Forgetting Sarah Marshall - still think its one of the best Apatow associated films, though I do have a big bias towards Jason Segal. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell were looking nice the whole time.

      A couple of remakes:

The Day the Earth Stood Still

I'm glad I didn't blind-buy this. Not that it was the worst thing, but it just was out of touch with what a casual crowd would like, even with special effects. Even as an avid fan for a sci-fi movie here and there, I felt it to be a bit off, like it tried to appeal a couple of different movie-viewing types while trying to stay somewhat classy with the original. I don't have any desire to see this again.

      Friday the 13th

I'm actually watching it right now, but I wanted an overall opinion on whether to keep going. I'm about 30 minutes in, so I saw those "first good 25 minutes" already. So I'm wondering... if that's the best of what I'm going to get, should I keep going? It was cool (actually, it was pretty cool), but if it declines from here and I'm taking up the main TV here (especially since it's the rated-R version, being OnDemand and all), should I proceed?

Inglorious Basterds - I've never read that much in my life. Seriously, like 70% or so of the movie is in a foreign language. Also, i've never been so happy to read in my life. Loved the movie. Even with all the insane liberties taken with history, I found it fascinating. Very happy I watched it.

I thought there was. It felt like I was always reading. Frankly, for being the "star", Pitt and the English speakers were barely in it. The bar scene with the actress was quite a long scene and I think the whole thing was in German. The whole dinner scene with Shosanna and Goebbles was in two different languages. Maybe my 70% estimate was a bit high, but there's a considerable amount of foreign language speaking in the movie.

And it's not like the foreign languages were a bad thing, quite the opposite in fact. I preferred that to the magical "all of a sudden everyone in Germany speaks English" approach that Valkyrie took.

Re: What movies have you seen recently? Part 1

Well, I didn't finish watching Friday the 13th, but I'm wide awake so I'll start doing it now. Anyway, here's what I saw tonight:

                Armored

Honestly, here was a movie that could have had so much going for it, and completely went the wrong way with it. Not to say that the movie itself was bad, but with a bad-*** concept like this, using armored vans to transfer millions of dollars, with Lawrence Fishburne and Amaury Norasco to boot, they could have gone more en route with something similar to the movie S.W.A.T. Not to say they would make it about S.W.A.T., but just the way that the movie plays out could have used a similar style of writing the story or using antagonists. Instead, it was pretty centralized in one location and the characters were only internally focused.

It was strange how much they used the beginning to build up depth and development, only for a very weak remaining part of the movie using almost none of that development to good use.

I guess it's hard to really explain what the problem of this movie was without spoiling anything, but I suppose I expected them to use the armored vans to more... potential, I suppose. On a plus side, the movie is only 88 minutes and feels like such. For this kind of focus, I'm glad it didn't draw out longer unless it enforced the creativity of a movie like Panic Room. But at a PG-13 rating and, again, minimal sequences of action or exhilaration, there was no need to lengthen the movie. The ending left a lot to be desired as well. Again, just very holey.

Just watched within the last 4 hours

                  Tropic Thunder

How did I not see this one earlier? Love every minute of it

                  Waiting

Now I've seen this before on TV, just never on DVD. It was alright. I Would never sit down to watch again, now if it's on TV while I'm flipping the channels I wouldn't change the channel.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

                    Okay, here we go...

                    Friday the 13th

Pretty good, actually. I don't get what everyone is saying about "the first 25 minutes are awesome and then it goes downhill." I mean I see what you mean by how it plays out as two different parts in a way, but Jason murders are Jason murders.

One thing that I really like is that this movie didn't have to play off as too scary, but instead it actually went a route of just plain being brutal. Jason is a huge, athletic monster, so instead of the killer being the slow-walking dunce that most of them seem to be, he straight up shows no mercy and will in fact sprint after people if he has to. I thought that was a cool way of giving the character more of a human element than giving them the "zombie" element.

Oh, and I know this was the rated R version, but holy tits! I will definitely give it to the crew for finding women with smoking bodies, because they were all... how did that one guy say... "stupendous!"

The reason I still give Zombie's Halloween a good grade, though, is it had a new kind of story to it. We saw Michael Myers as a kid and how he became Michael, in quite a different light that he in fact was very human, and even interacted with people at one point. There was also Samuel Loomis running around telling people to fear the man, yada yada. Although I wouldn't really say that people played the "dumb" card in Friday the 13th as we saw in Halloween. Again, mostly good things to say about it, but other than the fact that it did the slasher role some good, there wasn't anything necessarily "new" to it.

I will be looking forward to a Part 2. I don't know why people are always against remakes, especially when they're good (thanks, Platinum Dunes).

I just watched it last night and thought it was great, as well. My only knock was that it was a little predictable and was kind of like Dude Where's My Car.... Except instead of a car they were missing Doug.

Yep. The "searching" plot also reminded me of Nick and Norah's Infinite playlist and Harold and Kumar.

The Hangover was still a treat the first time through.

State of Play - Solid yet unspectacular. I was entertained, but it's not one of those movies that stays with you at all.

Been awhile since i've seen Rachel McAdams in anything. Maybe since Wedding Crashers. *drools a little*
