    Re: Xbox One

MS not making the scorpio 500 and you can take that to the bank

it will be 400 dollars. And it will be sold as premium product

MS future does not depend on Scorpio

MS wants the scorpio to be a bridge of console fans to PC fans

Games will be developed on the PC and UWP makes it easy for games to be played on the Scorpio with the same features and picture quality as PC

MS will take a loss and it will pay off in the end. Getting hammered by Sony was the best thing that happened to xbox fans

      Re: Xbox One

I don't think Scorpio is going to really do that much.

      1. PlayStation brad is much more powerful then Microsoft when it comes to video games. I think the fact ps3 still ended up with more sales then xbox 360 even though it cost 600 came out a year later and multiplatform games where worse for the first like 1-2 years.
      2. Sony got the year head start with PRO
      3. Price it sounds like Scorpio is going to cost a lot. I think we are looking at 500 and by the time it comes out PRO should be 350-300 so you are looking at 150-200 more for Scorpio then for PRO.
      4. Xbox has no game but that has always been true. Sony on the other hand got off to a slower start this gen then last gen when it comes to games but that is going to start to chance. Horizon comes out in late feb for ps4 and should be a system sale type of game and also at some point Spider-Man is going to come out and that is another game that should get people to buy a ps4.

          Re: Xbox One

Scorpio's success will depend on whether or not it's tied to Xbox One. I personally believe and hoping that Scorpio will be the start of the next generation for Microsoft. Microsoft should go all out with the console. I don't know a lot of technical stuff but the best CPU and GPU that they could possibly put in the console while allowing Scorpio to be fully backwards compatible with Xbox One should be what they do. I would increase the console to 8TF. 16GB RAM. 500GB SSD (would go with a 1TB SSD but SSD's are expensive so I would try to lessen the loss by going with the smaller 500GB SSD).

I would make sure the console fully supports 4K, HDR10, Dolby Vision, HDMI 2.0a or is it 2.1? Whatever the highest and most current HDMI port is available by mid-2017 is what I would go with.

Launch in November 2017 with Scorpio exclusive Crackdown 3. The ambition and destruction that I have read concerning Crackdown 3 seems to be on a far bigger scale than what Xbox One/Xbox One Slim would be able to handle and I seriously don't want to see Scorpio being held back by Xbox One/Slim just like I don't want to see PS4 PRO being held back by the base PS4.

That's the main problem with mid-gen consoles.....what's the point in making a stronger better faster console if it's going to be held back by the previous console? To me, that makes no sense and defeats the purpose of it to begin with.

The backwards compatibility would only be so when it's announced that Scorpio is their brand new console to start the next generation, it won't piss off that many people especially since backwards compatibility isn't a system seller. It's a great consumer friendly move but it doesn't sell consoles. If it did, PS4 wouldn't be going back on top this month in sales if that was important.

As great as backwards compatibility is, when I buy a new console, the last thing that I want to do is play the games from the previous generation console. I want new games, exclusives from all parties that give me the reason to buy the new console. I'm not a fan of cross-gen games because the new console is always held back by the previous gen consoles but I do understand it and why it's done.

Would simply call the console Xbox Scorpio with Crackdown 3 as being the main game to show off the console's power, specs and capabilities. Having the console being fully backwards compatible to where you can still get your disc based copy of Halo 5 and play it after inserting the disc, fully installing the game and downloading any patches. No emulation or anything. The game would be played as if it was being played off an Xbox One/Slim. Basically the same as PS2/PS games were able to be played on PS2 simply by inserting the game disc and playing.

Here's the whopper part of what I would do and yes, I know that they would be taking a massive loss in doing so but software and Xbox Live Gold subscriptions would make it all even out in the long run.

The whopper part would be the price.....and yes, I know it's not going to happen but I would do it.....$299.99.

Why $300 you ask? Simple, it's pretty much a given that Sony will lower the price of the PS4 Slim and PS4 PRO in a year from now and im guessing that price cut will either be $50-$100 depending on the price of Scorpio at launch. $300 completely undercuts Sony's undercut. LOL.

And one last thing, I would make sure that the Scorpio would last long enough to not just blow away PS4 PRO but to at the very least, be 100% even and identical to PS5. Basically, it would last eight or so years.

None of those things I bolded will happen....At 400 no matter what the Pro cost will sell like crazy because it will be twice as powerful as the PRO

It will not be close in comparison

While PRO is using gimmicks to get 4K the Scorpio is going to be a beast that does native 4K uncompromised

MS with the video at E3 about the Scorpio said Native 4K no comprises.

People will point to that phrase and MS needs to deliver or it will be over

                  1. Agree but in fairness, Sony supported PS3 longer than Microsoft supported Xbox 360 with software. The Last of Us was released in June 2013 and Gran Turismo 6 was released in December 2013.

                  2. Pro having a year head start won't mean as much if it's being held back by the base PS4 and if games are somehow and someway running worse on Pro than they are on the base PS4 (see TLOUR via Digital Foundry). I was satisfied with Titanfall 2 on PS4 Pro but it being connected to the base PS4 is a mistake in my opinion because like I said with Scorpio, what's the point in having this extra power and capabilities if it's being held back by the base PS4/Xbox One hardware?

                  3. Scorpio will be no more than $500 and considering that Xbox One launched at $500 and sold better than expected with Kinect bundled in, im pretty sure that at $500, Scorpio will sell simply because it will be worth $100 more than PS4 Pro and thus, that justifies the price difference. I'm predicting $400 though as that seems to be the sweet spot for consoles at launch (or lower obviously). Sony will decrease the price of Pro but it's said that at $400, they're making a small profit. Will a $50 price cut make Sony lose money?

                  4. It's NOT that Xbox One has no games. It's that none of the game appeal to YOU. For me, few appeal to me. But that's just the way it is for us. For majority of Xbox One owners/fans though, we're the minority. Microsoft will always have their big four - Halo, Gears, Forza Motorsport and Forza Horizon. I have no interest in Halo or Forza M/H series but damn, was Horizon 3 one hell of a racing game. Easily a 9/10 and im not even a racing fan.

Gears 4 is tied with a few others for my game of the year. I enjoyed it more than I did Uncharted 4 but in fairness, I never played the previous four games in the Gears franchise.

I have the argument of Microsoft exclusives vs Sony exclusives with my friend all the time. It's not that Microsoft doesn't have any exclusives, it's just that the majority don't appeal to me, him or others. Sony exclusives appeal to me a lot more than Microsoft's and that's for one main reason - majority of Microsoft exclusives are built and focused around online multi-player and im a single player gamer. Granted, they have single player campaigns but let's be honest, for the majority of gamers, it's the multi-player that appeals to them.

For me, single player focused games like Horizon, Days Gone, God of War, Detroit, etc. appeal to me a lot more. Thankfully for me, Sony normally concentrates on the single player story/campaign. Uncharted and TLOU have multi-player but clearly, the single player story, characters and campaign is the main focal point.

Once I finish Ori and ReCore, the exclusives are actually close for me - 6 to 5 in favor of Sony and that's only because I want to play Killzone since I never played a game from Guerrilla Games before and just want to see how it is while waiting for Horizon.

Both consoles have great games, good exclusives and good future lineups. In the end, it's about what games appeal to you, plain and simple.

Why's that? Scorpio being "Xbox One Scorpio" will only hurt it. Microsoft needs to separate itself from the Xbox One brand name and simply start anew. Scorpio allows them to do this.

Hasn't hurt it enough to outsell the PS4 the last four months. By your logic, when the PS3 was getting blown out of the water early on because of an obscenely high price, they should have released a new system right away and disassociated themselves from the PlayStation 3 name.

As it turned out it didn't hurt them enough to eventually outsell the 360. Xbox One is just fine as a name and just as Neo didn't end up being the final name, I doubt Scorpio will be either.

Because the XBox One name is doing just fine.

Because this is a mid-life console refresh that isn't anywhere close to the start of a new generation.

Because launching this at 300 is crazy.

I know a lot of what you post in relation to consoles is long winded and silly, but let's get those ideas out of the way quickly. This is just a basic mid-life refresh that incorporates less dated technology.

You can't compare this console cycle to the 360/PS3 cycle. When the 360 released, it was more advanced graphically than PC was. It didn't take the PC long to catch up/pass in terms of hardware power because when the PS3 launched a year later PC had surpassed already. That console generation still had a head start on PC.

This console cycle, the XBOne/PS4 were nothing more than low-mid range PC quality. Even now, the PS4 Pro is nothing more than mid-range PC and the Scorpio will also be in the mid-range PC.

For it to hit 4K (which is a silly benchmark at this point in time, consoles this cycle should just focus on making 1080p with all the bells and whistles enabled - it looks better than 4K with effects cut, which will have to happen with the power they are touting) they are gonna cut stuff out, or have 30fps be their target. That's fine for some games, but some games need 60fps to be a superb experience.

This is gonna be about equivalent to an RX480. It will get a couple more frames, since the consoles have less overhead than a PC but look at the numbers. An RX480 runs Rise of the Tomb Raider at ~23fps at 4K. Hitman gets a slightly better 30FPS.

Too many people have the wrong ideas about these consoles, but that's just marketing doing their jobs.
                        bad

If Scorpio gets 4k30 consistently I'd be surprised. I feel like they are making a mistake by focusing on 4k but that's just me. 1080p with ultra textures and 60 FPS is a better experience right now.

that is not going to cut it....MS and Sony are trying to lessen people going to PC

when PS4 and XB1 are suppose to generally be considered 1080p consoles you do not release another with 1080p again

How do you sell that to people

Hey here is another new console that is doing 1080p again but with better textures?

No what sells is new and improved tech like 4k even if they cut corners

COD and Halo yeah wow and what I said about brand name and price is true. There are some things that may hurt Sony though. With Scorpio coming out next holiday if Sony does not come out with a new system in till 2019 or later then they are going to give Scorpio a good sizes power advantage for at least 2 years and if they don't come out with ps5 in till at least 2019 they are going to give Scorpio time to cut there price on the system but if they come out with a ps4 in 2018 that would be only 2 years after the pro and that would most likely piss people off.
