microsoft should have stuck to their guns and dragged people into the future with them. People hate change and complained so much that Microsoft had no option.

That must have been an incredibly difficult statement for MS to make. But it's good that they did.

I think this is absolutely awesome because it is a win for consumers. They made their voice heard and caused one of the biggest corporations in the world to do a complete about face on major policies that they were dead set on implementing. This is a huge, huge deal.

Still going with PS4 first but now without a doubt I will be getting a One eventually. Very exciting news for gamers everywhere. Kudos to MS for realizing their mistakes (even if they wouldn't quite word it that way) and reversing policy.

                        Here's the thing.

What happens when the console gets handily outsold with those restrictions, as early reports indicated? One of two things.

A: Microsoft backs out of the console industry, which is bad for gamers everywhere.
B: They backtrack a year or two in, showing it's a bad idea and the next next-gen console won't have it.

If people don't want it, you can't necessarily drag them in kicking and screaming. DRM isn't the future, as a matter of fact the EFF is (and has been) pushing that DRM is grounds for antitrust.

One thing's for sure - this is going to cause a flood of XBOXOne preorders on Amazon just like what happened for PS4 during E3. Y'all might want to reserve one if there's any chance you think you might want one on launch day.

I know you hate them now, but for me, the discless sharing/play, etc. was all actually pretty damn awesome to me. While I was going with the PS4 to start, I still liked a lot of things they were trying to do. Hell, today's news of Steam game sharing is pretty great to me. If we could ever have a Steam environment on consoles, that company would definitely have my money. Microsoft wasn't there, but they were trying to go that direction. Problem is, they buried themselves in stupid policies on the way there (DRM). While the status quo is nice, it's just nowhere near as exciting to me.

I would love for them to say you could share digital game purchases at some point at least. But I doubt it now.
