That too lol. I like just about every aspect of the Xbox One over the PS4. I still enjoy the PS4 though.

I'd need to hear some compelling ways that it would make viewing easier if I am going to put up with the extra headaches of switching everything on all the time.

Having said that....I do stream a lot of movies from my NAS that are mkv files and I use Netflix a lot so there are components of the XBOX one experience that I might use but I just don't really understand how this all works together at this point.

Anyone have any good links or references? Thanks.
The HDMI goes through the Xbox, and the Xbox One has settings that'll enable you to say you have a receiver and have it automatically turn it on....

I don't have a receiver, so my cable just goes through Xbox and then to TV. That allows the Xbox to overlay over the TV, or do the snap with the TV in a smaller box. The Kinect has the IR blasting (or you can get something external I believe) so that allows the Xbox to send the cable box the channel numbers to change to and whatnot.

Agree 100% if you're into all the multi-media entertainment stuff and talking to your Xbox One.

Disagree 100% if you're only interested in playing games like I am. I will hopefully be buying an Xbox One for $280 before the year ends and I have no interest, desire or motivation to purchase Kinect. For me personally, that would be such a huge waste of money. Like I have said in the PlayStation 4 vs Xbox One topic, it's all about personal preference.

My preference is games, first and foremost. It's why I buy a gaming console. Currently, there's only one game I want to play for Xbox One which is Ryse: Son of Rome but Ori and the Blind Forest is coming soon with Quantum Break and Rise of the Tomb Raider being a year or so away.

Add in a game like Scalebound where im waiting to see actual gameplay and having both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is the best way to go. Well, second best way. First would be owning PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Wii U.

Is there any benefit allowing the xbox to turn other equipment on if I have a universal remote?

I don't allow my xbox to do anything and wondering if I'm missing out on something since the remote does everything at the moment.

Our is it a feature for those who don't have one?

I use it so I only turn one device on myself, the xbox. Otherwise I'd hit power on with the remote to turn tv and receiver on, then turn the xbox on (not sure if my remote can turn it on, but it would still take an additional two presses if so.)

So yeah no hidden benefits. Just convenience. If your remote can turn everything on with a single click then you arent missing much other than if you turn xbox on by voice you still need the remote for the other devices.

Did anyone try to watch a game last night with the NBA Game Time app? I tried watching a couple in-progress games and none of them joined the game in progress. I had to fast forward from when they began the feed to live action. I didn't see a choice to start from beginning or go to live or anything like that...just wondering if anyone else had the same experience or not.

I had the same issue, I didn't know you could fast forward to the game though. After that Mobil commercial, I only got the white match-up screen.

I used Right Trigger to FF through to get caught up...sucks that when I turned it on, the games I wanted to watch were late in the 4th and had to FF through 2+ hours to get to live action. The commercial they decided I needed to see every single time was NBA Live. Hopefully, they can get a fix for it b/c it makes switching between games a royal pain.

Hmmm....I'm glad you posted this. I was considering buying League Pass on the XB1 after having it online last year. Even though I have a PC hooked up to my television, I still would have preferred having it through my cable provider for ease of use. If they don't get this fixed I just might go through Time Warner.

If you buy League Pass from Time Warner (or any cable provider), you get broadband/mobile access for free. Plus, the digital (premium) only package this season is the same price as cable. I won't get into my setup too much, but I like having both the cable access and the broadband/mobile access...with them both being the same price, going the cable route, to me, is a no-brainer.

I just picked up one. It's a nice looking system.

Several Best Buys and a few gamestops had the bundle in my area.

There are at least 10-12 games I've bought for PS4 due to this one reason. And any time I have a choice of buying a game on one system or the other this is the reason I choose the PS4.

MS needs to wise up and get that feature in pronto.
sorry to visit an old subject - but at one point i thought it was stupid as well. Until when I got ps4 I signed up for the free month of their music service and tried playing in the background. It is much more enjoyable that you would think. It was nice setting up a playlist and letting it play over the sound of the game i was playing.

Now with Xbox one, it is a little annoying to have to have IE (for my music service) or media player snapped for DLNA/USB playback.

While I have no idea what is used to develop the dashboard, it is probably safe to assume they use a microsoft product. I have been a .NET developer for 8+ years now, and I understand there can be a lot involved to include a background player. However if they use something like WPF to design the layout of the dashboard, it would seem like they could simply add a button command to the snap center to "Hide" the snap window. It would set the visibility to collapsed so it would still be open/running, yet being collapsed would eliminate it from taking any window space.
